  • You've captured the tone that's elusive to more than a few of us..awesome

  • one of my favorite vids on you tube ... good work ..... great sound ..... thanks to people like you .. the hendrix tone stays alive and may inspire some of the younger generation ... feel sorry for them when i put on radio these days ,, its not music its noise .... who cares wot pedals / amps etc youve nailed that sound ... ive seen doyle in concert hes brilliant ... easy to see who inspired him ...

  • the hendrix sound came from old german paper transitors in his fuzz face.... they dont make them no more yepp... sundial still uses NOS transitors to get that sound... and the recitfiers in his amps were solid state so no sag... it had nothing to do with his cheap strats or backwards this or that,,, its just abunch of copper rolls anyways....also the guy here has a weak pick attack which hendrix employed.... hendrix got the amps to do the rest..... that has alot to do with his sound

  • This is a very cool thing you do here my man. People around the world must get so much inspiration from this vid alone.

  • Thought you were really DBII - looks and sound! Tom - love the videos from San Diego!

  • Nice work! As a huge DBII fan, I can say you've done this song justice! Cheers!

  • I have the same guitar set up like that.. The only part I dislike about it is that I tend to accidently roll the volume down because all the knobs are right where your strumming hand wants to be.. Other than that its a great guitar.. and great playing!

  • where can you get a right handed hendrix guitar like that?

  • @jimiele Just buy a left handed stratocaster and have the nut flipped and the pickup angle changed and restring it for a right handed player. I have one, lots of fun!

  • @anaturaladdiction about how much doe that cost. do you know notice much difference in tone

  • @megajames3000 I bought a mexican standard stratocaster for $500. Brought it to my local guitar shop who had it set up for probably an extra $80 so probably somewhere in the $600 range. As far as the tone, yes there is definitely a difference. I feel like the tone is more pronounced especially in the neck pickup. The only downside is, flipping the guitar makes for an awkward guitar. The volume knob is right where you dont want it to be, so you have to learn to adjust a bit.. hope that helped!

  • @anaturaladdiction cool i've always wanted to go do that

  • Que modelo de Fender es ??

  • Vintage Tom you rule. Thanks for all the clips!

  • VintageTom - Nice job on this - we cover this with my band btw - are u in drop D tuning or did you tune the whole gtr to D? I think it should be Drop D - anyway you sound great!

  • love that riff ...

  • Amazing! especially the solo

  • Do you use a Fuzz? Which One?

  • @mojostrat58 I believe he uses an Analogman modded Fuzz Face (sunface). I saw a pic of a Red Fuzz Face with the analogman sun sticker on it. I can try and find it.

  • Nice job. You nailed it well.

  • Why can't I hear stuff like this on the radio instead of the cheez-wiz riffs of the Offspring?

  • really cool tone!!but why are you playing upside down???

  • great tone,great feel!!!you do the song justice!really cool...

  • Sweet!!

  • Hey nice cover and excellent song choice

  • I hear Hendrix. cool.

  • Smoking, get the fire exstinguishers...that rocks! (tips hat)

  • I love that riff!

  • u are Doyle Bramhall???? guau

  • Jeez...you even look like him!

  • awesome!..dude if you even wanna sell me that Lefty JH...NO PROBLEM!

  • ok i have been looking really hard for this kind of guitar on youtube, did you restring it for a right handed guitarist or did you buy it like that

  • it is a jimi hendrix signature strat, one of few of them.

  • Doyle plays guitar left-handed but his guitars are strung as if to be played by a right-handed player.

  • Hell yes!

You should get some kind of award for this!

  • you got that shit blastin hell yeah nice work my friend.

  • Insane!!

Watched this video like 2 years ago and still think it kicks ass!

    Regards Tom!

  • Man I love this song and album. That was nothing short of outstanding. I just want to know where you find the time to pick all that out. Tone is dead balls on.

  • faithful tribute aside,

you've got a great feel to your playin brother

    thanks for the vid

  • great job man

  • that was rockin man, great job, tones dead on and your style shows through

  • Give the guitar to me! I am left handed!

