I can't remember, It was a ball-point. I don't like using them because they don't have the coverage of markers but I could never find a marker that didn't bleed so they didn't give me the control of a ball point--until now. I just found a great set of pens from Prismacolor Premier that come in assorted widths. Kind of pricey but perfect for this kind of stuff. I'll post scans of my latest "doodles" I did with them on my blog.

what kind pen do you use ? rotring ?

It's a pilot Q7 ballpoint. It doesn't have the coverage of a felt tip but I can't find a felt tip with the control this has, so I can't make the narrow lines I can with this.
