  • I know they are very different bands but I'm sure The Church's tracks like this one must have influenced at least the guitar playing of The Stone Roses. Some of the guitars in it are almost identical. Brilliant song.

  • Always liked this song.

  • thanks youtube.....good to hear my favorite music of the 80`s

  • Hear what God of Israel YAHUSHUA-YAHUWAH (Son and Father are ONE) saying to our generation by His chosen prophets: Trumpetcallofgodonline. com ; Letter called "Purify Your Faith, and Come to the Father as It is Written": EXCERPT: "Only in the Bible and through these very Letters, of which I have given to My prophet of the end of this age, shall you find Him and know Him."

    Regards.

  • great AUSSIE classic.... reminds me of summers when a kid..... tune

  • One of the great aussie rock classics.

  • maybe what alot of people are saying about the older bands maybe is that we really appreciate music that is played on musical instruments and not on synthesizers and computer generated music and voices electronically altered or enhanced. Most bands that actually play instruments don't need dancers, and wizz bang effects to give a great show either. There is good music from all ages but not so much any more on basic instruments.

  • Nice.

  • awesome just one of their best - jamming number - wilson-piper is it!

  • omg they are all so young!

  • One of my favourite all time songs.....I loved The Church in the 80's....some of their songs inspired my own writing! Also love"You Never Said"

  • @TheHoneyLouis She Never Said!

  • first time I heard the song it just blew me away. still brilliant today

  • long distance runners, deep..art school "maybe" who knows

  • Interesting to hear on a recent radio interview how much Steve Kilby dislikes this song... Go figure!

  • Those Aussie boys........yum. Too bad I'm married. jk

  • even jjj plays endless shit these days

  • @poopy50832 jjj?

  • you got it right classic classic that sounds sooo good and always will

  • Great song

  • Fuck all the trash on radio today. Fuck Bieber, Gaga, rap, hip hop. Fuck all that shit, I'll live in the past forever.

  • The Church will be performing at Twilight at Taronga on Saturday 28th Jan 2012. To book tickets go to ticketek.com.au

  • fuck gaga

  • aussie aussie aussie

  • kick ass

  • Timeless...but having grown up in the eighties there was alot of rubbish. We were just fortunate enough to actually have taste in music and steered clear of the pop trash.

  • very true dave, 80's tunes just won't ever lose it's appeal, let's see justin or gaga do that, as you say, no fucking way.

  • good music....not like some of the crap out their today ....its an abomination of what some people call music

  • Awesome song <3

  • In an "UNGUARDED MOMENT" I'd say that if you combined high-tech nano-sized potasium cyanide with quailty sodium metal (Keep it all dry) & then get an intelligent gunsmith to work it into armour piercing rounds you can kill any kind of ET snake-god vampire dragon snake-god shite that's trying to feast on you (Rev-19-18) & even if you can't get that together a simple high pressure pump action water pistol full of cyanide will at least give the "GOD (s) OF THIS WORLD" a bad case of indegestion... ?

  • @spacelizardlaw : Wow, I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing!

  • noice!

  • 7 people want their moments guarded.

  • What a Song!

  • Such a moving song.

  • Man I love this song. Hard to sit still with this one.

  • Says a lot for the era. Bands were tougher then. You had to be or you'd get laughed off. Look at bands like "The Angels" and "Rose Tattoo" and "The Radiators" etc the list goes on...all kicked ass and all were Aussies. Check out "Jimmy and the Boys" too they were a tad different but still kicked freckle !!

  • @tecnotone hey I remember Jimmy and the Boys.. search for Ignatious Jones latest vid..lol

  • One of my favourite bands!

  • my ears just orgasmed

  • Why did MTV have to go so 'deep and bloody meaningful'? We wanna SEE the band, got it?

  • First band I ever saw live after borrowing my brothers ID. it was at the pier hotel in Frankston. I wouldnt have missed it for the world. that was 27 years ago

  • @theantspants1 that brings back memories Noosa Aussie Hop 1980's First time I saw these guys live and many more times...

  • This song remains on my top three ever. Absolutely fundamental popsong.

  • This is such a TIMELESS song

  • I've "allways" been Very keen on this rock'n roll song... Like it Very much!

  • use to have a tape of this album. until my cassette ate it and spit it out.

  • my dream - a radio station. a COMMERICIAL one (not an internet, self-programmed one) that plays the Church, the Cult, REM - all those creative, 'alternative' or art-inspired bands of the 1980s and 1990s that hardly got any airplay on a big scale. everyday, a church song would start and finish rush hour. imagine, people going to work, ready to conquer the world in cooperation and fellowship.....

  • @jas22 YES.... The Church takes me back to an era long ago.... one of the live Bands still have the stubb for the concert.... along with Dire Straits.... dont' think REM ever came to Perth - had to make do with a cassette.....

