  • I'm liking what Rhonda Smith was making that bass sound like in the background. That woman can play!

  • For those that try to school me on my guy, Prince Rogers Nelson.

I've known him since he was playing at 'Uncle Sam's' in Mpls back in the 70's. The club changed to 'Sam's' and is now called '1st Avenue'. He is 2 years older than me & I used to party at the club and at Lake Minnetonka. He's always had an entourage with him & always been very quiet. Some times spoke, usually not. I flew back up to Mpls. for the Purple Rain Concert & was in front of row 1, floor. Pleeeez... stop tryin 2 school me.

  • @PaisleyPark319: yeah, it's so lame that I stopped watching it...AFTER the video finished!! Next time, I'll probably post my own shit instead of complaining about what someone ELSE was kind enough to post.

  • @fooloof Sounds good!

  • prince is like ben button

  • @jmolly3080 I guess that's why he's in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame then! Join the 21st century. Rockers don't go away. Children just never learn to appreciate their artistry.

    SpeakTruer

  • @SpeakTruer ?? I'm not talking about that. have u seen the movie?? lmao

  • @jmolly3080 LMAO, duh... I don't see that he has aged backward!! It made no sense. Thank God he hasn't. He wasn't the cutest guy when he was younger. I think he looks great now. Younger..... no! Better..... yep!

  • @FireitupBedford Really! Paisley's comment is rather humorous since this video taken with a little Kodak camera that I held, without moving all over, mind you.... It has over 179,000 hits! Can't be all that bad for a grab and record.

    Peace

  • @PaisleyPark319 Paisley, hun, if you had read the info above you would have seen that I had no idea that it was gonna be on and just grabbed a camera on the table and started to record. You're the lame one for insulting me without the facts. If you didn't like it, you should have changed to a different video. I've even apologized for the quality.

  • @SpeakTruer I was enjoying the performance too much to bitch about HOW it was recorded :) I would take a chance by braving the elements of high winds and storms to see Prince over candyland ANYDAY!

  • Something is wrong with the TWO folks that didn't like this. They obviously got a tin ear....

  • Sheila E. rules my underwear! Woo-Hoo!!

  • hands down one of the all time greatest live performers we will ever see!

  • i've noticed in recent years prince prefers to play a stratocaster. besides his custom built guitars he used to play a honner telecaster. was that stolen as mentioned in the george lopez interview?

  • Sexy version, WOW!

  • How long will it take for me to learn to play guitar like that?

  • So good. Real music.

What makes life so great is the memories and the feelings you have.

  • Prince is ALWAYS good live. Can't say that about too many artists.

  • his hair si fucking tight.

  • HE LOOKS SO SEXY!!! LOVE U PRINCE...........

  • WOW !! The Beautiful Sheila E is ROCKIN on drums!

  • does anyone know if Ellen pulled her backstage prank and scared Prince? That would be great

that guitar solo is crazy fantastic

  • Does Prince age?

  • Is that also Rhonda Smith back on the bass?? Wow... would love to watch this formation live.

  • pRINCE HAD PROVEN HIMSELF TO BE THE CONSUMATE ARTIST...EVEN THRU CONTROVERSY, HE CONTINUES TO BE REVELANT,,,HIS MUSIC DOESNT SATURATE THE MARKET SO YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO APPRECIATE WHAT HE DOES PUT OUT...PRINCE IS THE BEST

  • Prince and Sheila E. are some SUPER FLUID TALENTED musicians that are forever classics and forever respected in my booK!

  • makes my 80 vintage hairybush wet and mine lookz better than Appollonias

  • That is the first time I've ever seen him play a Strat. He is usually always on the telecaster or one of his customs. Sounds great though!

  • prince - still the genius!!!!!!!!!!!111

  • Fantastic version of "wild thing " great solo !!!

  • Wouldnt it be sick to see him do a reunion album with the reveloution

  • So freakking sexy! And for 52!

  • I first saw Prince live in March 1982 at the Capitol Theater in NJ.. The Time opened for him..We bought tickets at the door..6 months later you couldn't get a ticket to his concerts..That was the 1st of 4 times seeing him live...He is amazing in concert..

  • It's funny how he really toned-downed drastically in terms of how he used to dress.

  • he heolp me when i was coming up he and morris day..funky and cool..

  • Prince has a sense of style all his own!

