Comparing with the Sigma 150mm F2.8 Macro with Canon 100mm L F2.8, any comments on it ? Was sitting whole day at home watching non stop of your videos, love it!
@mackidd51 depend on your pocket and what you want to do with it :D sigma 150 may cost a bit more but you have longer working distance. the sigma's 150mm macro's quality is just a little less then a canon lens :) there is also an alternative if you want to save money for ring flash which is absolute needed. You can buy the tamron 180mm macro :) good result for good money :))
@rongthienco thank you so much! Hope you don't mind if I ask another question, my Camera is a crop sensor, 60D, 150mm will it be too far for me? Tamron so far my friends around me recommended me SP90
@mackidd51 depend on what you want to do with macro lens. 180mm is indeed to much for product or flower but it is well enough for bugs, such as bee or butterfly. 60~100mm is more fitting for flower and product. Since you have a crop sensor 180x 1.5= 270mm. The focal length for a macro is nothing but working distance. with 180mm you can achieve a 1:1 magnification at a longer working distance, such as~30cm compared to ~10cm when using 60mm macro lens
@saralsth No. When you're talking about macro lenses used for macrophotography, the focal length has more to do with the working distance than anything else. Shorter lenses mean you need to be closer to the subject to get the same magnification (and all 1:1 macro lenses will produce the same sized image on the sensor at their closest focus distance). They will be different with general-purpose photography -- the 150 won't provide the same perspective for the same framing for portraits, etc.
@tapasmallick the best over all its nikon whit out question but its the expensive one ... buy try second hand pawn shops ebay.... after that go for the sigma, the cheaper its tamron
great review!! constructive criticisms in reviews!!! much better and more honest!!!! now these reviews are getting more enjoyable to watch!! fyi, based off your last review on the tamron 70-300mm vc, i picked it up and im very happy with it! bought it at adorama of course!
Hmm strange, for the first 2 lenses, you adviced the lenses to consumers based on the features. But the 120-300, you reviewed it as if you were the consumer.
I have the Sigma 24-70/2.8 EX and the Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX. At about half the price of the comparable Canon L lenses I would highly recommend both of these lenses. Sigma is best known for their wide ranging zoom focal lengths. Look also at their 10-20mm/3.5 EX, this will be my next lens!
Great review Mark. Thanks for sharing! Would love to see a comparison of all the 17-55mm ƒ2.8 (or similar) from all of the different lens/camera makers.
Great review on these sigmas Id buy them all. I have the 8-16mm I love the review. Mark you really make reviews so tasty Adorama should have lots more sales. I have a quick question what would be a nice aperture lens instead of the 18-200 f 6.3?..just curious...and again I do no see the link to the site (Adorama)..regards...O
Back in the 90's, when I managed a camera store, I did some tests of manufacturer lenses vs 3rd party lenses and found that back then the 3rd party lenses had a slight greenish color cast. Almost all of them were slightly slower than the manufacturer's lens also, ie their t-stop was lower by 1/3 to 1/2 a stop. Have you, or anyone out there, found this to be the case with current 3rd party lenses?
I know that my question could be perceived as rude.. but it was not my attention ... I just wanted to know... so .. to me... bokeh.. sounded like boka ... That was all... I hope that Mark can answere what it is.. despite my poorly written question....
Because if I dont ask.. well - I will be not getting an aswere...
Got it? or ... still my spelling sucks... well.. sorry for not beeing born in an English talking country!
@baiaz66 Bokeh is indeed adapted from the Japanese term Boke for the background blur in photos.
Some photographers have started using special kits or DIY-ed their own custom shaped hoods in an almost pinhole style fashion to create unique shaped designs of light sources in the background.
Sorry Mark but I really think you are more promoting Sigma here then giving a review.
For instance compare the 300 2.8L with the sigma on the-digital-picture, (ISO 12233) and you really can't say it is therific. Or the quality loss at 200mm of the 18-200. Don't get me wrong I really like every thing you are doing. But you are only giving positive feedback and nearly never negative.

Mark: I am planning to buy a 55-300 or 70-300mm zoom lens (Nikon/Tamron/Sigma). Could you please suggest one considering price?
Thanks in advance.

@oevt Thank you - Yes - I am from Norway - and lives in Oslo. But original from Bergen. the west coast of Norway.
Do you know what bokeh is?
baiaz66 2 months ago
@baiaz66 I did reply on the mail hope it gets to you. I will add it here from my own point of view...
Bokeh is the japanese word used on photography for the dof (depth of field) that you find very useful on wide aperture lenses 2.8 and bigger.
So the 'bokeh' produces some sort of cicles or squares or softens the background dependind on the glass built.
Hope it worked for you
regards
