You may not agree but thats your opinion and ok. Agreed yes they may be bigger and far more powerful. But I'm happy where I'm at. 3x Natural Olympia and #x Natural Universe Champion so I must be doing something right at the ripe old age of 42. Did i say 42 sorry 41. lol I dont believe any of these guys competed in there 40's. Caue there not assisted anymore.
@xcelfitness At least you acknowledge the folly of your complaint against those who move heavier weights than you do a shorter distance. Just because someone doesn't have the best genes where some fickle panel of judges decides at any one moment what looks better compared to someone else doesn't mean that muscles act or behave any differently for anyone else. All muscles are the same when it comes to lifting heavy weights. Muscles don't have brains - don't know how far you moved it.
Also everyone you mentioned were assisted!!! Now when you talk about the so called ARC. Remember your not lifting for strength. Your lifting to work the muscle. What part of the muscle? hmmmm wonder. If you watch every video it will show you I use the incline bar and still go through a complete range of motion. Now how many times have you been to the gym and seen people bench and only come down half way. But when they have to come down all the way they cant push it back up. hmmm
@xcelfitness Well, yeah you go all the way down, but only because you work with pretty light weights. I have no problem doing full-range bench of any kind with an actual force of @ 225 pounds. If you would not LIMIT YOURSELF to your weakest part of your range in the bench then you could subject your muscles to a much greater overload working with much heavier weights and bang out more reps and achieve a much higher rate of work and have bigger more impressive muscles.
@xcelfitness By the way, what the hell did you mean by this?
"Remember your not lifting for strength. Your lifting to work the muscle."
What's the difference!? A heavier weight or greater resistance works the muscle more than a lighter weight does. You have to acknowledge that, otherwise the word "strength" doesn't mean strength and the word "working" doesn't mean working. Are you really expecting me and others to redefine terms?
Going from 315X10 to 405X10 is more "working" yes?
@obama. lol. Obvious your really in a world of your own. Mike mentzer has always talked about going through a full range of motion never half repping becasue it increases flexbility. Lou Ferrigno? cmon man even Arnold talks about going through a full range of motion. oo thats right Lou never beat Arnold. All the others are powerlifters. When it comes to bodybuilding and powerlifting you have two different things. Are you really serious.
@xcelfitness Bullshit! A "full-range" bench press DOES NOT increase flexibility. Neither does a "full-range" squat or leg press. Those are piss poor ways to increase flexibility.
Mike Mentzer promoted heavy partials. I can e-mail his words if you like.
Mike told John Little:
"We would overload the bar for the Preacher curls from our usual 150 pounds for full-range reps to 220 pounds for partial reps."
That and more from Mentzer in Power Factor Training - just search Google Books
@xcelfitness Just found a quote from Dorian Yates acknowledging his use of partial reps.
"Keeping that in mind, now when I train my calves , I always use a half or partial rep — and my calves have grown!
--Dorian Yates | | the most massive and greatest Mr Olympia of all time (and a very valid quote from a drug user since you claimed Arnold Schwarzenegger as a legitimate "bodybuilder" source to quote)

I wanna point out one more thing which is obvious in this video. You start off using this incline bench machine that Hammer Strength makes, right? I noticed you are pressing it in an ARC where the force you need to press it is LESS at the beginning and as it arcs upwards the force needed to press that weight INCREASES in your strongest range or in your strongest 1/2 of the bench! So, if you're really serious about whining about people that do strong-range reps, maybe give up ARCED movements ;)
Using a full range of motion has nothing to do with the size of a muscle. If it did, then the biggest and most powerful guys out there would be doing yoga stretching and contortionist exercises lol
As far as big guys who use 1/4 reps goes, check out legends Paul Anderson, Steve Grimek, Bill Kazmaier, the Mentzer brothers, Lou Ferrigno, every strongman competing, etc., etc. all who are far bigger and more powerful than you are. They may not work at your shitty gym, but they're out there.
