I am a child, not a mother, but when I asked my mom about my family, my brothers and how they grew up, she gave me some interesting information; when my oldest brother was a little boy, all he wanted for Christmas was a toy kitchen. And as a little girl, I grew up listening to and researching anything I could find on classic rock, refused to wear pink, and hung out with the boys in my classrooms, and that's why I was sometimes 'shunned' from the group of mainstream girls.