  • can never go past any church music. rock on boys

  • Fuck I love Australia.

  • Dug this as a youngster along with Town Called Malice and I Got You...but the narrator needed to grow thicker skin and not care what those mean tongued vixen said to/about him.

  • I've got this on vinyl - said an old Punk :-)

  • Used to follow them around Sydney clubs in the eighties, still one of the best aussie bands ever!

  • Good song. One of the handful of talented Australian groups.

  • Poetic, deep and true. People are brutal, manipulative and so very false even 20+ years later, a song so real, relatable and relevant.

  • lol is it bad that I was the 666 th person to like this?

  • @aramscarem1 no ....it was just an unguarded moment...

  • @aramscarem1 lucky

  • Great Band.

  • Who's behind the drum kit?

  • lagi ko to kinakanta nun high skul pa ako...

  • I'll never understand why this band isn't more well known. These guys should've been HUGE.

  • Aside from ACDC,this is possibly the greatest Aussie song ever.

  • Besides Aussie Footy, The Church are my favorite Down Under thingee . . .

  • 30 Years later for me and I still remember the words, loved THE CHURCH :)

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmm that voice

  • @ugotmatt Amen bro. This song is the epitome of "a timeless classic". Can't imagine life w/out The Church.

  • oh steve you make me hard....

  • 31 years later, this song still kicks ass.

We won't be saying this about today's music in 30 years time, no fucking way.

  • @DaveScott69 -- you are fuckin CORRECT! today's music is no match for the 80's music!

  • @DaveScott69 yeah because you can predict the future can`t you.? you prick

  • @DaveScott69 Speak for yourself mate.. Plenty of outstanding music has been released in the last decade.. Bands and artists such as The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, James Blake, The XX, Crystal Castles, Yuck, Deerhunter, Grinderman, Ghostwood, Bloc Party, The Strokes, Mac Miller, Drake, Animal Collective, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, PJ Harvey and so on.. There is more music than Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber dude.. just have to dig a little deeper. Hindsight will drown all the terrible music...

  • @devilspedicure True! And our rose-tinted specs also make us forget that there were some crap bands back then, too. 5-Star, anyone?

  • @devilspedicure Well said!

  • @devilspedicure Forgot to mention the OmbudJudge, Inhibition, Mama's Beauty Parlor, Kid Arrears, Noynoy Palaboy, Talk Justice, Black Aborigines, Begets Crooks, Capt. Hook......Just Great Down Under Spiritual Bands!

  • @devilspedicure um can get you to take the artic monkeys , james blake and also the libertines because they all suck balls

  • @DaveScott69 We will, but we'll forget about today's equivalent of Bucks Fizz and Sheena Easton.

  • @DaveScott69

    It sure does !! :)

  • @ugotmatt: How true! But then again, I feel that way about 98% of the music of the 80's compared to the crap that's on the radio today. Where did all the fun go?

  • @LaughingMan0960 You sure got that right. I've lived through 6 different decades of music and the 80s is by far the most diverse, intuitive & like you said just plain fun.

  • @LaughingMan0960 Up the 90's nose? :D

  • @LaughingMan0960 the fun went up your asshole.

  • awesome

  • pero que buena rola de The Church!!...super éxito de 1981 y de mis favoritas de los 80's. Hermosa esta música que no ha pasado de moda! Salu2 a los amantes de los 80's como yo.

  • @rauloleono Yah! I agree with whatever you said! ;)

  • brilliant. as good as any oz song

  • brilliant. shits all over current day crap!!!!

  • brilliant

only saw them once at Sylvania

    very good

  • I saw these guys live in 1982, together with Moving Pictures. A great concert!

  • Remembering the Philippines back in 1986 or 87. Another new wave band that Filipinos like.

  • reminds me of summer in perth as a kid....

  • EXCELLENT song - Classic Aussie Stuff!

  • This band should of been inducted into the Australian ARIA Hall of Fame years ago. They have done so much over the past years the've worked their butts of for us fans. With all due respect to Tim I prefer Richard Ploog's style of drumming.Take care Church love ya till death.

  • still cool....

  • These guys should have been global... how cool was Steve Kilbey?

  • These guys should have been global... how cool was Steve Kilbey?

  • They played this on MTV when it 1st started. It has been in my head since, and I couldn't recall who it was. Happy to rediscover this great band.

  • Dunno if I mentioned it on youboob.... I was with an ex who had toured with Marty and we saw them at a small club, after the show we we went backstage where I was privileged to catch Steve "In an unguarded moment." (Sans skivvies) Lifetime memory.

  • MY FAVORITE SONG of all time. Please, what are the bridge chord shapes??? All online tabs are wrong!