  • nice job man, matched his tone and feel. great choice of songs, i like this one and green light girl, two of my favorites

  • Your Hendrix stuff is really great, your right up there with Randy Hanson if not better!

  • Is your guitar tuned to something other than 440? I keep trying to play along with this video, but it doesn't sound right.

  • it's a Drop - D song :)

  • nem bírom megunni! :) jöhetne több DBII nóta is. ;)

  • I looked up this song on youtube because it's one of my all-time favorites and came across this video first. You are a truly gifted and natural player.

  • Truly wicked tones.

  • What order are you running your effects?

  • That is a Hendrix Tribute guitar not a lefty restrung. it is not stupid. the tone is totally different with the bridge single coil angled that way. your lows are higher and the highs are warmer, hence the hendrix vibe. often it is better to remain silent and appear stupid than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

  • Good Job!

  • okay everbody for u retards out there jimi hendrix was right handed and played guitar lefty

  • go back to school

  • I'm a lefty player so I can't help but shake my head when I see a righty who bought a lefty. I walk into a store and see guitar after guitar I would like to try...then I go to the lefty section and see like three hanging there. Sucks!

  • You got that right bro! I've actually got this same guitar(mij),but if righties only knew how good they have it to guitar shop. It's taken me 1 1/2 yrs. to finally find the Gibson ES 335 I wanted-and that was watching ebay EVERY day!

  • WRONG!!!!its not a lefty guitar...its a hendrix tribute strat.BUILT FOR RIGHTYS ACTUALLY.

  • Comment removed

  • bopplayer is a whining loser boy

  • Me too man! If the Fender plant is going to make lefty bodies, they need to be strung lefty! There're far too few out there to begin w/!

That said, its an excellent video! I actually had to watch yours to learn this song. I play big E on top, and I CANNOT watch Young Doyle play, a C chord looks like the most foreign thing imaginable haha

  • darn tootin' there are too few lefties comming out of the guitar factories. You can only find lefty crap on the showroom floors-it's a bloody curse being a left handed guitar player-not that I'm bitter about it or anything.lol

  • Yeah, it can be a real drag sometimes.

I dont know where you are located, but there's a shop in Houston called Southpaw Guitars........ its like being right handed!!! You can walk in and play multiple instruments! And they dont sound like a toy guitar, its great. I live in CO and its the only place I'll buy instruments at

  • that was phenomenal! Bramhall is hard to play since he has the strings upside down

  • Everything else, yes, but NOT upside down strings, dude.

  • doyle plays with the high E string on top.

  • Damn, son. Damn.

  • you ppl are something. all u do is get a left handed and guitar and string it backwards. still pretty good

  • damn...right on the money! would have sworn it was dbII himself. neck p/u?

  • You're playing that thing man! Great Tone!!!!

  • is that a left handed guitar turned upside down for a right handed player ?

  • yes, but the trem is righty...musiciansfriend had them dirt cheap.

  • oops that describes the new one...this one is the lefty made righty... actually I dont even see the one I was referring to - sold on musiciansfriend anymore.

Pish posh...get the body from warmoth and lefty neck and the pickgaurd with the lefty bridge pickup off ebay add the lefty trem and you have the righty strat made to channel Jimi.

    Anyway I was wrong.

  • pure ownage. played awesome. thanks for the video!

  • Tom that tone is Oooo Weeee!!! Do you know that your tone and sounds are already dialed in to Jimi Hendrix's last recorded but unreleased album First Rays Of The New Rising Sun!? That cd is a must have for any serious guitar player and Hendrix fan!

  • this riff is actually taken from a lick in midnight lightning off south saturn delta

  • Love the tone! Awesome!

For those of you that were in diapers in '97 when this guitar came out, this is a strat Fender made for righty players!

For the record Fender had plenty of lefty guitars back then so indeed Jimi could have had it if he wanted. He got used to it and found a unique tone which he ended up making his trademark.

  • the only reason he called him an idiot for playin it upside down cuase it is unnessesary. A lefty can play unsidedown cuase thats prolly all he had acuess to.

  • Tom you should put up some more DBII stuff!! spot on...fuzzface!! sweet!!!

