Every movie needs a villain and the villain in this movie is the MOTHER! you don't leave your children to go chase after some jerk! Their mother stunk! I actually love the movie because of the two little girls... who are PHENOMENAL in it. I've seen it a few times. I try to be hard as nails but these girls have me choking up every time I just see them on screen. And every time little Bin just says any word at all, especially when she says "sis"...I could cry. This movie affected me.
Just saw this movie in NYC. If it still qualifies for an Oscar in 2010, it should be nominated. This movie was an emotional masterpiece. The two children were genuine and loved every second of this movie.
Just came back from watching the movie in New York, at the end the Director took questions, basically repeated what she says in this clip. Loved the movie, the 2 girls are AMAZING. Having been a foster mom, I almost broke down at the scene of the mother departure. My daughter has experience that at age 2 with her biological mother and it was heartbreaking. I wish the mother had come back before the end of the movie.
You'll be lucky to find it. Unless you have a Korean FIlm Festival near you. If you're in UK then it will be showing on 8th November at The Barbican in London.
this lady is a great film maker. watch her movies if you can. treeless mountains was such a poignant movie. i cried wen the little girl asked her piggy bank wen will her mom come back home. their mom left them and told them she will be back wen piggy bank is filled up with money.

Is this the same director who made "In Between Days?" I liked that film very much!

Yes it is. I also loved "In Between Days". One of my favorite films. :-)
"Treeless Mountain" will be screened at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2009.
