Lightning p-38 was american. the lightning jet fighter is british, powered by two rolls royce avons stacked on top of each other and added after burners
Oh and by the way. I love the sound of the Hunter. I remember this one flying over my house in Mosgiel very low and very fast on its way back to Dunedin airport after returning from Wanaka. Im told its takes little over 7 minutes from Wanaka to Dunedin. Pretty awesome.
At least you agree with me thanks mate, I really know that the French make good fighter planes , and now that you said I'll just add white flags to that list too, thank you very much
No it was an American design and it never go beyond Mach 2 it had lots of problem on its gyro only the Pork eating Saudis and Kuwaits have it and it never saw combat operation.
@vnck25 it never saw combat operation?? So you obviously did your researched and noticed that it took part in the Suez Crisis, Six-Day War, Aden Radfan campaign, Brunei Revolt and Borneo Confrontation, 1973 Chilean coup d'état, Somalia Civil War in the late 1980's, in Rhodesia now Zimbabwe, Lebanese Civil War and Indo-Pakistan Wars
Next time you make a stupid post do your research first!!
The famous blue note is caused by air flow over the gun ports, much like blowing across a bottle top. Not by the engine! This is only heard from single seat versions with four gun ports, but not the Swiss versions as they fitted baffle plates to the gun barrels, Why? The trick is to open her up to about 560 knots and then close the throttle on the pass, this way you only get the blue note not the engine noise. There is no noise made by any man made machine that comes close.
I knew it was caused by air flow over the gun ports but wondered why not all hunters do it but now i know thanx ,i remember hearing the one with swiss markings I think it was? do it at a small airfield in nottinghamshire amazing! didnt have a vid cam at the time though:(
the first thing helen clark did when gaining power was axe our strike wing, not really that surprising since she used to spit on our troops coming back from vietnam, our navy is now just a coastgaurd
As a former Hunter driver I always get a moist eye when hearing the "Blue note". Funny thing, it never sounded quite so good from the inside with a helmet on!
Also a TSR2 at Duxford, believe the rader went onto the Vulcan mk2;as for getting rid of the TSR2, think we can thank Dennis Healy with him devalueing the pound for that. The Hunter has always been my favourite, first flew it with 208SQN. As for the Tornado, Corgi toys could do better,it appears to be the same with the Typoon, how many years behind is that aircraft?Look forward to seeing the F35.
TSR 2 was cancelled because Commisar Harold Wilson,on one of his regular visits to Moscow to be given his orders, was told to get rid of it because it bothered The USSR!
Thanks for your response-I think we agree it was an amazing Aircraft-I had to do a number of Hours on Her,trained on Gnats,She was amazing! The point I was trying to make was that GB had a Winner but because, and just look at what is happening to THE MILITARY today,Our 'Leaders' do not take these Projects any further.
A10-need I say more-Still in use and more reliable in SUPPORTING OUR Troops in Wars than anything We have-Tornado is a bag of tits and has been since Day 1.
I agree and bow to your experience in such aircraft. Hunter was a winner but could have been developed to somthing better. But as you say, the establishment wrecked any chance. Have you seen a book 'project cancelled' by Derek Wood (ISBN 1-85488-026-8)? This gives the history of British aircraft projects which were scrapped or given to the opposition. The FD1 which became the Mirage III, and of course the TRS2, cancelled because it was gonna wipe the floor with the F111.
Lebanon, its still on the front line as a strike aircraft and is currently flying operational attack missions against guerilla forces, also the RAF still have 2 on charge, ZZ190 and ZZ191, both are mk.58's
love that sound so cooooool

Thsese cheap British planes obliterated during the Arab Isralie war by the Isralie French Mirages
French products are better than British products

you're right there fella, the french make excellent quality white flags !

True, but if they had been facing French fighters of an equivalent era, i.e. the Dassault Ouragan or Mystere, it would have been the opposite result!
sketchmeister 2 years ago
Ha Ha Ha those Jews arent nuts to do something like that.
The fact of the matter is that at the end of the day, the French products were the winners :)
vnck25 2 years ago
If so, why are you here, watching this video & taking time to comment & justify your point?
Jaliya48 2 years ago
Because its a point worth justifying lol
vnck25 2 years ago
RIGHT. So why don't you watch a Mirage video clip & comment there?
Jaliya48 2 years ago
Why I have done so many times!
vnck25 2 years ago
whatever, people who watch this appreciate the aircraft, not to start bickering with the likes of you.
Jaliya48 2 years ago
Its your way of looking at it.
I never squabbled, I just made my point.
It seems like you are the one who what to do that!
vnck25 2 years ago
What do the French know about warfare? They got annihilated by the German forces in World war two.
Even if Mirages shot down Hunters its not really a fair comparison. Hunter first flew in 1951 Mirage in 1956.
Lets compare the Mirage to something of its era, say a British Electric Lightning. The Lightning was far superior.
British products are far better than French!

Electric Lightning was an american thing US gave it to Britain just to make the Queen happy
vnck25 2 years ago
Rubbish. The lightning was all british. In fact the only all british
mach 2 capable fighter.

It doesnt help at all if you can wire me about $ 1200 that would help!
vnck25 2 years ago
"wire" is not a verb. And I think it would take considerably more money than that to employ a doctor competent enough to sort out your problems.
HTH! HAND!

its funny how some ppl think like that !

@vnck25
It was never an american design because we shared the designs with the Americans so they could make a break through with the swept-wing Bell X-2

I understand that The RNZAF,as such,no longer exists other than Transport and Helos. What happened to The Hunters and A4's?
tambarum 4 years ago
RNZAF never operated Hunters, the aircraft in this video is an ex-Singaporean example.
All remaining A-4K's were retired in 2001
