One of the first Thin Lizzy songs I got into. It makes it even more meaningful since I have Cherokee and Lumbee blood in me along with African-American blood as well.
During Rockpalast Phil was sick and Scott was way under the weather and Snowy guitar sounded thin. It was kind of depressing to watch the only song I like from Rockpalest was "Hollywood" that was done well.
Eh, I don't know. I watched the Rockpalast version of this song and I thought it was way too slow and Lynott looked tired during it. It's one of very few performances I've seen of him that made him sound disinterested and inconvincing. I think it sounds better faster and it makes the song sound more sinister. The song is about Genocide...slaughtering buffalo and killing indians. It's not really a song that needs much 'soul'. It needs more aggression.
Actually...scratch that. I take some of that back. I decided to watch it again and yes, it's much slower, but it's unfair to say that Lynott is disinterested. It's still pretty sinister and Lynott sings it in such a way that sort of makes it chilling, but he does look really tired. Almost like he's in a trance. It works for the song though.
I actually thinks he´s more a part of the song on rockpalast. you´re abselutely right about the trance thing, hehe.. think he was in a trance that whole show through :p
hello bsf nice upload i think they play in what the mood the are and if they did 2 much sugar white or brown and the rockpalast version is there last performans as the band thin lizzy he go solo and grandslammin as i think you already know
Rockpalast wasnt the last gig. Rockpalast was in August 1981. They did several many more gigs with Snowy White after this, and nevermind the whole T&L album and tour...
How are they absurd? He's singing about the slaughter of the American Bison, told from what sounds like the perspective of Native Americans. It's just historical and Phil loved all that old west type stuff.
Now absurd would be "Having A Good Time"..."That was Snowy White...he likes it...uh...in the night"?
This is a very effective companion piece to "Massacre." I suspect that the first song referred to the slaughter of friendly Cheyenne at Sand Creek by Colorado militia under the leadership of that rat bastard John Chivington in 1864. This one is a more generalized lamentation for the dispossession of the Plains Indians.
I'm a Lizzy fan with mixed Indian heritage. This is among my favorite songs, even though it makes me grind my teeth to powder in frustration.
Ahead of their time... this band was not appreciated as much as the should have been. Still miss Phil... Boy... think of the great music we got ripped off!!!!
A classic song. Kirok, I didn't know that there were other songs orientated toward the Buffalo. This song has so much meaning, with the oppression of the Indians! God Bless Phil! He was a poet and man who is I now with God! Carry On!
What an amazing song. Phil was a man of some learning, and a lyricist of unusual depth. For some reason, he had an abiding interest in the subject of the Buffalo; it figures in at least four of his songs (this one, obviously, plus "Buffalo Gal" and the title track from "Shades of a Blue Orphanage," and "Massacre" from "Johnny the Fox").
There are people round here, that don`t kindly to the killing of the Buffalo..

@blacksabfan Snowy was the one who seemed disinterested especially on Suicide. No wonder they canned him.

No, I'm saying it needs more aggression. Not toward buffaloes and indians, but toward speed and delivery of the song's message.
Good to know you're just another pedantic troll that likes to split hairs about nothing.

Agreed, but the only Lizzy song I *cannot* listen to is "Boogie Woogie Dance". I get goose bumps just thinking about it.