  • @kissouraces yer there isnt many tabs online that play this song like the church did.most of the tabs show the second fret..there is one tab online that does it the right way if you interested ill post it let me know.

  • The Church is plaing the el rey. Cant fucking wait.

  • Not sure why Steve Kilbey doesnt like this...but I identify with it, Its timeless.

  • I don't like the lead singer

  • @61SGman -- chances are good he doesn't like you either. ;-)

  • undoubtedly U2 suck the big one. I mean that band really sucks. There songs are super crap. The Church on the other hand are great!

  • @slightlydelic Nah hes alright i saw them live on Thursday night a realized how good his voice was

  • Exactly, elmolester. That's why I don't listen to commercial radio.

  • Why weren't The Church as big as U2? Why did U2 get that big? That has always been a great mystery for me, ever since I heard this song on the radio. I think I have solved it. It's because most people have their taste in their arseholes. It's the only possible explanation.

  • @Gutnii Most peoples taste is derived from the crap they force feed you through radio and tv. It's like junkfood, convenient, popular, everywhere... you'd be fooling yourself thinking there's ANY quality in the mainstream. And if there is something original, marketing is quick to neuter it and change it into another formula lacking anything we could consider creativity or soul.

  • @Gutnii If you think about it, look at what The Church achieving "U2 success" might have brought. Another band downgrading their sound to American Radio Rock, staging pompous shows, Steve Kilbey starting to think he's God, and further bland music getting released which sells simply on the basis of the band's name.

They deserve success, but I'm glad they'd rather focus on being listenable. :)

  • No not Bourquebuilt.from Sherril Seavey profile.

  • I lOVE this song...always crank it when I'm at work in concert hall.Turns ALL the musicians heads..Wish they would play @ Infinity hall for sure!!!!!The deepness in Steve's voice is so soothing and makes me feel like I'm home in my mind and my heart.Today's bands ARE mostly."deep, deep without a meaning!"Thanks guys!

  • Never missed an under 18's concert by old station 3xy back then. Anyone else remember?? Took me 3 yrs on YT to re discover my all time fav Aussie band from the '80's , having a blast favouriting all their besties ;) WOOT!

  • Thanks Marcus, I am from oz but live on the coast so if it's a city station I won't get it. The best I can get is triple j...

  • I always wanted Marty Wilson-Piper to marry me!

  • Classic. Was listening to this on the headphones in my crash helmet the last time I got done for speeding- The unguarded moment. Ha Ha

  • Great song.

This week the lead singer, Steve Kilbey, pleaded guilty in local court to kicking his father in law in the nuts....

must have got him during an 'unguarded moment'.....

  • @melonhed97 classic rofl

  • AWESOME SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Church have some good songs yeaa =D

  • @MrJimmyJr

Where do they say Canberra? He says 'camera' at one point ... ?

  • one of the best 80's music!!!

  • That's some mighty guitar riffing. Best Australian band of the eighties, no contest.

  • love love love love it. thanks 4 this great retro moment ;-)

  • Bloody awesome tune. Thanks for posting it.

  • ahhhhhhh but we remember them in our hearts

  • This was the song I jammed in my head this morning in the surf. Was last night fun or what.....damn I needed those waves! Back to the hospital to see my angels.

  • 5 bieber fans disliked this gem

  • The Church were a horribly overlooked band virtually everywhere, especially North America. The Blurred Crusade, Remote Luxury, and Starfish were awesome albums filled with supercatchy songs. Steve Kilbey is one of the best and most poetic songwriters ever!

  • @hatmap saw the church in 82 great band

  • @hatmap absolutely agree,im from liverpool uk and they were underground here too..amazing band.

  • @hatmap Dont forget Heyday in that list

  • Unbelievable how The Church rivals most music they play now days...They were ahead of their time in a way, if you look at how popular Cold Play are, well it's not too disimilar...It's classic, classy, intelligent lyrics and Stylin...Excellent memories from listening to this..thanks Steve XOX <3

  • 10DE LO MEJOR.... DE

  • oz rock and youtube forever

  • This has always been a timeless song - great lyric - if it was released today it would wipe almost any song on air now.

  • @ugotmatt I totally agree with you. The Church one of the greatest bands around.

  • @ugotmatt As would any song from the 80s.. but i get your point:)

  • @ugotmatt SO true!

  • buena cancion pero no muy buena resolucion..o.k.

  • Absolutely one of my all time favourite songs! LOVE IT! Thank you xxxx

  • Australian Gems.........................

  • Long live the 80s! I'll never forget you!

  • I had dinner with Marty (and my ex who worked for them) and happened upon a nekkid Steve in an "unguarded Moment" a couple of years ago... Many smiles and wonderful guys. I will always buy anything they release. It's always good.

  • One of my all time favourites. Love the voice, music, era. Fantastic, thanks for posting the video.
