  • Refusedone - the empirical/scientific method may not be the Ultimate means of understanding the Universe, but what else have we got? Isn't it more inane, dogmatic, and pretentious to rely on Faith or emotionally gratifying speculations?

  • I love ven. Ajan Brahm He is a great teacher and kind character I live in colombo

  • Hi Ajahn Brahm :), I just have to say this, it sounds like at around 23:00 on this talk, the baby in the back round seems to be imitating your tonal vocal inflections, a possible little future monk, or at least a good public speaker, <3 to you little baby. Ajahn Brahm our whole family listens to you, you have helped many people here, thank you very much <3 (It is Ajahn Malasri who showed your videos to us, he is one of only two Buddhist Chaplins in the U.S. military)

  • Metta to all :)

  • please spend an hour of your life to listen to the great wisdom of Ajahn Brahm .we are all so lucky that these talks are available to us all. i d like to wish every one love and happyness.

  • I enjoy AB's wisdom, practical advice and humor. However,I feel that his equanimity regarding death is based on a belief in reincarnation which is not sufficiently substantiated by the so-called anecdotal evidence. This basic inadequacy in dealing with humanity's primal fear is the weak link in the chain as far as Buddhism is concerned. To simply say: "Don't worry about death-you'll get a new body, just like getting a new car" strikes me as an inane & dogmatic statement of faith,w/o real proof.

  • @Alexisme1001 I don't think rebirth is some invention to help people get rid of their fear of death, this would never work because there will always be doubt in peoples minds. However buddhism does solve this "problem" by practicing egolessness, because death is not the problem, it is the ego that wants something that it cannot get (to not die). So once you get rid of the ego this imaginary problem is also gone.

  • @Maarten8867 I was addressing AB's advice not to worry about death based upon what I view as the baseless acceptance of reincarnation. I agree that there is plenty of justifiable doubt about the reincarnation doctrine. I didn't touch on theories about the ego, which is a whole other barrel of worms.

  • @Alexisme1001 How would one go about proving rebirth? To presume that the recent invention of the scientific method and direct observation of phenomena as the ultimate means of understanding the universe is inane, dogmatic, and pretentious.

  • @Alexisme1001 that's alright, you can still accept that all beings die someday, so there's no use worrying anymore because it's just a matter or time.

  • We cannot prove that reincarnation exist or do not exist very concretely using current methods of science. Buddhists use mediation to better see and deal with life. Buddhist's equanimity regarding death is about letting go, about not attaching. You cannot fight death. So, just make peace with it so that you can have a peaceful and happy death. What happens after death is another issue. But if you fight death, you are attaching and struggling, adding more pain to yourself in the dying process.

  • I have to thank you, because these videos are quite important to me. I work as a graphic, and while I work I can listen to the teachings. I really appreciate them. I do not know how to thank you, but at least I can say so.

  • A compassionate supervisor as you described is as rare as gold bullion.

  • Hmmm. I heard that Islam says kill the killer whereas buddhism says reform the killer.

  • funny ^^

  • @tigernov6 That is the personal position of most of my fellow Americans.

  • @tigernov6 I don't believe Buddhism would say REFORM the killer.. Buddhism would say compassion for all beings and forgiveness.. "reform" has to do with the killer themselves changing their own life.. not anything from the outside forcing it.

  • Can I have his email address?

Please reply to this comment with his email address.

  • you can contact BSWA on their site

  • I want it too. :P

  • He is a monk. He does not have any email.
