I really prefer the album (Songs of Faith and Devotion) version best because I don't care for the choir. I was sad they put the choir version on their Singles 86-98 double album. Anyway, brilliant song. They are Depeche Mode after all!

Dave sang Condemnation on the Exciter tour. OH! There's a little story in the tour diary from the Exciter tour where Dave almost lost it singing this song on the last show of the tour. He said it was all he could do to keep it together and finish the song. This song is very emotional for him.
Does anyone know if Martin singing this song is on a Depeche Mode CD of any sort? I'd love to add it to my audio collection, but this video will suffice for as long as it's left here on YouTube. Also, if it's ever taken down, please repost.
Dave didn`t sing Condemnation at all during the second part of the Devotional Tour, because heroin affected his voice. If you see interbiews with him from that period you can see he sounds pretty ragged.
He had died temporarily not long after. He just could not endure Condemnation vocals at that time I suppose. If you saw the complete Biloxi video you could notice that Dave was not looking so good.
I'd like to see the video version of this, which I've not seen in years. I recall it had some bloke dragging a cross or a yoke across some fields. He didn't look very happy.
