While most Africans were poor, most were employed and could afford basics and had food and shelter. Since Mugabe took over, the country has collapsed.

Blacks could get an education, work hard, make a fortune, get the vote (not everyone could vote Black or White), go into office, the people had eduction, medical care & a high standard of living for Africa TODAY. The path to long-term national itegration was in place from the early 60s under Winston Field and would have continued to develop under Smith. Rhodesia declared unilateral independence from Britain because the British considered the all white government to be racist and exclusionary and found the situation unacceptable. This, despite the fact that Rhodesia was a highly productive country and was dubbed the "breadbasket of Africa". While most Africans were poor, most were employed and could afford basics and had food and shelter. Since Mugabe took over, the country has collapsed.

This was nowhere near quick enough for the radical nationalist leaders - who would then lose to the moderate mass of the black population at a later stage under proper electoral process - pity this was not allowed the chance to develop.

@amakaha1 I agree with you completely. When I say that I weep for Rhodesia, I am not lamenting the loss of colonialism. My paternal heritage is British and I have divorced myself from it. I was raised in a Dutch household under Dutch cultural values and my mother's family genuinely did everything we could, to both help those less fortunate than ourselves, and to teach those willing to learn. To be labeled a colonial based on assumptions was insulting to say the least.

@KonChul I recently used Google Earth to look at my grandfather's farms and would you believe that there is nothing left? Buildings all torn down, equipment left to rust in the fields, nothing but dust and soil erosion. So much for the blacks it was given to (having been taken from us by force) making good use of it hey?

@Musketor - I have an itchy trigger finger here!! the Rhosesian army had a fantastic kill ratio 138:1 and I was lucky to have had six (personal) of the bastrards. Does amaze me that the Brits and the Yanks, given their sophicated equipment have (only if you exclude unarmed civilians!!) matched that - can't even keep a bunch of ragtops in Afghanistan down !! what a load of wimps.

What I am trying to figure out was what was so bad about a segregated nation? People have a right to be with their own. Segregation perserved both the races from mixing and destroying their culture.
Is South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mississippi really better places? The same thing blacks complained about whites are the same things their using against whites affirmative action, black power empowerment in South Africa, genocide against whites of Zimbabwe. Weres the justice?

Permanently disenfranchise and dehumanize another. Segregation does not have to disenfranchise or dehumanize any race. Equal segregation where people deicide wether they want to segregate is the segregation I don't understand why it's bad.
If a black wants to sell to a black or white to a white that their problem. If white wants to go to an all white school, or black wants to go to an all black school thats their problem.
Forced segregation is wrong. But forced integration is even worse.

Because maybe when whites attend schools and their the minority they get picked on in city schools. So maybe they decide to segregate them selves to an all white school, to not have to face those problems. And maybe that person wants to segregate him selves to preserve his culture.

No my justification for people having a right to choose if they want to segregate is that it's their right to be allowed among their own people if they want.
Theres a difference between forced segregation, and self segregation. Theres also a difference between forced integration, and self integration.
I personally believe people have right not be forced to integrate, and if they want to send their kids safely to an all white school thats their choice not yours, not mine.

I agree jshallist. It is a good thing that all those white farmers were raped and murdered. Afterall, integration is a very necessary thing. There used to be a two dollar bill in Rhodesia. Now there is a 100 trillion dollar bill. That is also a good thing because now everything is equal. The nation used to export food. Now they are starving to death. That is indeed a good thing too. He stole the position then refused to allow free and fair elections and refused to give up any power at all. Millions have died under his oppression. Far more than died under white rule. He is fabulously wealthy while average people can barely afford bread or salt. THAT is what I'm mad over.
