Amazing how this is such old news --- and World Expos are now HUGE events all over the world and great successes. The 2010 Shanghai Expo was the most attended in history. The smaller 2008 Spain Expo was a huge success. The 2015 Milan World's Fair is expected to be the best in history .... some day America will be a great place again and host one of the new century Expos ---
I believe the media ... was MORE to blame for the attendance problems at the Louisiana World Exposition ... I say this because ... I went to the LWE several times ... 6-8 times ... and everytime I attended ... the Fair was PACKED with many, many people ... Similar to the crowds I've seen at Disney World and AstroWorld ... It was an INCREDIBLE Exposition ... I, like many, were hoping it would stay ... But once the "mud slinging " started ... everyone jumped on board.
Thanks for posting this. I was 14 when the fair ran and I have nothing but fond memories. I never heard about its failure and this was the first time I heard about it. New Orleans just shrugged it off, and the fair did transform the Warehouse district. Before the fair Camp and Julia was horrific and now it is filled with great galleries, bars, apartments, the convention center, the River Walk and the insectarium.
now i realize why new orleans is so fucked up, the people just dont care about nothin but themselves,i dont think they should have ever even got a football team either thats why it took them so long to get to the superbowl
Thanks for the video. I was 5 years old in 1984 and going to the world's fair is a very distant memory. I had no idea what was really going on back then.

26 years later, people look fondly at the world's fair... and New Orleans is better off having held it. It transformed downtown.
