i've been a long time Rush fan. ever since i was 2 years old in 1977. i still listen to them til this very day. but Geddy's voice is really gone to hell hasn't it? case in point THE CAMERA EYE from this show. i picked up the vinyl pressing of Live Moving Pictures, and i almost wish i didn't. The one song that's been a #1 has been removed from that spot after hearing the live version. it's no wonder Geddy dosent want to sign those songs anymore, cuz he can't! sorry to say. but he's admitted that.
RUSH is and has always been one of the best bands live and in the studio. These three extremely talented guys are a perfect example of being at the right time and the right place...BUT NEVER getting too comfortable with anything. They kept pushing themselves in order to create better music for themselves and hope that those listening like it as much as they do.
Too bad the music business has long since changed the way it works and we have crap like Lady Gaga selling out concerts in the USA.
Seen them with the stupid clothes dryer routine, retarded dumb, they are just too over done. The sound has no soul, it's overly produced, glaring and cold. Can't get into em....glassy hard sounding, no soul.
So many albums, but the sound is all the same, there is no variety. How come the Beatles had SOUNDS always new. these guys get rather monotonous.. And Way over complicated sound, not clean, and usually lousy recordings. The drummer is a goof, with all that over done kit. Needless. Not wowed by em, they is just OK. Too complicated, too much flash and needless stuff.
@cengeb Are you talking about Korn? When I discovered Rush, there were only some 3 or 4 albums I really listened to. But after giving their music much more time I was just take in all the sublte and not so sublte music they've made. Now a question: Rush monotonous? If you don't like the long prog songs, that's okay. Their style has changed a lot over the years. They're anything but monotonous, but they do have their own distinct sound. If you don't like Rush, bugger off and listen to Metallica.
@cengeb I think your mom dropped you one time too many, bro. I don't think you've actually turned your ear to the music and have just gone by what Rolling Stone says about them. Rush has changed a lot since Rush and Fly By Night. Vapor Trails is an exception for the lousy recording part. The mixing engineer screwed that up, but still a damn good album. Rush has made it their priority to remake their songs live to a T instead of playing something that sounds like it on tour.
@cengeb Neil Peart is anything but goofy with his big drum set. I think you need to actually listen to his drum solos. He uses the entire kit, not only in his drum solos, but also in their songs. I've seen them 4 times live (21 years old) but I've seen their early shows and what I notice is that with all the bands they opened for and toured with (i.e.: KISS, UFO, Aerosmith), they have never focused on a "wow factor show" with pyro and stages. They give you the music as the show.
@cengeb I personally don't see anything too flashy with their shows. The flashiest they will go is coming up with a weird inside joke and make that their stage setup (like the driers or the sausage machine), a weird or funny video to go with a song, or the occasional pyro bit. And to tell the truth, these guys are in their mid-late 50's and are coming up with stuff to entertain people who from 80 all the way down to elementary school! Sellout? No. The same? No. Progressive? Yes. Good show? Yes.
50 YEARS YOUNG... HAVE SEEN THEM 49 TIMES LIVE OVER THE YEARS, STARTING WITH THE 'A FAREWELL TO KINGS TOUR' IN 1977... NYC, JERSEY, MASS, PENNSYLVANIA, AND OHIO... WHY AM I 'YELLING'?? LOL
Why is everyone still playing the role of the "poor persecuted Rush fan"? Look at them! Their concert video crowd shots are of pretty girls and super geeks wearing fake Geddy noses and aprons with foam drum sticks! My God! Their even on the same label now as Nickelback. "They might be the coolest band in the world"? Gimme a f*****g break! How many more live albums do we need? Dirk, Lerxst and Pratt have gotten a taste and now it's over. Lifeson is my hero, but the clubhouse has been invaded....
@lifesonfan Do you think Geddy, Alex and Neil were the camera operators? Do you think they were those who filmed the shots and picked them for the DVD? No.
