  • Can anyone explain the joke about Tom Delonge from Blink being able to make better pickslides then Bill? I mean being a fan of Blink Tom does pickslides all the time and sound pretty gnarly most times... or is the joke that a member of a pop-punk band can do them better?

  • @RevolverKat pickslides dont have any musical value whatsoever

  • @topdog2328 Technically speaking maybe but they sound nice when used right... doesn't really answer my question though seeing as Mastodon uses them too.

  • @RevolverKat Probably because Bill sat there and recorded like 50 and Blink probably does one and moves along.

  • @oooouie I doubt that seeing as how Blink take more time on their albums than Mastodon does. Not to say one is better than the other but Blink is known for taking their time.

  • @RevolverKat Probably the first pop punk band that came to mind then.

  • wish my guitar could sound like 1:30!!

  • Brann reminds me of Harland Williams.

  • what song was playin at 3:32

  • I JUST WANNA PROCLAIM MY MASTO-LOVE TO EVERYONE ON THIS PLANET!!!

  • Mastodon is MEN music, MUSIC FOR MEN

  • Do you know if their recordings are "Live' or not?

  • DAT GUITARRR

  • What's the song called at 1:30 where Brent is like why does my guitar sound like that

  • Shriners hat what

  • mastodon is a very talented band one of the best in metal. It's annoying when all kids think is good is chelsea grin and bmth

  • fuck growing up!

  • lol "king crimson is destroying my life"

  • captions made me rofl for 2 hours

  • I was largely disappointed when that Fez was not part of the merch. I'd love a Mastodon Fez!

  • These are the kind of people that deserve a reality show. They're actually entertaining.

  • @3.09 what song is this riff from?

  • Comment removed

  • Metallica didn't revolutionize metal. They got lucky. There were plenty of other bay area and East coast thrash bands that could've gotten lucky and made it big like Metallica.

  • "King Crimson is destroying my mind right now." lol I've felt that way on many occasions

  • @wildcatrunning yeah, once i was tripping and listened KC "cat food" like 20 times in a row :D

  • Bill is hilarious.

  • "i was tongue punchin the dirt star" looool

  • King Crimson FUCK YEAH!

i hear KC in some parts of mastodon... a great influence on a great new band!

  • @bon3z0r Yeah. Especially in some riffs of the last baron!

  • haha Bill's wearing a Dethklok shirt. fuckin awesome!

  • 1:50 that tone gave me a boner

  • wats the song at 1:30

  • @chewy3396 It's This Mortal Soil

  • Blood Mountain will be looked back on in years to come as a masterpiece.

  • lol nice fez 0:10

  • Mastadon IS...Brent ......

  • Lol. Fucking weirdos. Love this band. Crack the skye = one of my fav albums ever.

  • "Sounds like a wolf got loose"

    hahaha

  • Thats a nice Silverburst V

  • Why not Bill, Brann Dailor? WHY??

  • lol, Brent Hinds = B. Hinds, lol..

  • such a unique bad ass on the guitar

  • i want his hat.

  • Metallica was great for their time... but Bob Rock was when they phoned it in. "Turn the Page" was their Bon Jovi moment like ... "Dead or Alive" ... how exhausting it is being a rock star. I was half expecting them to cover "Like A Rock" for a Chevy commercial.

I thought maybe Brendan O'Brien would do the same thing to Mastodon, but Skye is a cool record. The mix on the drums is a little weak, that's my only complaint. They could have easily done a harder, faster Blood Mountain.

  • 3:17-3:27?

  • *stops playing* "why does my guitar sound like that??.. it sounds awesome!"

engineer: "its sounded like that for the last hour.."

  • Only 4 secs in the whole vid for Brann and Troy??? That should be illegal

  • Is it me, or does Brent Hinds seem to have the voice and sense of humor as Chris Farley?

  • Hm, whats the deal with the shriners stuff? are any of them masons and or shriners? Either way I dig it!

  • dude if brent and bill got the same hairstyle for a day theyd look almost exactly the same.

  • "king crimson is fucking destroying my life right now" lmao

  • "and the award for best pick slide goes too...the guy from blink 182 not bill" lmfao

  • The thing about Metallica is that nobody was playing like them when they started (Cliff Burton's bass solos?). It's the same with Mastodon- the first time we saw them was about 10 years ago at a DIY show at VFW hall. These guys just game out and blew everyone away. These guys didn't sound like anybody else.