  • @30hourpunch That would be an understatement. He is right on the cusp of reality and sanity at times. But he is a 'true' artist. That is for sure. Thnx for your comment.

    SpeakTruer

  • @SpeakTruer Thank U for posting this.

I could tolerate the sound being crazy ONLY because Prince was playing!

And I wouldn't miss him for the world!

He looks like he stepped right out of the 70's!

I am so happy to see him live & Rockin!

    He is my age...

    Hmmmmm... '-'

  • @funkateerkitty Right around mine too. :/ It is what it is. If it wasn't that he was just a bit older than me, I never would have been in the bar watchin' him play at 'Uncle Sam's'. Everything is for a reason funkateerkitty!

  • he's back to prince.

  • @walkbolton You are so correct!! I was attempting to keep from having this pulled. He doesn't like his shit posted.

I used to go to the bar and watch him at Uncle Sam's and then it was just Sam's before I moved to TX. It's called '1st Avenue' now, that's the street it's on. Yes, he was the same as he is now back then. Always had a posse with him. Sometimes he'd talk, usually he didn't.

  • Genius, nuff said.

  • Shit there have been so much times I've wanted to critisize this man and then the fucker just picks up his guitar and I have to shut the fuck up again. I still think he's a hypocrite though for once proclaming music must be free and now being adamant on keeping everything off youtube.

  • I miss this man! and Sheila E is just FIERCE on the drums.

  • FYI: Prince has been using his real name again, and has not been referred to as "The Artist Formerly Known...", since "Crystal Ball" came out in the late 1990's!!!

  • @wendyandlisa I can't keep answering to this comment. Read the one by yours.

  • i know this is too good - if you don't get it - sorry

  • sheila really knows how to play with flash and class - awesome!

and that was A CLASS MOVE on prince's part with the guitar onto ellen.

    bravo

  • Here we have the best drummer on the planet and the best guitarist on the planet together! What else can you ask for?

  • I have those glasses! I can't see without them! OMG I LUV MY GLASSES NOW!

  • @dymonddozen I think that's cool. You must have good taste. You chose the same frames as Prince.

    SpeakTruer

  • thanks! my mom told me that my glasses looked good, i never believed her until i saw this video. I LOVE MY GLASSES SO MUCH NOW!

  • I love Wendy & Lisa.But Prince & Sheila E just as good.

  • well done!

thanks 4 posting this performance :)

  • I love this for what it is...but the sound is SHITTY!

  • Nice glasses.

  • it IS Rhonda Smith on bass.. great performance, shame about the quality. yes prince sure is someone special..

  • nahh I think thats Rhonda Smith on bass

  • very distorted. When was this show? And is that lisa or wendy coleman on bass still? After all these years?

  • snellashley,

As it says in the comments by the subscribe button, it was April 09. It's distorted cus I grabbed the little Kodak digital camera on the table and pointed it at the TV and recorded it. I didn't know he'd be on. I thought it turned out pretty well, considering.

    SpeakTruer

  • @snellashley

For the record, it's Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Campbell. And no, they haven't played with him in years but they have done lots of work, including the score for the TV show "Heroes."

  • thats who I meant....my bad. Lol. Point the finger at the blond....

  • lisa coleman

  • Prince siempre ha sido y sera Prince....soy melomano pero Prince esta en un lugar especial, ESPECIAL

  • ummm... dumb title - he changed his name back to Prince back in 2000 Hello? duh

  • Pow3rGaming,

ummmm.... silly comment - If i had just put 'Prince' It would have been deleted by now!

I did misspeak when I said it wasn't his birth name. It in fact was part of his name that was given to him at his birth. Sorry.

He legally changed it on his 35th b-day to an unpronounceable name and has since changed it back. Once again, sorry.

    SpeakTruer

  • Thanks for this ! xoxo -c-c-

  • check out that freakin bass....whoa

  • He stopped being formerly known as almost a decade ago :)

  • Still the best versatile Latin drummer of all since Tito Puente. It was sad that the audio was screwed but I congratulate Sheila on being on Ellen. As she says in the song, Sheila IS living "the glamorous life!!"

  • Prince is simply genius amazing as a writer, producer, singer, performer dude is just amazing no one really compares

u have to see this dude LIVE he seperates himself from the pack the seamless transitions from styles to genres to moods to feelings he is a true artist

  • lorell,

I used to know him back in the days when he played in Mpls. at what was then called 'Uncle Sam's' (The bar in Purple Rain). He wasn't well known and was really playing as a bar band just like in the movie. He is really deep and back then was so conceded. I guess that was part of his eccentricities he still has today. He truly is an artist of unique talents.

