I agree 100%. Colin Firth (who I had never heard of at the time I was this movie Dec 2010) was amazing. He played the role with class and didn't make Bertie's stammer jokey or funny, because it wasn't. I can't imagine what it would be like to be someone in the public eye and having a bad stammer and a real jackass for an older brother. You gotta admire King George VI too.

Colin Firth fully deserved that oscar - people say that 127 hours actor J. Franco should've gotten it, but in my opinion Firth had a much harder and more complex role to take on, and when someone is "made" for a role - like he was - then u simply can't deny their brilliance!

@nickdarocker hey look if you watch this film, you would know there was nothing great about the film, He cant talk and he goes to a doctor but he comes to know the doctors not a doctor and they fight, make up and learn speech. and in the end what happens? he still mumbles in his mouth with slight improvement and not a ground breaking speech either (which is supposed to be the theme of the film) its stupid, not emotional, not funny plain boring

I believe part of the charm of the movie is that it depicts the world that was, a world of larger than life people whose humanism and personal moral values make them seem almost magical and remote from the point of view of this age of zombiefied education, cardboard politicians and the corporatist devaluation of the human spirit.
