  • Very nice.

  • awesome job! :)

this song is one of those that have very true lyrics and that we definitely need to listen to more as a society. xD

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • My Baptist choir will be singing this on Sunday Nov. 22, 2009.

  • No,I'm afraid as far as the SHAKERS are concerned the 'Heavenly Mother' was Mother Anne Lee, whom they revered as the second incarnation of Jesus Christ, ie the Second Coming, Hence they called themselves, The United Society of Believers in Christs Second Appearing.

BTW, I am a Byzantine Catholic, but have been a student of world religions and pseudo Christian sects for many years..

  • Are you LDS. I'd join the LDS church, but I can't stand the music in the lds hymnbook. I especially have a problem with the song about "Heavenly Mother." Who in heaven is she? Never heard of her and it's not biblically based.

  • i am so lds! you should join it is awesome once you get used to it!

  • References to the Heavenly Mother are references to Mary, the mother of God. While it might not be a direct biblical reference, the Tradition of venerating Mary predates the biblical texts.

Just FYI though, I'm Roman Catholic, not LDS, so I'm not entirely sure about in their tradition.

  • I was checking to see if there was a dulcimer version of this song on Youtube... what a wonderful site you have.

    Dave

  • Welcome to my channel, Dave. I'm afraid you won't find any dulcimer here though!

  • Nice song!

  • Sydney Carter obviously thought so. His version - Lord of the Dance - is one of his most popular songs.

  • What chords are you playing?

  • Lyrics and chords of my songs are on my website: raymondcrookeDOTcom

Click "My Folk Songs", then "Gospel Songs" and you'll find it there (in alphabetical order).

  • The Shakers were technically the first communists, or at least a very basic form of communism. Nothing wrong with communism, just a fun fact.

  • Thanks for sharing that. :-)

  • Nice

  • best of all the versions here on youtube. they are ALL nice, but i prefer the ones that keep it SIMPLE...the churchey, chorale versions kind of miss the point! all lovely, of course, but this one is so genuine. thanks for sharing

  • Thank you for your kind comments.

  • Ah, but Lord of the Dance was an 1963 adaptation of the original Shaker song Simple Gifts, which was written in 1848.

  • OMG! this has the same rhythm as 'lord of the dance' !!

  • Well actually...now that you mention it 'Lord of the dance' has always been a personal favorite of mine.

  • This IS Lord of the Dance! Actually I was thinking of doing the parody - "Bored of the Dance".

But really, I intend to put up all the Sydney Carter songs I know. There are two there already. I'll bring Lord of the Dance forward - just for you.

  • Much appreciated :)

  • Okay. "Lord of the Dance" is ready for you. Have a look at "Bored of the Dance" too!

  • now you KNOW I love this one

  • Hello little sister. Welcome to YouTube. I'm looking forward to seeing your videos. ;-)
