I know its probably way too late....but the rear section from a beetle and a super beetle are the same. the difference is from the a pilar forward. The door gaps dont line up because he didn't take the time to line it up properly before he welded the pactch panels in, or the body is twisted. You can shim the door to help the gap. as far as the fender line.....cut out the body, bolt the section to the fender and then test fit it with the fender on, then weld it up. Sorry, this guy screwed u!
Also, you can get full replacement sheet metal for almost the entire vehicle. Look up a company called "mid atlantic motorworks" They've got a huge catolog for air cooled vw's.
Around page 23, you can find lots of stuff. Sorry, but it looks like this project has a long way to go. Almost back to the beginning.
Did he take the body off the chassis? I believe he most likely did replace the heater channels, seeing how much work he did elsewhere. If you don't put a support brace in, prior to removing the heater channels, the body will tweak. That is precisely why neither door fits properly. The fix for this won't be easy. I believe you'd have to break the welds on the heater channels(lots of them), and resquare everything. Not going to be fun, but it's the only way, I think. Sorry.
No!