I agree some of the shots on the video are a little bit disappointing. IMO the Snakes & Arrows DVD looks better than this, in terms of filming and sound, but this new DVD still looks awesome with the amazing setlist.
P.S If you don't like live albums, don't watch them (or go get the S&A DVD, it will blow your mind).
@ManOffTTC I assure you I have every bit of media they have ever released plus many boots, books, posters etc etc. Geddy's brother Allen produces all their live stuff and Alex and Geddy are involved in the audio, So yes, they pick the shots and have the final say. I do agree the setlist is great. But it feels like for the first time in the history of Rush, they are releasing something to the public with the sole intention to commercialize. Therefore, "shattering the illusion of integrity"....
@lifesonfan Just listen to the song "Hooker With a Penis" by Tool. "I've sold out long before you've never even heard my name. I sold my soul to make a record, dip shit, and they you bought one". Right? Everything that sells is by definition commercial, no matter how "alternative" it is or sounds. The integrity is in playing music that you feel like playing, even changing with the times. There is really no integrity in the music industry, don't be foolish. Everyone sells out. It's a job.
@lifesonfan He did what he did. And he sold albums, he sold tickets. Why? Because he had something special. Perhaps he didn't make music primarily to sell and make money. But I bet that he was no fool. He got paid, and that's a good thing. So in a way, yes, even FZ sold out. Because the line is thin between the so called "integrity" and actually getting paid for what you are doing.
I had watched approx. two-hours of this performance on VH1 Classic a few weeks ago. If you have any doubts about a solid performance - rid them now. Better than 'Snakes & Arrows [Live]' for sure - they're playing up to speed again even!
Looking forward to this as I was there. I've seen every Cleveland concert since 1982. The 30th anniversary tour was by far the best performance and set list ever. This band is way overdue for a rock hall induction. I also met Geddy Lee. My bucket list is getting shorter. Keep on rockin' guys!
I was lucky enough to see them at Manchester in May at the M.E.N and they brought the house down with that show - absolutely flawless 3 hour+ performance.
As someone who has been to this tour, the moving pictures stuff is really freaking awesome. Listening to them play that album in its entirety is one of the highlights of my life.
Is really cool that musician such as Rush are still Rocking as hard as they did when they started. Hope that this can inspire others musicians to keep music as an art form generated by true passion!
I was there for the whole show in Cleveland and it is the best concert one will ever see in their entire lives. Jut go see this in the movies or on DVD. Either way, one will be satisfied! Proud Rush fan and a FEMALE Rush fan if I can add that! :D
I will never forget this day as long as I live!!! took 4 days off, drove from pittsburgh to cleveland bout 120 miles, just so me and my friends could have bragging rights saying that we saw rush get filmed for a DVD and it was the best rush show by far!! I'm 21 and I can't fuckin play as good as these near 60 year old gods live.....
I saw them twice on the Time Machine tour & cannot wait to get my hands on this. They are the best rock trio of all time & the fact that they have been passed over by the so called Rock & Roll Hall of Fame...again is a travesty. The likes of Madonna & Run DMC (who are not ROCK acts) are included is crazy! Their 1st album was released in 1974. They should have been in the HoF like 12 YEARS AGO!!!
RUSH have been my fave band for 30 years and being a chick, I can say RUSH is not just a guys band! TIME MACHINE tour was one of the best I've seen, and I haven't missed a tour since 1981!!!!!!!! RUSH RULES!~

This and Neil Peart's new DVD is gonna be off the hook. What a great tour, and I'm glad I could see it in person last summer! Can't wait to see what they bring out when they tour Clockwork Angels.
Sweet! I got to see them in T.O and in the Hammer for two shows on this tour, by far, without question, the best band I have had the honor to see live!

Time Machine is by far the best tour of the four I have been to. Rush just keeps getting better.

This and Neil Peart's new DVD is gonna be off the hook. What a great tour, and I'm glad I could see it in person last summer! Can't wait to see what they bring out when they tour Clockwork Angels.
