Big Finish has a series of ongoing audio dramas with Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. I recomend anyone who hasn't heard of it checking it out, it gives you an impression of what it would have been like had he gotten to continue in the role.
Well it seems like a nerve has been hit with E101!
You work on the later shows or something?
As a fan are we not able to voice an opinion on the show? As for slating it, you seem to have done a good job of that your self regarding the 2005 to 2010 period!
I agree there were storyline mix ups, stuff about not seeing meeting your self in an alternative time line, but that rule has been broken a few times now on all incarnations of the doctor!
u know summa, u lot that comment on here need to get a life. Dr Who in general is amazing, its constantly changing, new story lines the lot. its brilliant get a grip, fuck off and enjoy the show instead of been sad wankers and slamming it for the sake of it
The episodes are listed on various sites including TvTropes and every episode of the classic series can be found on dailymotion, you can also purchase them on DVD, all complete with expansive special features. Unfortunately a lot of the 1st and 2nd doctors episodes are lost due to an old BBC policy of tape recycling and cannot be watched by anyone but a good few survive and some of the lost ones are recreated using the original audio and still images.
@E101ification just seen the TV movie it had some flaws but the eight doctor wasn't that bad (except for the half-human part) I would really like to see him in a multi doctor story on TV.
This theme was brilliantly compossed and sounds awsome. the best ever has to be Murray Glod's 10th DW theme but on the other hand he also did the that God Damn awful 11th theme for Matt Smith. The whole Matt Smith session of DW has been flawed with that theme and poor storylines and th general feel of the show.
The first time i heard the new theme it was game over by about the 8bar, in! Murray plase do something with the latest theme!!!!
@beemer1200s You know it really makes me laugh when so-called "fans" slam the current Matt Smith era for things like poor storylines and bad writing - I mean, were you really that blind to all those SAME flaws in the eccleston/tennant era? Seriously, go back and watch those series and actually PAY ATTENTION! It's atrocious! I really don't get how anyone can see the flaws in the 2010+ show but fail to see them in the 2005+.
The 2010+ maybe bad but it's a helluva lot better than it was...
@beemer1200s Oh, and the reason you don't like the "general feel" of the show is simply because it's different to Russel T Davies's era of the show that you're used to - theres actually nothing "wrong" with it, it's just different, and I for one am glad, as the "general feel" of the show from 2005 - 2009, for me, was some of the most excruciating, badly written cheese I've ever seen.
Change is a part of DW, if you don't like that aspect of the show, then you're not really a fan of the show
im just so happy to have Doctor Who in my life ive been a fan since 1972 and i LOVE IT all us fans owe a huge debt of thanks to the people who created it and act in it.
@einootspork - Yeah although the producer went around telling people the score/theme was done with an orchestra, it was actually all synthesised with the (at the time) latest equipment.
@4543563 meh, I disagree about the Matt Smith theme. It's a slightly different approach to a timeless theme, and the new little intro to it, is rather catchy imo.
This was my favorite Doctor for a looonnnngggg time. I loved the movie, even with its flaws. To me it was an admirable attempt to relaunch the franchise and I love it.