  • haha first ive seen with the flip flop style not just the reverse neck. whammydoom you know nothing about guitars

  • and you're an asshole! have you heard about Jimi Hendrix and the JH Tribute Stratocaster made by Fender? I don't think so. So think about that before you write anything stupid like that again. Idiot.

  • It captures the JH tone because the strings are backwards compared to the pickups, and because Hendrix did it too, you just called the greatest guitarist of all time an idiot. So shut your mouth prick.

  • TxGtrPlayer24 incorrectly said: "The video is a mirror image (note the "Fender logo" is backwards on the headstock)."

At first glance you'd think that. However, look at the poster of Hendrix in the background. Looks like he's playing his 'normal' way. The guitar in question is a Hendrix Tribute Strat, a left-handed model strung right-handed & reversed, with the strap button on the lower horn, so right-handed players would appear as Jimi did when looking at themselves in the mirror.

    Frank

  • Check that, played like a pro.

  • Beautiful playing man, sounds even better that Bramhall.

    Really liked it.

Thanks for posting your killer playing.

  • Doyle Bramhall knew SRV, his father knew SRV, they played together. You have to realize that there aren't that many new great blues players. Bramhall is one of them, he has style that is completely his own, why do we need another SRV. Clapton speaks high of him, and thats good enough for me. He is in Clapton's band for god sake.

  • hey what about derek trucks he is much better than doyle

  • Oh ye lol So it is.

Bramhall has the opposite doesn't he, with a left handed body but the strings like a righty...

  • Is the neck aligned differently on this Strat, or is it purely left handed?

  • It's a righty, flipped over, Doyle is a lefty. The video is a mirror image (note the "Fender logo" is backwards on the headstock).

  • the video isnt a mirror image, the fender logo is printed in reverse on purpose.

  • He's one of the coolest players around, really humble and nice person! I think everyone should know more about Tamas Petendi...he's way too cool!!! and he's gonna rock your world.... :)))

  • Thank You Baby!

  • killer alligator tone!

  • are u playing this with the high E on top?

  • wht the fuck would he do that?

  • twat.

  • awsome!:) you've got yourself a realy good vibrato! wish I had one like that myself. Do you have any tips on how to get good vibrato? what string gauge do you use?

  • Nice playing - love this guy, great groove to his style...but he doesn't have the edge or snap that SRV had...not that we're gonna see another like "Stevie" in our life time.

  • Tom thanks for posting your videos I have been enjoying them for weeks now. You have inspired my own guitar work and I appreciate that very much. Thanks again from a fellow 6 stringer.

    The David Samuel Project

  • Thank You very much!

  • Pretty serious!!!

  • sounds good, lol I've never seen a righty with a left handed guitar

  • I think it's a Jimi Hendrix sig. so it is a left handed guitar, but it's meant to be played by right handed people. notice how the strap button is on the wrong arm?

  • I love this!!!!

  • wow

  • one of my Doyle's favorite! Good job, bro!

  • Nice sound.

  • wow, nice video , thank you.

  • hey man, how many strats have u got? there all great, i got a 20 yr old cream 57 reissue, can that give off a tone like in this video and in some of your other ones? eg who knows video

  • hey man. i looked up the tabs for this song and i use a fender deville 212, big muff, some chorus, and a fender japan jv series strat with emgs and it sounds awesome. thats for posting this vid man!(your tone on this song beats mine) =)

  • oh..ain't you a fuckn smarty.. I think youd be a fuckn idiot not to relize that.

  • rofl nice

  • Interesting... this is a mirror image. The lettering on the headstock is the giveaway. The player is actually a lefty playing a right-handed guitar that's been restrung (low E string on top - like Hendrix).

As moldowan pointed out earlier, DBII's guitars have the low E string on the bottom. When he plays a right-handed guitar he plays it as is. DBII's left-handed guitars are restrung so that the low E string is on the bottom.

  • Tater, this isn't a mirror image. This particular Strat was meant to look as if a right-hand player were actually playing a right-hand Strat upside down (ala Hendrix) if played in front of a mirror. Thus, the mirrored decal was intentional.

