  • how do you know if its out of tune? Can be just traditional tuning. Our system is infact out of tune, its just what you know.

  • Is your title short for "Clavichord real out of tune"?

  • 3 FPS lol

  • So which frame was the music in?

  • my toaster has more fps -____-

  • I enjoyed this......as well as SuperMario.............Splendid!

  • Bahaha. I was just wondering, "I wonder what Two Part Invention No. 4 sounds like on a clavichord," so I put it into Finale NotePad under Clavichord. I YouTube'd Clavichord to just hear the real instrument and came across the song by complete accident. What're the odds?

  • This was one of the first pieces by Bach I learned. It's interesting to hear someone else playing it. Thanks for posting.

  • not bad, but you're getting faster and faster. try to play along a metronome.

  • You must change this Video to better Quality...

You had Recorded by a Phone Camera right?

    Please use a Handycam!!!

  • Of course. JUST because he's asian, he has to play SMB at the end...*sigh*

  • Invention 4- nice, but the sound is poor.

  • Im pretty sure thats a clavichord.

Clavichords hit the string, whilst Harpsichords pluck the string.

It looks to be a clavichord, but I could be wrong.

  • It is a clavichord,,,and well tuned as well,,,

    good sound quality

  • @Sionolann

I'm pretty sure you're correct ;-). I own a copy of a late C18 clavichord based on the one that Handel owned which is now in the Victoria & Albert museum in London. It looks very much like this.

  • The first time I heard this piece was on "Switched-On Bach" by Wendy Carlos.

Stevie Wonder has a similar instrument, the Clavinet.

  • Is that not using equal temporment? Or just poorly tuned. I've never seen a clavichord in person =[

  • It's just bad playing. A clavichord directly hits the string, wich means you have to use an equal amount of pressure to stay in tune.

  • Oh wow really? Thats hard to even fathom playing. I take it a clavichord would be very difficult to learn playing as a beginner, without any experience on another keyboard instrument?

  • I guess so, i've never tried personally.

  • playing through a coffee can...and absolutely dreadful.

  • Poor clavichord!

  • Eeew, dont play Mario on a Clavichord....man that made me shudder. Lol.

  • sounds 8 bit enough to me!

  • Thanks for the information dude

  • No, it's a clavichord.

  • whats the difference between a piano and that.. just the sound?

  • A clavichord- each key is a simple lever. Your finger hits one end and the other is connected to a "tangent" which looks like the end of a flat head screwdriver. This hits the strings (usually two per key). As long as you hold down the key, the tangent stays connected to the strings and you can even change your pressure and create vibrato. Very different than a piano.

  • well, a piano has three pedals and a very very elaborate mechanism. A piano hits the strings with felt covered hammers and pianos tend to have several strings per tone, whereas clavichords often share two notes on the same string.

This is possible because of how the mechanism is contructed, the keys simply continue into the body of the instrument, below the string that it hits, and, hopefully, at a perfect distance from the non-dampened end of the string. The string gets the same length as...

  • the distance between the end of the string and the head of the key. It works a bit like depressing any one string on a guitar with a coin.

  • you are right.its a clavichord.

  • awesome playing... but will SOMEONE TUNE THAT CLAVICHORD!

  • Who ever told you thats a harpsichord is very wrong. A harpsichord is a keyboard instrument that plucks the string as apposed to using a hammer. This is a clavichord because it uses the small metal hammers. Just thought id let you know

  • is that one of the new yamaha s90es boards? i almost picked one up at guitarcenter last week...

  • not electronic this one! this is completely mechanic :)

  • LOL ...

  • sorry....that's not mine...and i do want to know how to tune it...

  • I know how that is.My grandparents had gotten me piano down in my hometown, on the leftside, it's a half step flat, but on the right side, it's a WHOLE step flat.

  • @sammyvvong

Unlike harpsichords, clavichords don't require frequent tuning and it's pretty easy to do. The main decision is what temperament to use. The modern equal temperament works well for pieces like Das Wohltemperiertes Klavier, but others like werkmeister are popular amongst early music specialists.

I tune my own, which I wouldn't if I had a piano - it's too much like hard work and takes (or would take me) ages.

  • when you make a record, please tune your clavichord

  • It's beatiful that you can play on a Harpsichord so out of tune! Please, play it on a well tempered harpsichord, bitte, and all the people can to make a great thank you, bravo. Os aconsejo, caballero, afinar el clavicordio antes de grabar, pues las tangentes se oyen como gallinas... ¿Capisci? ¡Feliz año nuevo, amigo!

  • that's a clavichord....

  • You do realise this is in fact a Clavichord dont you?

  • and it desperately needs tuning

  • actually this is a clavichord...

  • i saw a 'piano' that is much more interesting but i don't know what's the name of it.. .*^^*
