A guy representing the ADA told congress that mercury fillings are not better or worse than gold fillings - they are EQUIVALENT!

The ADA is now so desperate to protect mercury amalgam that it's telling people that a filling that corrodes in ur mouth, that constantly gives off mercury vapor - mercury being the second-most toxic metal known to man & scientifically shown to be lethal to life forms - is identical to - quite literally! - the gold standard: gold fillings.

Dentists once said amalgam does NOT release mercury vapor - they were wrong. This has NOT humbled the pro-amalgam crowd.

Consumer laws require that the biggest ingredient be labeled first so "Silver" fillings must by law be called mercury filling or mercury/silver fillings. When consumer protection law enforcement does the job we're paying them to do this problem will disappear.

So claims by dentists that someone is or is not suffering from excess exposure to mercury have no weight. Until you get a degree in toxicology or medicine then claims are just that claims.

@bkdmd While it si true the problems of light cure are well understood the facts remain that many dentists do not fully cure their fillings especially those who normally use amalgam. Two different skill sets. On the other hand back in the 1980's we figured out how to make the composite filling outside the mouth and then cement the finished fully cured and hardened product in the mouth. The cost of this was only marginally more than doing it directly but the results were far better.

Direct cured composites are only 60% cured or so.

Lab fabricated indirect composites are 90% polymerized or so.

Problem is, we have to wait many decades before such a comparison can be made.

But since the composite inlay is to be cemented with a composite cement the missing margin is not nearly the problem that is is for a cast crown. I am not advocating sloppy dentistry but then that is the mercury packers who claim incorrectly that amalgam works in saliva. It expands!

You are absolutely correct about demanding full and accurate informed consent. It is the law. If you don't agree with the dentist's recommendations then show him/her the back of your head and leave. Go find a good dentist who actually takes the job of being a professional seriously and not only listens but willingly provides prevention information and can do excellent restorative care where needed.
