Its Tuvan not Tuban, and your dont need to grab your throat, the low pitch is created by vibrating the ventricular folds, or "false vocal folds" not by your vocal chords, which are singing a pitch that is within comfortable range.

@cmak5 - They used a recording of Brian Grover (aka imnotelmo) from his khoomei crash course. He and I have discussed the scene, and he believes the throat grab was used as a visual cue to the sound engineer to begin playing the recording. Makes perfect sense to me.

As a throat singer, I have mixed feelings about this clip. While I am happy to see Tuvan throat singing mentioned on a prime time show, a few things kind of bother me about it: Why is he grabbing his throat? You don't grab your throat when you throat sing. And that is a darn good kargyraa. Seems to me he has already mastered it.

@blackops2490 It is always nice when strangers tell you what you do and don't know. Thank you. It's a good thing for people like me that they have a laugh track so I know when the jokes are.

I find that jokes are funnier if they contain some truth. Most Americans know nothing about throat singing, so they would not know he sounded great and therefore the joke worked for them. It didn't work for me because I know he was wrong. I know that I am in the minority, and that's fine with me.

But I believe when Sheldon was singing very good and he said he would be better if he had time to practice that was supposed to be the funny part, and I think that most americans knew that he sounded like he mastered the throat singing. Thats just what im trying to point out. Everything else i understand, like how you said like why the heck is he grabbing his throat, you are a throat singer and you would know that.