  • "it's like tongue punchin the dirt star!" brent hinds is fuckin hilarius!

  • Brent Hinds in a Fez, WOW

  • 1:30 lol

  • I wonder what their shirts had on them?

  • This stuff is the heavy version of Mars Volta. I enjoy them so much!

  • Haha. Man, these guys are the best.

    Love Bills bow/arrow thing.

  • awesome fuckin band!

  • Brent Hinds makes me laugh for reasons I don't even know

  • "TUNG PUNCH THE DIRT STAR"

  • Comment removed

  • @greeborhys Cool.

Does anyone know what type of SG that is that he's playin'?

  • it's an SG... sunburst...

  • mortal soil

  • haha stoners

  • @SuperGreenbuds They're actually not that big on weed in this band. Except for Brett Hinds, none of the rest of them smoke much I'm told. They'll get down with some hallucinogens though, for sure.

  • hahahahaha Brann at the end

  • :27 I want that hat

  • 1:28 :D

  • whats the song of 3:09 and 3:16

i got the album, but i cant remember those riffs

  • Hand of stone

  • u serious? wtf wow i listen to that all the time, i got one shit memory

  • probs lol i have a really good memory for remembering song names from a few notes /riffs

  • :38 nice brent nice

  • what is bill doing when he's lsitening 2 the recording lol

  • "I was tongue-punching the dirt-star"

    LMAO

    I fucking love Brent.

  • has he sahved a bit of his hair?

  • 0:53 > "Level Five" - King Crimson

  • omg i just heard the song cos of you and its freaking awesome

  • 1:29 - 1:30

    awesome!

    AGH!

  • Best guitar player in the world FULL STOP.

  • "And the grammy for best pickslide goes to... the guy from Blink 182, and not Bill" lol. That is great.

  • Mastodon is the only band of all time that rivals Metallica in greatness.

  • I would have to disagree, because I dislike Metallica. Tbh, I don't see why everything thinks Metallica is so great. I would say Mastodon is better than Metallica, at least in my opinion.

  • I agree with you. Metallica is kinda outdated.

  • @SaivNosevi the reason why everyone thinks metallica is so great is because they revolutionized heavy metal

i mean without them you wudnt have alot of the bands today. So you can think that mastodon is better because that is your opinion but you gotta respect metallica and the other big bands such as slayer or megadeth for opening those doors for newer bands

  • @LucasChiasson31 Don't forget about Anvil.

  • @LucasChiasson31 Dude i get where your coming from and everything and dont get me wrong when isay this, i fucking love metallica and slayer and stuff but i think most people will agree when i say Mastodon probably would have been just as breathtaking and astounding even if any of the big four didnt exist!

  • @LucasChiasson31 I don't have to respect them for shit. If you're gonna pull that card, you have to thank Robert Johnson and Son House for metal too, and that's just plain silly. How far back do you have to keep respecting people? Do we owe a whole lot to the guy first banged a rock a on another rock in time? I think Mastodon is better than Metallica. That's my opinion, and despite your opinion, I don't have to attribute Mastodon's awesomeness to anyone other than Mastodon.

  • very true. by his system, no new artists post metallica get the credit they deserve because it automatically goes to metallica. kinda lame.

  • @LucasChiasson31 i only respect metallica for thier older stuff I think they sold out big time... i mean they used to be thrashtastic

  • @SaivNosevi Mastodon, nor any of these newer metal bands would be what they are without the Metallica influence. The reason why Mastodon sounds better than Metallica to you is because Metallica regressed over this past decade, while Mastodon has taken alot of what Metallica established in the 80s and progressed it further. But make no mistake, Metallica forged this generation of metal 25-30 years ago. Without them, this may never have existed. bPay homage where it is due....

  • @WarmothGuitarist everybody knows this, no need to write a paragraph about it.

  • @PeI2PeTuaLMoTioN As you can see, this was a respone to someone who obviously did not know this. You don't even fully understand what I'm talking about. I remember when Metallica was still rising from the underground. Master of Puppets, AJFA, Ride the Lightning. I remember all of those albums as a kid. My brother constantly played 'em. The Black album was when they finally broke through to the mainstream. That was around the time you were born. Mastadon wouldn't be Mastadon without Metallica...

