It's certainly not useless. You can basically use it as a wall hack. Bind it to a key, get close to the edge of a building, and you can look down, or even around a corner without exposing yourself.

My computer cost $600 (the monitor I bought separate because I like'em big). I can run L4D on max settings and stick a solid 60 fps no problem.

This video isn't even about how good their team did. It's about how they had a bunch of fun at a LAN and wanted to make a video about it.

In most games, PC vs Xbox would lead to a PC victory. Not necessarily because of worse playing, but because of system-related handicaps on the side of the Xbox. A mouse is just astronomically more accurate than the thumsticks. I have played L4D on Xbox and PC... PC players definitely have the edge.
