in 2012 You cant listen a concert without stupid morron who talk, who dont respect the singer and the audience. It's sad. It's this fucking world but those genius like TY are still there in order to bring us some hope.
I loved this song from 'In Rainbows' probably my fave tbh but if I was a Director and my film wasn't shite this would be going in!! Was blown away when I watched Confessions. JP ok.
It actually makes me feel a little better as a performer.... Just knowing that even Thom Yorke sometimes must feel like he's on an island all by himself singing for the peanut gallery. The fact that it's not a Radiohead show, and is a benefit concert makes me think that some people don't know who the #### he is or why they should care.
Sort of like every time I play a show. Unless you pander to their easy-listening tastes, you are not going to impress the average crowd.
i cant beleive, people are there in the audionce , talking and not watching and giving a shit, the most amazing artist is doing one of his most amazing songs!!, whta planet are you on peeps!!!!
Good ear! It was first worked on by the band during the OK Computer sessions in 1996 (and even rehearsed during soundchecks in 1997), but they didn't like the results and it was shelved for years.
You guys are stupid. If you've had a few pints you chat with your best friends, you know to make the most of the epic experience. Shows are long and people love to check each others reactions to know how to react accordingly/appropriately. You stand up and you go into a private room to relieve your bladder.
It's not YOU but its everyone on youtube's commenting boards who always react the same way whenever a treasured preformer is combatting the next table over from whoevers rec. Relax.
What's truly sad is that any of us (those of us commenting on how completely disgusted we are with the almost blasphemous chattering audience) would've given a limb to have been in this intimate setting and seen this... yet the people who were lucky enough to be there thought talking was more important. I think people should have a damn mute button :(
you have to feel sorry for thom here- he must know hes genius and the people just ignore it. - or maybe hes glad there doing their own thing because hes content doing his
FUCK everyone in that audience that is chatting during this performance , if i was there i would have went to jail for mass murder of an ungrateful fucking audience ..Disrespecting the greatest , must talented performer ever known to man , wdf is wrong with people ,.
I would say that there is constant chatter during the entire performance, it's annoying enough on YouTube, 10x as annoying when you are there...same F'n thing happened to us at Aaron Lewis acoustical tour at the Sugarmill in NoLa, it was St. Patricks Day (which didn't help) & the crowd would not shut the f/up...my gf & I do not drink, so it was heartbreaking...in my opinion it's the alcohol that instigates this...peeps think they're in a nightclub w/a dj spinning instead of a live performance..
Excuse me but i seem to be oblivious to what the audience is doing that is pissing every1 off, i guess im just lost in the beautiful music that Thom is playing, can som1 tell me what is going on?
@xtheparanoidandroid It's the relatively quiet murmer of noise you hear from the audience that is what i think everyone is talking about. At a gig it is obviously worse, and i agree it is annoying. It's on par with the person in front, beside, or behind you talking throughout while you are at the cinema watching a movie.
If I was there listening to this, i couldn't care less who it was, i would listen to it. It's such a nice song! I hate those people for seeing this and not giving a shit...
I don't know how Thom Yorke does it. His voice is the most unique instrument I've heard in my life, it's like a tractor beam of awesome-ness. But here I go again having a man crush on Thom Yorke.
There was another version of the same performance, filmed from another angle but closer from Thom .. the sound and image quality was way better. Unfortunately the user have closed his Youtube account , anybody knows were I could find that other version ?
My god. I have never heard anything that good before. I have to go out and buy all of his stuff now. I haven't got a frickin' dime, spent my last 2 dollars on guitar string should have seen the teller's face when I withdrew 2.39 haha that was actually fun, but now I am going to have go get some money just for this guy He is BEYOND
i think the crowd noise almost adds to atmosphere and meaning of the song. it's about many things I'm sure but one of them for me is the fear of isolation, and the fear of not being able to sustain your love for someone
I like your comments. This song make me think of addiction. (I can't face the evening straight). The person is getting sober from ?heroin?. Sobriety is TOO BRIGHT TOO POWERFUL. The hospital is where the person needs to go to kick the drug. The narrator wishes their lover was enough to offer the same escape as the drug, but their love isn't enough and it is time to go kick the horse.
