  • this is amazing!

  • NICE!!!

  • This is my favorite of their routines too :)

  • that was so cool :D good work ladies

  • Four years of fighting in the pom category to be who we were and maintain our style finally paid off with this win.

Man this was a fun routine to teach. So many pom switches though. The technical side of them was enough to drive me insane.

  • How big is this highschool - they have so much talent !

  • that was good and all,

but where are the jumps?? turns?? kickline??

  • ...in routines that feature those things!

  • what is the name of that song?

  • see description =)

  • did they win first place or something because i love their routine and music

  • This is my FAVORITE SW Pom routine! and I loved the drill one from this year too!

  • AAMAAZZINGGG!!!!

  • DAMn that was something else. Nice job!!!

  • I can see why this routine took first! Great job ladies!

  • love it cant stop watching it, go crystal :)

  • how many different dividions are there in WA?

  • if you mean among school sizes, there's 1A/2A/3A (usually combined) and 4A.

if you mean categories, there's pom, drill, dance, kick, prop and hiphop.

  • holy in MN we only have two.. jazz and kick

  • que lindo , bien coordinado estuvo, excelente!!!

  • What is the first song?

  • Groove Coverage - Are You Ready

  • THIS IS SOOO FREAKING AWESOME!!!

  • OMG I can't believe we won pom for the first time with this routine (and that I was a part of it), almost makes me cry every time I watch it. Miss ya girls! GO SW!

  • where r u guys from?

  • Shorewood High School

    Shoreline, WA, USA

  • AMAZING! Your choreographer needs to come to our school, soon.

  • is it me or someone threw a pom in the middle of the routine?

  • yeah there were some extra poms they had to get rid of at one point.

  • Again, Jpistoff, Just Amazing, i wish we had drill/Pom or even any cool School Activity here.

And again, i Love this music, can't find this remix anywhere though.

coz it's two songs combined, Are You ready in first part and the second part is The End by Groove Coverage.

IF you could help me obtain the music from the vid, i would be eternally gratefull.

    thx, greetings from Belgium

  • All I have to say is that routine was absolutely amazing! And I love the formation change at the end. Very cool!

  • I just absolutely love this! I wish we had a drill team in the UK! *cries*

  • Its Very Rare To Find Things That Are An Absolute Pleasure 2 Watch .....

Ive Fond One Of Them :D

    x

  • music doesnt like you

  • j suis la seule francaise a m exprimer!!lol ca clak j adore! j orai voulu vivre aux etats unis juste pour etre pom pom!!

  • i really liked this.

  • im sorry but i dont really like the music

  • It helps that they have like 40 girls on the team. Pom is impresive but it looks the same team to team. I prefer dance because its more original and diverse. Plus, student sections like dance more than pom.

  • it is also interesting to note that on my high school's drill/pom team, we rejected many talented dancers with strong dance backgrounds during tryouts because they could not complete movements with our sharpness and precision--it looked too "flowy" and did not meet drill standards for execution. proof that dance technique is not always better and that styles are difficult to compare; judges grade technique based on its strength/suitability for the style you choose to perform.

  • this routine is an example of "drill-style" pom as opposed to "dance-style" pom. perhaps if you watched routines from the WIAA drill and dance categories, you will notice the difference of styles. the pom category in washington showcases teams of each style.

  • what state is this in? im from iowa and our pom category is WAY different from this. we do typical pom movements with jumps, turns, and kicks. there's no way this team would've placed at Iowa State Dance/Drill Competition.

  • Washington. Different strokes for different folks.

  • That's the thing. In Washington, most all of the pom teams competeing use jumps, turns, and kicks. The reason everyone is criticizing Shorewood for their first place win is because they did not have those techniques present in this routine. Which makes it even more clear that when washington judges evaluate these routines, they don't look specifically at the prescence of dance technique.

  • What Shorewood Drill has that most teams don't is quite simply a PRESENCE which transcends the perimeter of Shorewood High School, blazingly apparent no matter where/when they perform. I'm not so certain Shorewood couldn't hold their own at pom competitions in other states. Their style and impeccable synchronization would stand out for sure. And as awalkinthepark pointed out, it's not like they didn't receive a higher score than all the competent and talented 'dancey-er' pom teams in WA in 2006.

  • Of course, this is just a mere spectator's perspective.

  • You girls did great with this pom routine. You were all synchronised and the visul affects were awesome. Good Job! Cant wait to see you all again.

Oh, and most of the people that are talking s**t are just jealous or just don't understand the difference between pom pom and cheerleading...you all did great this year!

  • WIAA:Tournament Rules

"A pom routine is designed to emphasize the utilization and movement of poms. A variety of styles may be combined or one single style may be used. Emphasis should be placed on presenting a well-balanced mixture of creativity, difficulty, synchronized and precise movement of poms, and maximum visual effect created with use of poms (in groups, levels, formations w/ many dimensions)..."

So...tell me, where does it say stunts, leaps, kicks, or lifts must be used?

  • Speaking of tournament rules, anyone notice WIAA changed the definition of drill to mean routines that incorporate both a variety of marching *AND* traveling steps? (as opposed to *OR*) Looks like this year when certain hotshot new teams hit the stage they need to have routines that look more like those of established teams. Happy to know there are still people in WIAA who'd also like to keep this tradition alive.

  • does ANYONE know the first song?

  • I downloaded a song called "Are You Ready" by Groove Coverage which just seems to be a slower version with less base. But I got it off of Limewire so that may not be the true name or artist.

