What's funny is that usually someone will mistake the Common Snapping Turtle in the US and call it an alligator snapping turtle. This is the first time I've seen the mistake the other way around. The information up top says "common snapper" but most certainly this is the alligator snapping turtle. Looks like a female, the shape of her shell and she's dense for her size, she's old. I'd say it stays pretty cold in that area? Or she didn't grow fast when she was kept in captivity.

I only live 2 minutes from here, someone told me there was a big snapper in the lakes!
Just so you know, if he had got hold of your finger then it wouldve either mangled it or took it off!
