Just wanted to let you know that you're the main reason I have inspiration to practice on my piano every day. You truly are a master of your craft, keep up the great work.
Just started taking piano lessons myself now in january after becoming so inspired by you.. Watched your vids since your old account, and I've played the FF-series etc. since 1997.. Just wandering - You started at the age of 8, but how long did you have a teacher before you started on your own? And second: Why aren't you world famous?
Greetings from Norway and your biggest inspired fan =)
This is not an open piano, so I can't make the joke that Jerry is running inside of the piano. This has to be real. c_c You're remarkable, you're marvelous, you're magnificent, you're astonishing, you're astounding, you're fabulous, and you're stunning. Congratulations.
it's weird... it's like every other improv you do is AMAZINGLY SEXY and the ones in between are too weird... Improvisation no79 was AMAZINGLY SEXY (especially the ending.) then improvisation no80 was like wtf..? and then improvisation no81 was AMAZINGLY SEXY, and improvisation no 82 was like wtf..?? (just doing the same thing over and over.) and then this one is AMAZINGLY SEXY!!!11 Stop doing weird improvs in between, and just keep them SEXY like this one!!!!
@charliebucket47 You though Improv 80 was weird? I thought it was amazing. The Waltz part at about 3 minutes in has to be one of my favourite pieces to listen to.
@charliebucket47 That's the thing though Charlie, no82 was supposed to be like that. I sat down with the intention of composing an Etude on the spot. There was a reason for the repetitiveness in the technique. :p
Ok I can't take this anymore. We all learn something every day and here is my two cents to help people sound smart: A "SONG" has words, this is called a "PIECE". By the way, wonderful piece.
Kyle you should have deleted other recordings in the piano:P I always do this by standard now. 2 weeks ago I was recording a hard Kapustin piece, and at take 12 I finally got down the chardest part off the piece recorded. But then the freaking red light started flashing and than you know you're screwed.....
@promotecheese2010 yeah but he does have a gift. Many ppl try and work hard to be good but you have to have some talent or gift to get this good no matter how much one works. To be able to improvise, to make stuff sound like todays music with your own twist? thats all the person.
@promotecheese2010 That's like saying Mozart was nothing special. He was just more ambitious. There is such a thing as natural-born talent, even if you have to work for years to make it shine.
Actually if we're bringing this scientifically, there is no such thing as natural born talent. A human baby is not born with the ability to play the piano, it's not genetic. I'm pretty sure that when he first played the piano, he wasn't pretty good. If you work for years to make it shine, it's not natural born talent, but hard work and dedication :)
@promotecheese2010 I don't think anybody was implying otherwise, even though I practise for many hours I very much doubt that I could get as good as that, to be as good as that you must have talent in the first place AND have it nurtured.
I can listen to your music over and over, it's so beautiful that you even took me out of a depression a few years ago. This is also the reason why I started playing the piano on my fourteenth (now eightteen).
Then, I played your Can You Feel The Love Tonight on my school. After I finished, my music teacher came to me and said: "Wow, this version sounds so hard to play and so beautiful. I want you to have an extra A+ for whatever test you like.
Kyle, how important do you feel learning piano pieces is to your improvisation? I feel I improvise pretty well, but I don't know how to do anything other than improvise. Do you feel that learning songs has helped your improv?
musicians feel emotion....deeper then people, but they put that sense of emotion..into their music playing so others can feel it to...... I my friend have felt that emotion hearing this..
Nice video once again . . . I always love your improvisations. I play piano also, and have been trying to get better at improvising, since up until now I have stuck strictly to sheet music. Do you have any general tips? Also, is there a certain way you learned how to do those amazing runs (like at 2:44) or is it just lots of practice? I can do them ok but only after multiple tries of the same one, not simply on the fly like you.
@SamScheff Runs shouldn't be too difficult if you're good at scales. Though a lot of 'runs' are completely different and far more complex than anything you'd find in a scale, but nevertheless major/minor scales are a good foundation to work from. :D
@440HertzPiano Thanks for the advice. Man, I love looking through comments on Kyle's videos. It's like a safe haven where people that comment are actually respectful.
Hi Kyle, you're definitely a big inspiration of mine, how many hours a day do you practice usually? Or rather... "Play" because it isn't really "grueling practice" when you're passionate about something.
@Wk4fGiga Apparently Chopin practiced 2-3 hours a day and he advised "hard concentrated practice" is better than mindlessly repeating passages over and over. He recommended no more than 3 hours to his best students, this is from what I read in several history books though. I've asked Kyle that question many times, I think that's the one question pianists absolutely hate being asked. haha!
@kylelandry cool you're answering everyone's questions xD!!!!!11 Hey Kyle, I was just wondering, what do you think of doing a Q & A video like Sherry Kim and Lara did??
@kylelandry That makes sense. I can never practice any more than 2 hours in one sitting. Maybe 4 hours divided throughout the day. 5 hours on some weekends. 6 is the absolute limit before my brain explodes. :D
@440HertzPiano ohh.. because if u were, i was gonna trick you into practicing for 7 hours so ur brain explodes and then i could pick up the pieces and eat em and then they would get added to my brain so i could be better at improvising kuz i'm really bad rite now
@440HertzPiano I made a sarcastic response to charliebucket47, I don't actually practice 7 hours. I agree with you, that's too much. 2-3 hours is the best, 4 hours is my maximum. :D

very nice, I assume by "improvisation" that you made this up all on the spot? If only I could do that, I'm still working on putting chords to a melody, you're such a role model for me and many others!
@kylelandry Hadn't thought I'd seen it in a while, I'm used to seeing the P155 and going "oo I have the same!". Keep up the good work as always, LOVED the rihanna cover btw!
kyle, would you have any tips for an intermediate player attempting to improv? I improv often and can come up with nice melodies and what not but NOTHING close to this. Any tips on how to improve my improv skills? A reply would be greatly appreciated.

very nice, I assume by "improvisation" that you made this up all on the spot? If only I could do that, I'm still working on putting chords to a melody, you're such a role model for me and many others!

@kylelandry
LMAO! xD
How old is it?
Flowingspirit05 1 month ago
@Flowingspirit05 I was exaggerating, it's 7 years old, going on 8... but that's really old for a keyboard.
