Doesn't matter that its air cooled. Its a journal bearing Turbo and it needs lubrication. I wouldn't buy this shit. Especially after this video. Good job.
You people are stupid, saying that doing this is going to damage it. No it will not. First of all, the speed at which it is running by the air compressor he's using is only a fraction of what it will be running. Secondly, the oil and coolant in turbochargers is to prevent damage from heat while running at high speeds. And lastly, he only did it for less than a minute. Chill.
They're going to come with assembly lube from the factory and there's no heat from the exhaust going into it. Also, it's running open so no load either.
@CarpathianCarl look at how fast the compressor stops spinning, the lube they use to assemble it isnt good enough to lubricate when you force compressed air into the turbine. its still spinning with no oil being fed to it. not to mention it is a journal bearing turbo so it requires a lot of oil to operate properly. its called friction and the load is the boost that it is making, may not be very much but its enough to hurt the shaft. at least its only a 100 dollar turbo lol
@testiclesackticle your fucking retarded if turbo's were developed to run off of pneumatic than it would be fine but they were specifically built with oil control rings and passages for that oil to cool and lubricate the turbo you fucking jackass. if that impeller wheel spins it needs lubrication regardless of how hot it is.
@Jlizel did you get your feelings hurt or something? jesus. and last time i checked that comment wasnt even targeted towards you. good job failing in ettiquite and knowledge.
@freddyeg1 He does this on all his turbos before he sells them to "test" them... Thats why they always shatter lol. < It's a joke for you certain people

Don't worry guys. This turbo is air cooled. No need for water/oil. And this is definitely not going to damage the turbo. Not at all...

Would it do any damage since its not really under pressure & no heat, or is it the mere lack of lubrication that is the problem?

now start up that car with no oil in it also, show how good they both run with no lubrication... idiots i tell ya.