And if you're going to continue to act like a child about it, I can continue to talk down to you like one.
he had a poor script to work with and made it the best he could, his voice was amazing and the acting was just how the doctor should be in that classic gothic form.
Now this makes me want to use figures to build his own series, but the only suitable stuff I have is the Bronze Dalek and 8th Doctor. Everything else wouldn't go right. That's how inspiring this theme is.
@ seploud - are you going to credit the guy who actually did this remix or the site you pinched it from..? I'm assuming that you aren't Hardwire from the Whomix site...
They could always do an episode where Matt goes back in time and meets his old self (Paul) or he tells Amy about the war and it's Paul we flash back to. That would be great to see that.
from what iv gatherd from the storys the only explanation that fits is that in the final days of the war hell was literaly in reality gallifrey was a ball of death and destruction , with the timelords backed into a corner it left them with no option but to initiate the final sanction ! this would mean the timelords exist only as consciousness while reality itselfe is torn apart . thats when the doctor decided to put this weapon he had to the test .
As much as Doctor Who fans malign the '96 movie (as well they should, really), ironically Paul McGann is one of the most popular Doctors, since his adventures live on only in radio or book format.
@KevServo I think McGann is a fantastic Doctor. It's just a shame we didn't get any seasons after with him. Some of the audio stories would've made good TV episodes.
@KevServo I have to be fair to the 1996 movie - they were setting it for a United States audience, most of whom had never seen the show or knew only Tom Baker, so seeing McCoy was going to be confusing alone let alone a regeneration. That said... it was WAY too much too soon as far as too much information to give to audiences, instead of keeping things a mystery like they did with Eccleston. I actually thought the plot wasn't too bad considering, though Roberts? - yeah, not a good Master.
@PrimusPrimal1995 We certainly should! I for one was disappointed when Paul McGann did not get to be the Doctor for more than one movie where he did not get to play his outstanding character, so I think he definitely deserves another regeneration!
@ClassicalNautical Yeah, we should. I think Paul McGann should be brought back to the series for the series finale of series 6... MAYBE 7. I'm not sure yet. I've heard a rumour that in series 6 the Fourth Doctor is returning... But that's just wrong.
By the way, to all you 8th Doc fans who haven't yet tried the 8th Doctor audio adventures, find Storm Warning (or Blood of the Daleks) and begin your journey. There's an overwhelming amount of stories, but I've just reached Zagreus and I can't believe how epic the audio dramas are.
@MilesStauffe That's good advice, especialy if they get the very wierd but good story, Zagreus. All I'll say is...it's the stuff of Galifreyan legend. ; ) I got this for my (now) ex-husband, it creeped him out something cronic! : ))
8th could have been one of the best doctors!, well, he is,but from the audiodramas stories, even 6th is fantastic in the audiodramas, is not paul's fault or colin baker's fault...is the writer's fault!.
@seploud cool remix, and I agree judging just from the movie I think Paul was fantastic and would have possible been my fav doc, shame we didnt get to see more, I really think they should make a mini prequel series with him and end it with him regenerating into CE, that would also clear up a lot of things...
they had the opportunity to do something with Paul in End of Time, but instead the 8th doctor was only mentioned when the High Counsil of the Time Lords said to Rassilon that the 8th doctor was on the run with the weapon of mass destruction he used to end the time war. I would have wanted a voice over with Paul ending the time war and regenerating afterwards
maybe , we dont know who ended the time war, but it seems fitting for the 8th doctor to die on the war than on a ramdon adventure, but the 9th doctor had the soldier look. I dont now what to believe, there is some evidence that indicates that number 8th was the one who ended it, the 9th doctor looked his face on the mirror and noticed his ears, the 10th doctor said to Rose that when he met her for the first time, the person he was back then was born in the war ( 9th doctor).
There was a reference at the beginning of Rose that the 9th doctor had only just regenerated "Could have been worse, but look at the ears." (looking in a mirror.) i really think that the 8th doctor shoud be allowed to do more on screen. A time war movie or mini series would eb great, it should feature the 8th and 9th in about equal ratio.
@seploud born OF war nessicarily doesn't mean he fought in the war also in rose the 9th acts like hes never seen his face yet hinting that he may have just regenerated...
@seploud The 10th doctor revealed that his 8th life regenerated alone, into his 9th. This strongly suggests that he is the 8th doctor and he did end the time war.
@TheBambiniGiant I remember him doing that in The Forgotten but whether or not that's canon is open to interpretation. In any event, no disrespect, that seems fairly flimsey evidence all it would indicate is that he regenerated alone, Time War or no Time War there's no indication from 10's ancedote either way.
@LindseyHabibi If on the other hand they decide to embrace Forgotten's Canon then that's that. If they decide 8's demise was indeed due to the Time War then I disagree, we'll most likely never see it (barring fanfic) as there appears to be a "gentleman's agreement" that the Time War should remain as mysterious as possible.
@TheBambiniGiant Fair enough though baring th TV show canon is in the eye of each fan individual as the novels, audios, comics are at many times mutually contradictory. Regardless of the high quality of the rest Who stuff the TV show always will "out rank" every other continuity. So if a future writer choses ignore the comics and decides 8 was with someone when he bought the farm that's that
@TheBambiniGiant I wouldn' take that as read, Doctor Who is a TV show first and foremost which has and will continue to fairly constitentely ignore the comics, Audios, novels ect. Which is fair enough cos if writers ploughed through ALL the comics, novels audios ect to make sure they didn't contradict them, they'd never get any work done ;).
@TheBambiniGiant Oh you Whovian fundamentalist you! Though like I say to be fair, there have been Doctor Who comics running continousley in one form or another since the sixties, then there's the audio plays which now number in the hundreds the Doctor Who New Adventures novels of which there are about sixty, the Doctor Who missing adventure novels the 8th Doctor novels of which there are about eighty the past Doctor novels the new series novels even these contradict each other now and again.
@mrshushie cont- So even the biggest self respecting fanboy going can't be expected to plough through all of it much less a proffessional writer with deadlines to meet ;) so a lot of the time they've no choice but to ignore most if not all of the spin off media.
@mrshushie Obviously it's a huge universe, with loads of people adding yarns here and there. They are bound to slightly contradict, but they are all still official if they are published, and officially happen in the doctors lives. Regardless. Saying they contradict slightly is true in some minor, small senses, but irrelevant.
@TheBambiniGiant Ah but much of the *published* stuff contradict each other HUGELY. Let's take one of many examples, the fate of Liz Shaw in the novels she got killed off quite descisively, whereas on TV it's been stated she's alive and well. Which wins? The TV, as DW is a TV show first and what we see on screen "outranks" any and all spinoff media whoever excellent it may be (a lot of them are actuall better than the TV show!)
@mrshushie She could of faked her own death, or the character stating her to be alive and well could simply not of been told. Use some imagination you fake fan =(
@TheBambiniGiant Not really the death was conclusive (and gory) and since it took place in 1997 and she was stated as working for UNIT's Moonbase in 2010 by a UNIT officer there's no way they couldn't have known. Also "fake fan" LOL now now dearie there's no reason to be rude :D, discussions between people who agree and disagree as we disagree is what forums are for, if I upset you I make no apologies because I didn't do so by wrong doing, it's silly to fall out over a TV show so bye.
@mrshushie It seems your defiantly not a whovian then! It's more than a TV show, it's a way of life. As I said, many authors, many variations. You can easily piece together things if you use your brain. It's just you with your lack of imagination and understanding that is the problem here!
@TheBambiniGiant Okay okay I'll came back for that No I'm not a Whovian if that's the definition, I'm a just a Who fan. To make a TV show (however great) be it Doctor Who, Coronation Street or whatever "a way of life" is to waste your life. If you view all of published stuff from the sixties annuals new adventures as part of your personal "fanon" more power to you and fully entitled to that view. Not all fans do and they're just as entitled.
@TheBambiniGiant It is however fun to try as you say work your imagination around many of the gaping inconsistancies google Doctor who the complete adventures for some guys who agree with you. BUT IT'S ONLY FOR FUN, IT'S NOT A DUTY LIGHTEN UP KID! Anyway you're quite scary so I'll block you so as not to be tempted into coming back again and do a runner before you round up some other mad anoraks with pitchforks and torchs to burn this "heathen"!
@seploud Yep that's strong evidence but not proof, similiarly CE's inclusion in the Infostamp in The Next Doctor as well as Clive's Photos are strong evidence of it being nine in the war. For what it's worth I hope we never find out for sure (and we probably never will) as I find it fun speculating.

