James - Is this a guitar you built? Sounds wonderful. I'm playing a Fishook, but always need another - GAS.

Oldpiper, This a store bought Guitar, it says SX on the top and cost less than $100 on Fleabay second or third hand. I don't know the age of the strings either.

My next Video due to upload in a day or two was recorded using the first Guitar I ever bought, its a 1965 Hofner Acoustic made in Bavaria, Germany.

Brings back wonderful memories listening to you play. My dad played a Dobro & the way you play Maidens Prayer is much like the way he played it. I inherited his old Ohau and am now taking lessons. I can only hope to get as good as you and dad. Do you know Hilo March? If so would you post it? God blessed you with a special talent...thank you for sharing and giving insperation to many. :-)

The first time I heard the Steel Guitar was on a Slim Whitman record in the 1950s from then on I was hooked. But 20 years would pass before I could buy one and start playing in about 1970. No teachers here so I had to teach myself. Lost heart in the late 80s and stopped playing for 15 years, then sombody got to hear I used to play and would not give up till I started again. I enjoy it more than ever building my own Instruments.

Sammy, Thank you for your very kind words. It don't have enough years left in this life to spend writing out Tabs. I'm playing in open G, follow the video to learn what I'm doing, its easy, nothing complicated, just develop your own style of playing and not waste time trying to copy. I'm completely self taught.

This Dobro is the cheapest of the cheap Rondo SX,, I bought it secondhand on Fleabay for less that 100.

To tell you the truth, I have not the faintest idea, I bought this guitar third hand on Fleabay and this is the strings that came with it, no idea how old they are either, I will just keep playing them until they get rusty.

You need to come to New Mexico and teach me a few tricks with a dobro,,, i sit and look at mine at times and then i pick it up and place it on my lap,,, well i do make some noise off and on,, nothing the way you and others do though,,, awesome job and keep sending them to me! Susan

Susan,  I have been to New Mexico, Along highway 10 to Casa Grande, then up to Flagstaf and the Grand Canyon. Right now with winter creeping in, New Mexico is the place to be.

I have been having some problems out of my sister back in Virginia,she has been trying to hack into my computer and I had to drop out of the forum for the time being until I can be sure she can't fet access to my ID. My dobro only cost me about $200.00 but later on I'm gonna put me a new resonator and spider in it.

There is such expression in the playing and the raw (un-plugged, yet, so full) sound mixed with the depth, complexity and yet transparency of your art work has just blown me away. You have much talent and I am humbly impressed.

For those interested, this is an entirely acoustic Guitar with no pickup or amplification. I recorded the song using my Zoom H2 Digital Recorder and no effects were added.

Ribob, It has a round neck and was being played as a Slide Guitar when I got it, so the first thing I had to do was make a Nut Riser.

Bernie, Thank you for your kind words, this is the first time I have played a Dobro Guitar, it is a Rondo SX, which I think is the cheapest guitar you can get. I bought it 3rd hand and have still to change the strings some time (well I am a Scotsman)