It seems stupid to me, but I guess it worked out well for Fender. ;)

  • killer tone!!!!!!!!

  • Just picked up a micro vibe. What are your settings for this tone...vibe? TS? amp eq?

    Thanks and excellent job!

  • understand that DBII strings his guitars upside down (low E on bottom) Much of his style and tone is derived from his unique picking/strumming style. This guy is strumming on the upswing to approximate DBII style (although he strings it normal) Tone is more a function of your fingers than gear- ask any pro guitarist. That said his effects are some of the coolest around!

  • holy crap. i surrender. do you have CDs out? can I join your fan club?

  • I mean, jeez, what other gear to you need....?! listen to that shit grind!

  • nice job man, im trying to figure that song out. Got the main riff, but cant get much further, your video helped......THANKS

Tone sounds great, your a hell of a player

  • is that an authentic hendrix strat etc, reissue?

  • damn sooooooo goood love the sound!!!!

  • SURE THANG - so cool - nice sound!

  • very cool bro. lotta Hendrix influence in you too

  • BRAMHALL the 20th century hendrix!!!!

  • Poetry!

  • Imadom ezt a szamot. Szuper. Grat. :]

  • Nice job Brother!!!!

  • funky

  • this song rocks

  • were you going for the hendrix sound...or did u switch it because doyle flips his...the only difference is doyle strings his guitar with the low strings on bottom

  • NICE STRAT!!

  • he bought a lefty strat and flipped it over for it to be righty like jimi hendrix did just he was left handed

  • Hendrix reincarnated

  • Simply astonishing

  • help me understand how you channeled that shit, I've seen him play this in LA 4yrs. ago, you could traded licks easily.. WOW

  • Dudes, to get the strings in the right order just put the snares in reverse order in the strat... its not that hard..;)

  • Ok, I found out. This JH strat has that weird string set up. Its built like that so that the right handed players would look like Jimi when they play. Its cool.

  • Super guitar, this strat. But how did u manage to switch the strings on this guitar? Because, with a regular string setup, u wouldn`t be able to paly a left hand model? So, dying to find out how u switched the strings? Did u replaced the nut? Besides that, superb tone man. And the way you play this song it rocks!!!

  • Hi Tom, I never get tired of watching you play and hearing your tone...AMAZING!! Thanks!!

  • Thanks my Bro

  • Hello, man. Great job. Tell me please what model is the guitar? Because I play exactly like Doyle Bramhall, left hand, same string position, thin ones on top. So I`m very interested in the type of the guitar. Thanks. Keep rocking.

  • This is a Jimi Hendrix signature strat.

  • That sound is awesome

  • Why the hell did they make the woodstock strat his signature guitar? It wasnt even CLOSE to his favorite.

They should have made it His black strat with the maple neck.

  • I love this song too!

    Excellent performance dude.. you rock!

  • hey we have the same guitar!!! only im a lefty so i play it right side up!! lol

  • Robin Trower... Bridge of Sighs tone to the BONE!!!! WHOWW sounds great!

  • Excellent! You can play your ass off!

  • how many guitars do you have?

  • I give this 5 stars!!!Great playing,Awesome Sound,Nice Tone,Use Of Effects,(3.10-4.33)Lead solo was WICKED,(4.03-4.08)Love the use of the whammy bar,classic hendrix,similar to band of gypsys(Machine Gun)And Last But not Least....That Strat Is AWESOME!Is It Yours?

  • wow, you're really good!

  • ~Dude thats some sweet guitar man~~Could listen to that sound forever~

  • lot of "GOODVIBE" over here... thanks

  • I need a univibe now! really nice guitar too...

  • Yeah great tone! Super playing too! :) Really enjoyed it!

May the Prell be with You,

    Luki

  • simply amazing...great playin man

  • Your sound is absolutely massive! It's the perfect combination of a great player with great equipment!

  • dude sweet guitar i love the reversed thing

  • That's an amazing sound, quite refreshing next to all the Metal guitarists who play really fast and do nothing else. Thanks.

  • Thank You Man!