@seploud The noticing his ears bit, maybe he'd just had a hair cut the Nestene noticed him took control of the clippers and made an attempt on his life in the process giving him a rather more severe cut than he went in for. Or maybe he's just really vain and bonkers. The born in war thing, perhaps it was nine was simply a more happy go lucky kind of chap before hand and the intense Nine Rose first met was a result of PTSD.

Or maybe he's just really vain and bonkers. The born in war thing, perhaps it was nine was simply a more happy go lucky kind of chap before hand and the intense Nine Rose first met was a result of PTSD.
@seploud I can see where your coming from as something of an 8 fan myself, however, even in the unlikely event that it turns out that it was 9 in the war, take heart after all 5 died in a random adventure and it's widely considered to be the most glorious of all the regeneration tales.
@seploud Thats what i love about the Doc Who lore, so much of it is unknown and shrouded in mystery and misconception. Decades later and 29 seasons later, we still dont know his actual name or why he calls himself Doctor.
But as to the 8th - 9th, its always pointed strongly that the 8th Doctor died in the war and it was the 9th Doctor that burnt Gallafrey and sealed the Time Lock.
@seploud I don't know if it's clearer in the canon or not, but I believe the last act of the 8th Doctor was what completed The Last Great Time War, causing him to regenerate into the 9th Doctor. And so the 9th Doctor would have been born 'from the war', and one of the first things he would have been struck by was survivor's guilt - and the 'soldier' mentality.
@JonathanBones Or recently had a hair cut, or is mind boggingly vain :). For me the fresh regen theory just doesn't sit right, but if it does for other fair enough as we may never know.........
@Danmaanz It's not CE's doc in the Time War cuz in the first episode of Season 1 he looks at himself in the mirror and plays with his ears as though it's the first time he's seeing himself :-D
@seploud As Steven Moffat said himself. Making the time war into an episode would be the same as when George Lucas made the clone wars into a movie. Your imagination would always be better, best keep it that way.
something like" in this day, the final day of the time war, I know Im the only one who can end it, no matter who wins the outcome will be the same, both sides are blind with rage, insanity and hunger for power, there is no other way, the time war ends today."

from what iv gatherd from the storys the only explanation that fits is that in the final days of the war hell was literaly in reality gallifrey was a ball of death and destruction , with the timelords backed into a corner it left them with no option but to initiate the final sanction ! this would mean the timelords exist only as consciousness while reality itselfe is torn apart . thats when the doctor decided to put this weapon he had to the test .

