Phone has a locked bootloader! Which means you'll be stuck with a slow device that crashes regularly.

Motorola wont unlock, because they believe people who buy this phone is stupid! Their own words... not mine...

I replaced my Milestone with a HTC Desire, never buying Motorola again. Using my Milestone as an expensive alarm clock/paperweight now. Only thing it's good for.

@LuxuriousLuxembourg . We try to avoid getting into specific comparisons, but this phone with its full qwerty keyboard and email functionality, fast web and 3.7 inch widescreen, plus facebook and youtube apps built in would very much meet your needs.

Excellent hardware, substandard software (locked software, like apple iphone, no customizing or self support possible), appalling local customer support, non-existing online customer support. Avoid at all costs. Don't ever think about it if you are at Latam, they act as if they didn't release a phone there.

Thanks for purchasing DROID, we hope you enjoy it. DROID software was finalised by Google, whereas MILESTONE added some Motorola touches including multi-touch.

apple doesnt allow multitouch in USA, only for the sucky iphone and ipod touch,,, in the EU apple cant block the multitoch to other companies... i want to explain to you better but my english is very poor, ... just change your rom to the millestone one, is very easy just google it

Have to say, if I weren't still on the contract from my G1, I'd snap up a Milestone. But... based on what I know about the device and on Verizon's ad campaign for it. This ad is kinda wishy-washy - sorry. Give us something exciting like the Droid Does stuff. Something that makes you sit up and take notice.

Some key things which I think made this happen:

+ The "Droid" name is catchy. Along with the associated robotic "Droooid" speech

+ The red robotic eye reminds me of HAL2000. An iconic image

+ Good hardware + Android 2.0

Yes, same thing. The UK name had to be changed because Verison in the US maintain the copyright for "droid"

Shame, because DROID is a MUCH better name

Essentially yes...there are some subtle differences: Google turn by turn navigation is not currently available outside of the US, so on Milestone there is a MOTONAV solution; Milestone has pinch and zoom options; Droid has 16gig onboard vs 8gig on Milestone.... but essentially the same great product....

Beautiful presentation. Like I said earlier in some forum that Motorola needs to work on the design side a bit to their new smaching hits. Everything else is just mouth-watering, just it needed little extra eye-catching spice IMHO.

Why did you ever choose to rename this thing to 'Milestone' in Europe? Droid is a far better name, and now it get's confusing for customers worldwide! And besides, Milestone isn't really a strong name for a portable device in my opinion.