This is what i think when I hear the song and it is one of my faves.
@irishbear76 definitely buddy, I have not personally gone through that but several of my absolute best friends in the world have, makes perfect sense, great analysis.
Thanks for the response. I have also thought maybe mental illness and the hospital takes on a different connotation. It is my understanding young Mr. Yorke was a psychiatric attendant.
I don't make comments but I love this it made me cry when I first heard it or 20th time, its just transcendant (spelled wrong probably). Why don't they do a tour really stripped, just an acoustic guitar, and it can be plugged in electrically and no tech devices and have piano, whatever else even if its a damn bango they would make it work...they are one true music assemble that are not over hyped or overated. and one step ahead. But can they please make one album in vain/spirit of the bends?
terrible idea on the unplugged thing, and no, they're not going to make another bends. haha i like your passion for the band and the song though. it's a gem. radiohead should rule the world.
This is one of my favourites, this song made me want to cry when I first heard it. Radiohead is one of the only bands whose music has brought me to tears.
I WANT TO FUCKING DIEEEE!!!!! damnit! Radiohead rules meeeee! i think i know them one second and then the next they slap my face and tell me i dont know shit!!!!! oh god! i am not worthy of your awesomness Thom!!!!!
very nice. (I've always thought that most of Radiohead's stuff starts out with Thom and his acoustic. the rest thom and a keyboard.) I love the sound when he changes modes (the Dmajor-sus4 etc at the end), a typical RH move.
You're right, the delivery gives the music its feel. But I guess I prefer Radioheads later sound as I prefer Beatles later sound. But overall, it is all amazing.
yeah OK Computer is one of their best but I mean after OK Computer they went into dimensions no one has ever traveled before and... I think that is when they became the best band they had' ever been.
yaaa...i was wondering the same. in fact, there's a video in which thom talks to the audience about that...he says sth like :''if u wanna have a chat, fuck off outside, right?...'course you won't get back''
Awesome, when you hate what people think or type you can call them a troll and then ban them from thinking. Even Youtube has Thought Police. Good Ol' Hate is alive and well in CyberSpace as well.
i have to say, the fact they may not be 'a radiohead audience' seems insignificant. can they not hear what is being played right in front of them? are they not fans of music? if i hadn't a clue who was on stage, and i was witness to this performance, i think i'd shut the fuck up (or just sit back) and listen.
This was taken at the Trade justice movement meeting / union in 2005. Its not a radiohead audience, so people are talking as half of them will probably not be a fan of Thom and Radiohead!!! Even thou i am!!! Love this version!
the opportunity to chat with friends happens all the time. the opportunity to listen to thom yorke playing new songs in a live and intimate acoustic show is about as common as getting struck by a bolt of lightening. After reading some of the comments here, I feel rather embarassed to be such an avid Radiohead fan. (ie, killing audience members, worshipping Thom as the almighty, etc)
If I were Thom or any of the other guys, I'd be downright scared.
Hey, cannabisabuser! The problem is that those people can't aprreciate, how big talent he is.. Emotionless, hollow people, in a wrong place at the wrong time. Yuck.
i agree, only pure retarded losers with no taste or any tiny speck of respect to great music would talk while Thom Yorke plays! it is even a VIGIL ! i want to work for Thom, snipe people off when they start talking!

Thom Yorke. . .

After reading some of the comments here, I feel rather embarassed to be such an avid Radiohead fan. (ie, killing audience members, worshipping Thom as the almighty, etc)
If I were Thom or any of the other guys, I'd be downright scared.

is this even possible? He's not human. Obviously those people don't know whose presence they're in.

Hey, cannabisabuser! The problem is that those people can't aprreciate, how big talent he is.. Emotionless, hollow people, in a wrong place at the wrong time. Yuck.

the song is about drug abuse.
there are two sides to the conversation
the drugs are personified and are talking to him when he says " if you take me there you'll get relief"

Thom himself has said that it's a completely non-sensical song
saladlegs 3 years ago
well, that doesn't mean that it is non-sensical in fact ;)
And yes, it's a shame to be talking while god is singing

I want to get relief!
I wonder if hes ever thought of suicide.