As much as Doctor Who fans malign the '96 movie (as well they should, really), ironically Paul McGann is one of the most popular Doctors, since his adventures live on only in radio or book format.
KevServo 1 year ago
@KevServo I think McGann is a fantastic Doctor. It's just a shame we didn't get any seasons after with him. Some of the audio stories would've made good TV episodes.
This theme would've been perfect for it too.
TheArtisticMind 1 year ago
@KevServo I have to be fair to the 1996 movie - they were setting it for a United States audience, most of whom had never seen the show or knew only Tom Baker, so seeing McCoy was going to be confusing alone let alone a regeneration. That said... it was WAY too much too soon as far as too much information to give to audiences, instead of keeping things a mystery like they did with Eccleston. I actually thought the plot wasn't too bad considering, though Roberts? - yeah, not a good Master.

Am I the only one to think we should make a petition to bring Paul McGann back to Doctor Who?
I mean if we get enough signatures, perhaps we could bring him back into it.
PrimusPrimal1995 1 year ago
@PrimusPrimal1995 We certainly should! I for one was disappointed when Paul McGann did not get to be the Doctor for more than one movie where he did not get to play his outstanding character, so I think he definitely deserves another regeneration!
ClassicalNautical 1 year ago

8th could have been one of the best doctors!, well, he is,but from the audiodramas stories, even 6th is fantastic in the audiodramas, is not paul's fault or colin baker's fault...is the writer's fault!.
seploud 2 years ago 18
@seploud cool remix, and I agree judging just from the movie I think Paul was fantastic and would have possible been my fav doc, shame we didnt get to see more, I really think they should make a mini prequel series with him and end it with him regenerating into CE, that would also clear up a lot of things...
Danmaanz 2 years ago 10
they had the opportunity to do something with Paul in End of Time, but instead the 8th doctor was only mentioned when the High Counsil of the Time Lords said to Rassilon that the 8th doctor was on the run with the weapon of mass destruction he used to end the time war. I would have wanted a voice over with Paul ending the time war and regenerating afterwards
seploud 2 years ago 8
@seploud I don't remember him actually calling him the 8th doc, just saying they couldn't find him. and it could CE's doc in the time war...
Nice speech by the way, would fit nicely.
Danmaanz 2 years ago
maybe , we dont know who ended the time war, but it seems fitting for the 8th doctor to die on the war than on a ramdon adventure, but the 9th doctor had the soldier look. I dont now what to believe, there is some evidence that indicates that number 8th was the one who ended it, the 9th doctor looked his face on the mirror and noticed his ears, the 10th doctor said to Rose that when he met her for the first time, the person he was back then was born in the war ( 9th doctor).
seploud 2 years ago 3
There was a reference at the beginning of Rose that the 9th doctor had only just regenerated "Could have been worse, but look at the ears." (looking in a mirror.) i really think that the 8th doctor shoud be allowed to do more on screen. A time war movie or mini series would eb great, it should feature the 8th and 9th in about equal ratio.
jamiegoddard4 2 years ago
@seploud born OF war nessicarily doesn't mean he fought in the war also in rose the 9th acts like hes never seen his face yet hinting that he may have just regenerated...
Caboose11 1 year ago
@seploud I ended the time War!!!
Alexoneil 1 year ago
@seploud The 10th doctor revealed that his 8th life regenerated alone, into his 9th. This strongly suggests that he is the 8th doctor and he did end the time war.
TheBambiniGiant 1 year ago