  • that's definitely it! just type 'are you ready groove coverage' into the YT search and it pops up.

  • i love our girls.

  • damn good

  • Pom is not only about "dance"! It is possible to create amazing visuals without leaping and kicking with poms in your hands. And obviously the judges agreed.

  • my sis is in there. they won 1st in pom and 2nd in drill

  • wats tha song called at 1:42

  • Groove Coverage, "The End"

  • USA should be proud of this Sport and Art.

  • what program did you use to speed up the song? Audacity?

  • I love this little program called SoundStudio. It's great for editing.

  • What state is this in?

  • Washington state.

  • Despite any argument whether it's a true "POM" routine, it still was amazing. Having 40+ girls in perfect sync is astounding. The visuals and intricate pom switches were terrific. Great Job Girls!

  • this was interesting...it wasnt bad but it was SLOW! was that tha point? wierd but good for what is was. The visuals were pretty good. And as to the debate of wether or not it should really be considered "pom" yall should look up Houston High School Pom Nationals 07, now that is DEFINATELY pom.

  • Technically you're right, the UDA recognized category of Pom is basically a dance routine with poms in their hands. Very rarely do they use the poms in a fashion that make the routine about visuals. One in a while they will throw in a contaigent just to make it appear as if they are using them.

Teams like Eden Prarie and St. Thomas Moore started that trend way back in the day at nationals. However, dance is dance. There is many more forms to it than jazz.

  • Unfortunately, narrow minded people such as yourself is what pushed Shorewood to be who they are today. After 6 years of pushing in this category, they were finally able to turn the judges to see something different than what was considered the norm.

While you don't have to like it, as a fellow dancer, you should at least respect what the girls accomplished in this routine.

  • O please. Currently I am on UDA and NCA staff as well as an All-Star Cheerleading and Dnace coach, and have been to countries including Chile and Germany teaching dance camps. Yes that was drill team and old school. They should not put it under a "pom" routine.

  • You're right, it's not "pom" per se. 5 years ago this would have been in a special category in WA that combined both military-style dance (we call 'drill') and pom, but WA's HS athletic association dissolved the category. In fact, a couple of WA drill teams, Cedarcrest and Capital, have competed at the national level in pom using a style probably more to your liking; we just have our own little dance traditions here.

  • Splendid!!!! Back in the late 80's (my time on pom) this is how it was done! Love all the peel offs, couple of good pickups too. We used to use the bowling pin look on the floor a lot. Just where did you hide the extra poms? You definately deserved your 1st place!!!!

  • literally a "pom" routine i guess your poms dont have dancing in their routines

  • wow, dats awsome :)

    love the music too <333

  • im french and im love this

  • I totally love how the girl with the extra pom does the whole of floorwork with it under her back and then chucks it off. Good times.

  • so that's how they do it...

  • There's actually 2 girls with multipule poms. Megan and Shauna are awesome. Had to hide the extra poms to make the exchanges work according to plan.

  • i hated choreographing pom routines for that reason...so complicated!

  • me too! I go to shorewood! Does anyone know the name of the 2nd song in their routine? It's such a good song! Go Drill!!!!

  • The second song is The End - Groove Coverage

  • "the end" by groove coverage. although i think it's been sped up a bit here.

  • "The End - Special D Remix" by Groove Coverage off the bonus disk from the "Covergirl" CD.

It won't sound the same as on the disk. I took the parts that I liked and put them all together and sped it up 5-10%.

  • i go to shorewood.. haha

  • i like how people like to hate.

    uhh DRILL POM routine, thanks

and airmaxin1, i know who you are. hahaha loser

  • Yeah, I used to do braids when I was on pom...I'd pretend I didn't know how to braid since there were too many of us for me to even want to attempt braiding. It only lasted so long until they caught on.

  • Braids take to long and I hate the way they look. Classic, clean ponytail. I also am not a fan of buns or any other way to wear the hair. It should be simple and unobtrusive. Buns looks like a lump on your head.

Might be different this year though.

  • Ohhh, lol, I don't mean on top of the head. I mean a low bun, not one on top of the head. I know I wouldn't want to look like something out of the 80s either.

  • Don't know where my comment went, but...As I had said, I don't know who thug fabulous is up there, but I agree with the other comments - you guys look great! I had mentioned trying a deep side part and a low bun to help detract attention from the somewhat distracting ponytails. As a first place team I think it would be cool for you guys to start a new thing. My team did it in high school and it was fun to watch other teams try to copy ;-). Keep it up, ladies! I love the music.

  • I've seen them do pigtails, and they did braids a couple of times, too. Just not at the State Comp... takes a while to get the braids set up. :)

  • I don't know who thug fabulous was that did the first post, but I agree...You guys look great! Just a suggestion - what if you tried a deep side part and a low bun to take away the somewhat distracting ponytails. As a first place team I think it would be cool if you guys started a new trend. My team did it in high school and it was fun to watch the other teams copy ;-). Keep it up, ladies!

  • pshhh sw drill is filthy holmes...WE BANG 07 JEA!

  • In my opinion, the best pom preformance ever. It was soooo complicated!

  • there certainly were a lot of steps and layers... i guess what makes it so great is how SW makes it all seem so effortless

  • It should look effortless... Drill counts as a class, unlike Flags and Step. Plus, because they make it look so good, all the girls try out, so they always get the best.