    SpeakTruer

  • He blew about thirty of us away a few years back when he was living here in Toronto, dude got up and jammed at a club in Toronto on Pears Ave, Network i think.

  • mosswalker2,

That must have been a special night for you! I haven't seen him since the early to mid 90's. He was still as great as ever.

    SpeakTruer

  • @lorrell - you are so right!!! I seen him at Madison Square Garden twice..... He is the ABSOLUTE Artist.... amazing..... he's like fine wine, gets better with age!!! lol....Love You Prince...

  • not feeling this jam, Prince over involved sentimentalism get a bit much some times

  • @sekouche If you can't feel it, then u must be dead

  • She is always amazing on the drums. I would ignore Prince to watch her play and I am a big Prince fan, friend or whatever...

  • ok yeah he was egotistical conceded and a womanizer but that was in his early career! im not interested in his personal life! he is a totally brilliant awesome performer songwritet and musician nuff said!!!!!

  • This is fucking awesome even with the shittiest sound ever....

  • I didn't think it was that bad of sound compared to many I've heard recorded from the TV screen. It was a digital Kodak camera, that takes short video's. Pretty good if you look at it from that perspective ;~D

    SpeakTruer

  • I hear what you're saying but in the end...

    you can't polish a turd.

    Thanks for posting though.

  • Sheila E. said in the past that they were lovers for awhile but it started to interfere with their working relationship so they cooled it off.

  • I betcha Prince has been all over Sheila E. They're probably secretly, madly in love with each other and has been for years! It wouldn't suprise me one bit if the headlines read; "Long time band mates, music icon Prince and Sheila E. wed in Minneapolis"!

  • fo sho! Indeed they were a couple in the past, maybe again, why not.

  • I know, right!

  • Sheila Escovedo is damn cool in my books!

  • Does anyone know what's the song called?

  • Crimson & Clover

  • It's awesome to see a bit of his playful side again. Loved this man for almost 30 years and wow, he just keeps getting better.

  • He has become much more spiritual than he was in the younger days.

    SpeakTruer

  • i would say that he has always been spiritual.

    record companies shackled his expression.

that is one of the reasons he wrote slave on his face.

  • 03030303,

'you might say he has always been spiritual'.... But when I went to see him and got to know him a bit back in the late 70's and early 80's he wasn't spiritual, he was egotistical and a womanizer. Not really spiritual, just horny and conceded!

    SpeakTruer

  • I love this song....Prince and Sheila E. always had beautiful chemistry. i always thought that he and Wendy from the "80's Revoloution era" had great chemistry too.

She was like the first woman that i actually saw handle a guitar and fiercely handling it, Lol....great musicians.

    I love Prince....

  • I don't think Sheila E. is the kind to settle down. She's has been single for so many years, in fact many have questioned whether she might be a lesbian because she seems to have stronger bonds with women than men. However, I could be wrong.

  • kalimaganeshshivan,

Not that it should matter and it would be none of anybodies business. Lesbian or str8 makes no difference in my opinion of her talents. Don't be a judgmental bigot.

    SpeakTruer

  • I'm not being a judgemental bigot. I love Sheila E. if she's a lesbian or not. Furthermore I have so many homosexuals in my family and I love them all. I was was just merely stating an opinion because people have wondered why Sheila E. has never had a boyfriend or husband. Incidentally she was raped and molested as a little girl by a relative, that may have something to do with her distrusting men in general. I do love Sheila and she is a phenomenal talent and I didn't mean to offend you.

  • kalimaganeshshivan.

Good, I'm glad you aren't another in a long line of YouTube haters.

Perhaps, she has just managed to keep her entertainer life separate from her personal life. Some can pull it off if the press isn't relentless about finding everything out about you. She really could be either. Not every molested child, or raped woman is a lesbian. I'm sure you know that most GLBT are born the way they are and couldn't change for anyone or anything.

    Peace,

    SpeakTruer

  • Prince should've married Sheila years ago. The only woman who can hang with him...

  • You're speakin true. She met him in the late 70's early 80's for the Purple Rain movie. And she can still relate to his eccentricities. I new him back in the day when he played 'Uncle Sam's' in MPLS, MN. He was the same way back then and he was a bar band dude with a huge ego and a large following.
