  • Great video!

  • @Bylga Thank you

  • Thanks so much for the video on the router use.my son and I are starting to do some work on wood pieces and building some coops for our chickens and ducks...Knowledge is power and thank you again:-)

  • @econorob66 Awesome glad to hear it.

  • Hey man this was great! I never knew how a router was used until now! I want one!! Oh one big thing when making these videos... stress the importance of safety goggles. Other than that, great video! I love your stuff!

  • @sully9088 Yes you're right. And I have been for awhile now. Thanks again.

  • :::ATTENTION:::

Please normalize your audio! Lots of video editing software's have this feature that automatically makes the volume constant on your video. Great job on the video though.

  • that was really useful as I've never used one before - thanks

  • great video!

  • Just want to thank you man! I decided to build a guitar and have never used a router or a jigsaw before, and your tuts really helped.

  • do u have a clip about routing in wood as apposed to the outer edge??

  • My left ear enjoyed this.

  • Excellent tutorial. Thanks very much.

  • @littlebear450 Thank you. More how to use power tools to come very soon. Any tool you would like to see a video on ? Please let me know.

  • Great video - just got a router. After hefting it I kinda wondered about those handles, too. Too low for the center of gravity.

  • @catothewiser Good deal. Good luck with it. They can be a lot of fun.

  • Hey Dominick - I really like your idea for using the rug underpad for keeping your wood still. great idea. i also just got a set of those orange bench cookies - those work awesome too

  • @nialljamesbuckley Yes it really does look like padding. But that's really a mat for routing. it's a lot tenser.

  • I think you're great!! I fucking LOVED your videos. You're hilarious. So patronizing. It's great. :D

I learned a lot...I think I'm gonna get started. I hope. HA! You inspired me.

  • Hey Dominic, you fucked it up mate... look at the last few seconds of your video and the routed edge of the wood is wonky... FAIL!!!

  • @banjax66 hahahaha

  • this isnt router router share the internet connection and that not is a router

  • Comment removed

  • @sybrae fuck you too :D

  • could you make a video of how to use a router to cut out a guitar shape pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Thank you.

  • but will it blend?

  • Great video man! I'm trying to build a bookshelf and envisioned slotting the shelves into dados, and found a guide that said I'd either need a table saw + dado blade or a router... Obviously the router is cheaper, but I've never even held one. Now I feel like it's something I could probably handle :)

  • Thank You.

  • Great video! What bit do you suggest for installing door hinges?

  • omg i thought this was for a internet router

  • great demo, thanks

  • Great video, thanks!

  • @shadysprings Thank you very much

  • Hey Dominic, what would be the best router for a beginner to use and the most cost effective one? I'm most going to be routing wood but i dont know which one to buy and i dont want to spend a lot of money on a professional one where i wont be taking full advantage of it. Thanks again for that video it really nicely done.

  • What I'm wanting to do it carve out a groove in wood in the shape of a fluer de lis, then I want to nail tacks down into the groove to form the shape, so that the tacks are SUNK down into the wood. Does that sound easy? Can I use a router to do something like that OR would it be better to carve the wood out by hand with a chisel?

  • Love the video. You failed to show safety glasses. Please, please, please include each and every possible standard safety precaution. It's just so basic. Especially on an intro video. Sounds silly? Looks goofy? Maybe it saves someone's sight. Thanks !!!

  • Can you use a router to cut say a circle into the middle of a piece of wood? Not all the way through or else I'd just use a hole saw...but just like a half inch or so? If so what bit would you use. And if I'm completely wrong lol...what tool would be better for that?

  • Can you use it on plastic??

  • @halfmumi Sure can. I use to use one a bullet prof glass (plastic) all the time ,

  • @DominickDiy Thanx a lot Dominic. And if i am not wrong,i need Tungsten Carbide bits to cut a HDPE type plastic?

  • @halfmumi No matter what always use carbide.

  • @DominickDiy Thanx a lot for your help. Also Can you upload a video showing that a plunge router cutting plastic? I haven`t seen any videos on the web about that. Very much appreciated.

  • I was looking for a video about internet routers but ended up watching it anyway lol.

  • @EvilMaxWar Well glad see it

  • Thanks!

  • DUDE! i love how your explanations :D i want to make a mancala board :) thanks for your video!!

  • nice!

  • Doesnt he remind you of wilson from home improvement?

  • Thanks, im making a corner desk for my husband for Father's Day, this really helps

  • Thanks, Dominic, pretty cool. thought I have to build a router table first before use it.

  • Thanks for the video. I am thinking about making my own base cabinets and am thinking about buying a router, the info was useful!

  • wow, that look super easy " hope its as easy as it look", thank you.

  • Thank you Dominick

  • think i'll go buy me a router now! :)

  • This helped me a lot, thank you. I'm in a shop class and my teacher gave me the router and told me to go at it, he didn't tell me much about how to use, I think I burned my wood...haha well anyway your video really helped me a lot more than my teacher so thank you :D

  • Hey Dominck,

I'm 59 and never touched a router before. I had a board I wanted to do an edge on all around it. I watched your video, borrowed a router from my neighbor (that he had not opened the box on in over 10 years he said, it's a Hitachi TR-12) and I had the rubber rug already (for floor use) and so after I watched your video three times I went and did the job. Turned it on and yeah, scary sh*t but I just kept your video in mind and dude! It came out awesome! Thanks so much! :-)

  • @xKmotx 10 years, WOW.. Glad I could help out. You'll find that you can do anything with a router.