  • @SaivNosevi Mastodon is pure shit in my opinion.. Metallica actually has meaning things being said with amazing music backing it with the same vibe. Metallica started your hurtin type of music which is filling today

  • @Klyons92 You think Mastodon doesn't have meaning? Wow, that's a very uneducated statement. Crack the Skye was a CONCEPT album, meaning, the whole album was based on something, MEANS something. Hell, all of their albums have deep themes that are rooted into the albums. If you read the lyrics or look up on the subject you are talking about, you would know that. The whole Leviathan album was based on the book Moby Dick. Blood Mountain is about the wolfman's journey up Blood Mountain, and all the

  • @Klyons92 challenges that he over comes when he gets to the top of the mountain. It's deep meaning is of having the strength to overcome obstacles in your way, what ever the situation it is that you are in.

  • @Klyons92 - " . . . started your hurtin type of music . . . " is a totally false statement. Mastodon being pure shit is your opinion, in which I disagree with you, since their most recent album "Crack the Skye" is one of the best in the past decade. Metallica's first five albums are undeniably amazing, and the albums after that being okay. As for emotion put into Mastodon's album . . . . uh, "Skye" was the name of Brann's sister who died at a very young age. There is some meaning.

  • @Cerrente

I personally think all Metallica sucks. Even thier early stuff. Just boring "family metal" Imo.

  • @BrutalGrindCoreMetal - Cool, I respect your opinion for not liking them. But you gotta acknowledge that without Metallica, Mastodon most likely wouldn't exist in the fashion that they do today. Black Sabbath set the foundation, and Metallica (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer as well) really popularized that style of music. Also, Master of Puppets is like . . . the greatest metal album of all time, next to Reign in Blood - and the most influential.

  • @Cerrente

Nah. Reign in blood is much better than MoP I think. And no I disagree. I hate when people say that metal would not exist without Black sabbath and Metallica and stuff. Cos thats riduclous.

  • @BrutalGrindCoreMetal - Reign in Blood is really fast. But MoP is fast, but also has the genius of Cliff Burton, which is why that album is so influential. Also, metal wouldn't be in its present form without Sabbath, such as Pop wouldn't be in its current form without MJ. You are influenced by everything you hear. In an interview with Brett and Brann, they list the top 5 riffs of all time - one of them being MoP. In an interview with Brent, he says that Crack the Skye is their Black Album (orLZ4

  • @BrutalGrindCoreMetal i concur

  • @SaivNosevi right now, yes they are better... but no one could touch Metallica in the 90's.

  • @SaivNosevi see i like metallica, but mastodon is better!

  • @killmeandit Why would you compare them to Metallica? there both on whole different Levels.

  • @10thmaggot

Yes. With mastadon being 10 times better and more creative.

  • Metallica sucks major ass, Mastodon already topped them

  • @89alltime Mastadon has already topped Metallica? Are you fuckin' kidding? Mastadon is an incredible band, but in no way, shape, or form have they even come close to the groundbreaking work that Metallica did...much less "topped" 'em. I haven't been a Metallica fan since the whole Napster thing, but it doesn't change the fact that Mastadon will probably never even touch Metallica's status in the metal world.

  • @WarmothGuitarist Metallica isn't metal. They're hard rock, or thrash. And sure, they have been around for a long time, but I don't think they ever became the band that Mastodon has. Metallica has been slowly declining through their career, growing more mainstream with each album. Mastodon is doing nothing but getting better and exploring different musical territory. Sure, I do love Metallica and have listened to them my whole life, but they don't compare to Mastodon anymore, IMO.Not bein a dick

  • @LanceSaunders I agree Metallica isn't metal...anymore. Nor will Mastadon be when they truly hit the mainstream. Just look at Slipknot and Mudvayne. Not that they were "metal" in the traditional sense of the word, but they are not even near as heavy as they were when they were underground. That's what happens when bands make it on the radio and TRL lovin' kids get a hold of it. I'm not hating... I just don't think Mastadon will ever achieve the status that Metallica once held. They were king...

  • @WarmothGuitarist Yeah, true that man. Only time will tell.

  • @LanceSaunders Now, with all of the aforemention said... I do hope an incredibly talented and heavy band, such as Mastadon, can rise to the top, yet without changing their style or image to fit the mainstream. We need some heavy music in the world...in order to flush out bands like Theory of a Deadman and Shinedown. We need another rock revolution like we had in the early 90's. One in which bands don't go to the mainstream...but the mainstream goes to the bands. We can only hope...

  • Metallica fucking sucks.

  • so does your face!haha

  • what are you, 12?

  • Im 12 and wat is this

  • Shove a dildo.

  • you dont have to be 12 to be amused..lol
