The audience is not real. They are all paid actors. There are specific rules about what they can and cannot wear. In fact, I imagine there are more than just this one particular lady who have been in the "audience" a million times. It's not a real court, Judge Judy is more actor than Judge these days, and the reality is that it's just binding arbitration. And what's with all the new york imagery when the thing is filmed in Californoia? Also, the show pays for the "losers" damages.