  • Hey Dominick,

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just got my first "real" router and have many projects planned. I went to Vo-tech school about 10 years ago so that was the last time I was able to use a good router. I just wanted to refresh myself on the basics and your videos really did that for me. It's like I always say... Let's all learn from each other.

    Joe Tactical

  • This was a lot of help for me just getting started. Thanks for the video!

  • gracias amigo, really helpful video

  • @rolandoisu Thank you very much

  • godd job, safety is absolutely missing.

never touch it if cord is plugged in!!!!

  • That cord looks frayed.

  • @seanseanseanseansean Yes it was, I have since replaced it. Good eyes

  • Maybe try starting with the crosscut then moving to the rip cut to prevent the second corner from chipping? Or go slower?

  • I'm a beginner and this was helpful. thanks.

  • The second corner you did got messed up eh? Did you adjust it the depth or something?

  • dude! i mean router of combuter not for wooodd!

  • Okay, why did I keep expecting to see Red Green come in? :)

  • @BondoFox What do you mean ?

  • Thanks so much. This was just what I was looking for.

  • @channyne Glad I could help

  • If beginners are going to watch this video and think they don't need to clamp their material down, they're unnecessarily risking injury. Spend the $10 and get a good clamp.

  • You did good Dominic. Thanks much.

  • Thanks Dude !! Loved It !

  • that bath mat works exelent i use it for angle grinding too.shouldnt you be using hearing protection?

  • thanks it helped

  • @uspsucks Glad I could help out and Merry Christmas

  • ace video! thanks so much for explaining not only how to use it but also how the router works! Really useful! Also fun to watch haha. Quote regarding the wobble: "You don't wanna do any of that!"

  • Thank you for this video, very informative, and funny :)

  • Thanks for the tips. I bought a router from a friend who was selling off his tools. Had no idea how it worked. Now I do.

  • Nice easy to follow and informative . Thank you

  • Nice one dude. Not scared now!

  • @2009thedman Good deal. Never be scared, just be smart about it.

  • Nice video and very helpful. I never used one before but plan to route the edge of 1x2's to make stretcher bars upon which to mount canvas for oil paintings. I hope it works.

    Thanks

  • As a new router owner, thanks to wifey, you took some of the mystery of routers away, in an easy going, informative video. Thanks and I shall return.

  • Nice video! Thanks for posting it.

  • I found this video very helpful. thank you

  • @catspajamas01 You welcome very much and thank you,

  • Just purchased a router at flea market, looking forward to using it on my next project. Great Video.

  • @Dalinda5 Good deal and thank you very much.

  • I only need a router to start making my dream guitars...

but i dont have one =(

  • Thanks Dom. I've used a router before, but it's been a couple years. I have a new one in the box from X-mas 09'. After watching this, it's time to get kicking again. I hope you make some more straight to the point, informative videos like this one.

  • whats diy mean

  • @IVIoNsTa360gaming

    DIY Do it yourself

  • Great Video. The Tips really helped me out. Thanks Dominick

  • @jinker01 Oh yes I did wear them.

  • Thanks! getting ready for a project with a router... learned a lot from this

  • @DrFrige Thank you very much.

  • @jinker01 Anus Mctitty ball sacks

  • Is the bearing the guide to keep the router from moving inward?

  • @pinkyzoey Yes that's it's job.

  • Excellent video as always, thank you Dominick :)

  • @sidehop My pleasure. Thank you.

  • Thanks for the video ... it's sad to say but I learned alot. I'm planning to do more DIY stuff and looking into different routers and the like.

    Thanks again!

    Kevin

  • @Funk1975 Good deal Kevin, glad I could help.

  • how do you keep the cut straight without some sort of guide?

  • @mashersmasher The bearing in my case is how it was done. Other wise you would use a guide.

  • very helpful, especially liked the pad hint and the info regarding cross cut versus rip cut!

    Thanks!

  • @DougYork Thank you.

  • Excellent video. Showing the things that could go wrong and how to avoid them is very helpful. Thank you.

  • @goldcoast1100 Awesome, glad I could help.

  • Thanks for the video

  • @jinker01 and @cronnin

just because you assumed it does not make it true, I checked your channel, do you wear a mask in those bars you play in, do wear ear protection to protect from the noise you are making, and eye protection for the flying glass bottle, looks like a classy place where you play. just to say that sometimes you should just enjoy the info and not get too critical of others, when really you have no idea.

@Dominik sorry ,some people are just too stupid.

  • @carniala I guess anyone working with a machine that slices wood throwing chippings and dust into the atmosphere without wearing the right kind of protection falls under the category "some people are just too stupid", wouldn't you agree?

And, to the other prat on about the band videos. Errr, I was the guy taking the video, silly person.....!!!

