So, yes, there is a possibility that it could be shot for approaching cars. The difference with the bear killing someone is that I'm sure the person wasn't in their car driving and a bear busted through their window. The person was most likely hiking or walking the trails, and didn't bring bear mace or other such precautions.

That was an entirely too confident black bear that approached the car on his own volition... The bad news is that the bear is obviously very comfortable with approaching and investigating things associated with humans and this does not bode well for the bear's future. Too bad there wasn't a way to haze the bear away from the car and back into the woods... Perhaps honking and a blast of bear spray but that could have been too risky as well.

I would have honked the car horn to get the bear away from the car. I might even have sprayed it with bear spray through an open window if I could have done it safely. You don't want to let a bear (black bear in this case) get too comfortable around people or cars. Once a bear becomes acclimatized, it might be destroyed.
Although he was probably curious and harmless, I find this stupidly dangerous. In these incidences, you drive away and keep your distance or honk and get the bear to keep its distance. That window could have been smashed in no time.

Very risky. Have you folks not seen these bears rip open car doors like the metal is made in China? Anyone that frequents Sequoia and Yellowstone, or Yosemite etc. has multiple "war" stories and would never allow the bear to appraise the car. I do not believe the people were any different from a person camping in the forest...(in A tent I believe)..they are there..in a spot in the park...the bear was curious...people and animals will always co exist. If you cook food over a fire the bear will come...they are just to used to people now in general. .I am a Prof of Biology at Osaka Unv Osaka Japan...I spent 4 years researching Animals in Wyoming and Montana..also Dinali NP. Very risky. Have you folks not seen these bears rip open car doors like the metal is made in China? Anyone that frequents Sequoia and Yellowstone, or Yosemite etc. has multiple "war" stories and would never allow the bear to appraise the car. One whiff of a marshmallow and bam, knocked out window, bear jumps in you guys are getting mauled. All cause you wanted to see the purdy bear. You may be lucky 100 times and then killed on 101.
Not worth it in my mind. They have the worst breath. lol

The bear's behavior is so unnatural. It is obvious that he has been fed and lost his fear of humans. The best thing these people could have done is to have scared him away. Sadly, when some fool is "attacked" by a bear seeking food, the bear will be euthanized. "A fed bear is a dead bear."