LindseyHabibi 1 year ago

@TheBambiniGiant Fair enough though baring th TV show canon is in the eye of each fan individual as the novels, audios, comics are at many times mutually contradictory. Regardless of the high quality of the rest Who stuff the TV show always will "out rank" every other continuity. So if a future writer choses ignore the comics and decides 8 was with someone when he bought the farm that's that
LindseyHabibi 1 year ago
@TheBambiniGiant I wouldn' take that as read, Doctor Who is a TV show first and foremost which has and will continue to fairly constitentely ignore the comics, Audios, novels ect. Which is fair enough cos if writers ploughed through ALL the comics, novels audios ect to make sure they didn't contradict them, they'd never get any work done ;).
mrshushie 1 year ago
@mrshushie ....Then they don't deserve....TO LIVE.......*scary face*
TheBambiniGiant 1 year ago
@TheBambiniGiant Oh you Whovian fundamentalist you! Though like I say to be fair, there have been Doctor Who comics running continousley in one form or another since the sixties, then there's the audio plays which now number in the hundreds the Doctor Who New Adventures novels of which there are about sixty, the Doctor Who missing adventure novels the 8th Doctor novels of which there are about eighty the past Doctor novels the new series novels even these contradict each other now and again.
mrshushie 1 year ago
@mrshushie cont- So even the biggest self respecting fanboy going can't be expected to plough through all of it much less a proffessional writer with deadlines to meet ;) so a lot of the time they've no choice but to ignore most if not all of the spin off media.
mrshushie 1 year ago
@mrshushie Obviously it's a huge universe, with loads of people adding yarns here and there. They are bound to slightly contradict, but they are all still official if they are published, and officially happen in the doctors lives. Regardless. Saying they contradict slightly is true in some minor, small senses, but irrelevant.
TheBambiniGiant 1 year ago
@TheBambiniGiant Ah but much of the *published* stuff contradict each other HUGELY. Let's take one of many examples, the fate of Liz Shaw in the novels she got killed off quite descisively, whereas on TV it's been stated she's alive and well. Which wins? The TV, as DW is a TV show first and what we see on screen "outranks" any and all spinoff media whoever excellent it may be (a lot of them are actuall better than the TV show!)
mrshushie 1 year ago
@mrshushie She could of faked her own death, or the character stating her to be alive and well could simply not of been told. Use some imagination you fake fan =(
TheBambiniGiant 1 year ago
@TheBambiniGiant Not really the death was conclusive (and gory) and since it took place in 1997 and she was stated as working for UNIT's Moonbase in 2010 by a UNIT officer there's no way they couldn't have known. Also "fake fan" LOL now now dearie there's no reason to be rude :D, discussions between people who agree and disagree as we disagree is what forums are for, if I upset you I make no apologies because I didn't do so by wrong doing, it's silly to fall out over a TV show so bye.
mrshushie 1 year ago
@mrshushie It seems your defiantly not a whovian then! It's more than a TV show, it's a way of life. As I said, many authors, many variations. You can easily piece together things if you use your brain. It's just you with your lack of imagination and understanding that is the problem here!
TheBambiniGiant 1 year ago
@TheBambiniGiant Okay okay I'll came back for that No I'm not a Whovian if that's the definition, I'm a just a Who fan. To make a TV show (however great) be it Doctor Who, Coronation Street or whatever "a way of life" is to waste your life. If you view all of published stuff from the sixties annuals new adventures as part of your personal "fanon" more power to you and fully entitled to that view. Not all fans do and they're just as entitled.
mrshushie 1 year ago
@TheBambiniGiant It is however fun to try as you say work your imagination around many of the gaping inconsistancies google Doctor who the complete adventures for some guys who agree with you. BUT IT'S ONLY FOR FUN, IT'S NOT A DUTY LIGHTEN UP KID! Anyway you're quite scary so I'll block you so as not to be tempted into coming back again and do a runner before you round up some other mad anoraks with pitchforks and torchs to burn this "heathen"!

@seploud I can see where your coming from as something of an 8 fan myself, however, even in the unlikely event that it turns out that it was 9 in the war, take heart after all 5 died in a random adventure and it's widely considered to be the most glorious of all the regeneration tales.
Hecatean 1 year ago
@seploud Thats what i love about the Doc Who lore, so much of it is unknown and shrouded in mystery and misconception. Decades later and 29 seasons later, we still dont know his actual name or why he calls himself Doctor.
But as to the 8th - 9th, its always pointed strongly that the 8th Doctor died in the war and it was the 9th Doctor that burnt Gallafrey and sealed the Time Lock.
NewGunBunny 1 year ago
@seploud I don't know if it's clearer in the canon or not, but I believe the last act of the 8th Doctor was what completed The Last Great Time War, causing him to regenerate into the 9th Doctor. And so the 9th Doctor would have been born 'from the war', and one of the first things he would have been struck by was survivor's guilt - and the 'soldier' mentality.

@Danmaanz The way he looked at his big northern mug in the mirror in Rose implied it was new to him. So he'd have recently regenerated.

CocoOPNY 10 months ago
@seploud As Steven Moffat said himself. Making the time war into an episode would be the same as when George Lucas made the clone wars into a movie. Your imagination would always be better, best keep it that way.

something like" in this day, the final day of the time war, I know Im the only one who can end it, no matter who wins the outcome will be the same, both sides are blind with rage, insanity and hunger for power, there is no other way, the time war ends today."