  • @jinker01

Wow, calm down. You must be some expert lol. I bet you know much more than my boss whose been doing construction for years and has built his own house ect ect. and doesn't use any protection when using a skill saw. Seriously, if you think you need a dust mask for this you're crazy.

  • @RaynauddeChatillon. No problem mate thanks for the tip, but I think I'll keep wearing safety stuff as wood chippings in your eyes isn't very pleasant. Also, ear protectors cost less than hearing aids and tinnitus isn't great either. Lastly, I hope you don't mind, but I'd rather not breathe in wood dust as I hear its not very good for you.

  • great vid...Thanks check out my setup.....

  • I fn' love this guy! Cool video and great intro for me (a total beginner).

  • Must have missed that. And still must be missing that ??? At what point did this eye protection appear?

  • @jinker01 At what point do you see my eyes without eye protection on ?

  • @DominickDiy

Micro convulsions of your body are caused by sawdust pieces poking in your eye, and mid-high frequency of your voice has not changed, which would be expectable if you had your earplugs on.

    So, definitely not protected ;)

  • thank you dominick

  • Bravo Dom,,,multa bane

  • thanks dom good vid mate look forward to more vidz cheers from down under australia

  • great video!

  • @gut197 Glad I could help. Thank you

  • Thanks Dominick.

  • wow, i came here looking for a computer video on routers.... you SURE this wont work?

  • Thank you so much for this!

  • hey DominickDiy

I justed started not to long ago making small projects with my router. I got a craftsman bench top router. I got a featherboard for it and my slide on the table is 5/8in wide and 1/4in deep I bought a miter gauge for it too. They fit but is it suppose to move back and forth freely mine as mine is kind of stiff. any suggestions on how to fix it

  • That was great Dominick ! You have any tips for routing a curved piece of wood ?

  • Thank you. Just go with the flow of the wood. Let the bearing guide you

  • sweet, i'll be looking forward to the engraving vid. i had some scrap wood and did a lil practice and there are some people that dont have the skill.

  • what bit did u use? ive been practicing with a router but i want to make the corner look like urs but idk wut bit to use

  • I don't remember sorry. Just go to the store and look at them. There are thousands you can pick from.

  • i have never used a router before and want to know if i can use one to engrave a name into a piece of wood like a placard and how?

  • I think you just suggested a new video, LOL now it's on my list. Yes you can but you would need that bit of course. Doing it free hand is not easy to say the least. But hey give it a try.

  • Stay tuned as they say. I will be making a how to engrave / make a sign video this weekend.

  • thank you

  • Anytime, glad I could help

  • Very informative, thanks a lot!

  • Thank you, I do try my best to get into the detail..

  • i'm making speaker cabinets and want to make nice edges.

Now i know how to do it by watching this video.

    Thanks Dominick !

  • Cool deal. glad I could help.

  • what sort of router would you recommend for a beginner. i'm just learning, but still want to make sure i've got high quality long lasting gear if possible. how much will they set me back? and what would you recommend?

By the way your vid was really helpful, thanks very much for the post :-)

    Adrian

  • without spending a super lot and still getting a good product I like the Dewalt brand. As far as what kind, that would depend on what you want to do with it.

  • well to be honest all i'm really looking to do is put some nice bevelled edges on to furniture...

at present however i'm building a box to house some guitar effect pedals and have been told by numerous people that a router is an essential woodworking tool. Can this be used to just cut simple grooves into wood too? Aid with joining etc?

  • You had me at "doesn't mean you can't get your fingers ripped off by it" Hahaha :-)

  • LOL, yes but true.. LOL

  • Helpful video. I have one question: Does it matter whether I go clockwise, or counter clockwise?

  • Counter clockwise, but not all the time.

  • Nice posting!

  • Thank you very much...

  • Thanks for posting, I have a new router I bought cheap in a sale can you show the correct way to load a bit please is it the same as a drill where it is just the cutting part exposed feel daft asking but I want to learn

    Thanks ian

  • Well, as far as setting the cutting portion of the bit that's up to you. Installing the bit, place the bit all the way in, then back it out about a 10k of a inch (a hair) you never want the bit all the in tight. Pulling it out that little bit helps on vibration.

  • Thank you very much. Any suggestions on a new video. Any thoughts on what you may like to see.

  • Really cool video man! thanks for sharing... But, shouldn't you be wearing safety goggles? I'm just a hobby shop guy and if I dont' need to wear my goggles for routing it would make it a lot more comfortable to see what I'm doing!

  • And I was. Look at my hands. I have a remote for the camera. That I turn on and off.

  • Wow, am I glad I found this video. You seem like a really great instructor man. This helped me out so much. Looking forward to more instructional videos.

  • I'm glad you found too. And thank you very much. Don't forget to subscribe then. I may even have some new ones tomorrow.

  • I like this guy. He seems like a guy that would be patient with a new hire. Not a Perfect No-It-All but he knows what he's doing.

  • Great video, very informative.

However you should really say a bit more about safety!

You are touching the router bit when the device is plugged in and you don't wear safety goggles!

Especially since this is the first result when you search for 'router'.

  • Thank you.. At what point did yo
