i was only 11 when she died, so my only memories are watching tv at odd hours here in america due to the time difference...
but i WAS in London when the fountain for her was dedicated, and even then - 7 years later!!!!!!! - we had to wait hours to ensure a place along the metal barriers. the love for Diana, it seems, has not lessened over time.
I was here at the time. I walked amongst the throng of silent people looking & crying. The lasting memory? It was the silence - even the birds. The scent of flowers - both fresh and wilted - was filling the air.I took a film in absolute silence - everyone was in shock. I remember driving my Boss to meet his Son one evening. He could not understand why it took 3 hours to do a mile? People were everywhere! You could not move a few inches.I'm glad I was there. It will remain with me forever.
I was working in London this week. I have never heard London so silent. You could hear the birds - nothing else. The usual traffic din has stopped. The smell of thousands of flowers - both fresh and dead - still stirs vivid memories of the tragic event in our lives.
why is the motorcade so small, here in the US, whenever we have an official funeral, there are always so many vehicles in the procession, here its just, outriders, hearse and escorts, limo and police
Good question. I suppose it's just because we'd already had her coffin paraded through London on a horse drawn gun carriage for two hours before the ceremony. This time, the hearse had to complete a 77 mile journey.
yea, true but here in the US, if they had to make a trip like that, there would be several vehicles in the motorcade including US Secret Service and some military vehicles in addition the hearse and cars carrying the family and official party/ They actually did something like that for General Douglas MacArthur when he passed away in 1964, the body was driven from Washington DC to New York for the first part of his state funeral
Well the family did make it to Althorp aboard the Royal Train. You see a fleet of about six Rolls Royces taking them from Long Buckby Station in later videos.
I couldn't tell you. Maybe another viewer may have the information. I thought to begin with it may have been Prince Philip but he didn't go to Althorp.
This was different Sunsnare... Since she was not officially a member of the royal family it was kind of a strange mingling of state funeral and personal memorial.
My mum was a great fan of Princess Diana n I remember watching d live telecast on tv when I was just 10yrs old.
I do not mean to sound cliche, but Princess Diana has touched many people thru her humanitarian works n her great humility, nt jus in the United Kingdom, but in other parts of d world too. I'm from Singapore, n I'm sure people from my surrounding countries such as Cambodia can testify to that.
thank you for posting the whole thing...i was to young to be able to stay awake on the actual day and with the 10th anniversary coming up i really appreciate being able to see the whole thing..
Those flowers coming to rest on the hearse was one of the saddest and most beautiful things I've ever seen.

A little slip from David Dimbleby there - the M6 was the first motorway.
