I think through any religion, the goal of peace is shared. And all people are different, so this form of religion helps them gain the sense of peace. So hey, whatever floats your boat I guess.
Glad to see this video has cause some people to re think their views and actually start a discussion about modern day religion. Keep sharing this video with friends and family. It's not trying to convert people to Jediism, but instead let people know there are other religions out there besides the mainstream ones that have been around for centuries. Thank you all for your views!
i am a star wars fan but i don't know if that's going to be much longer w/ this Jediism religion talk. not to be a hater, i love star wrs but i want to know if it is a real religion.
@animefanish We feel real. Our ministers have conducted marriages and signed marriage licenses just like priests, rabbis and other ministers. The State of Texas issued us a real non-profit corporation charter and the United States government issued us a federal identification number. Maybe only you exist and everything else is not real. I hope you'll visit Temple Of The Jedi Order and explain how we're not real. Philosophical discussions like that are fun. MTFBWY
@animefanish James Bond is a fictional secret agent. Then there are real secret agents. The idea is no more exotic than that. There are fictional Jedi in the movies and books etc and then there are real Jedi. The're two different things. This video explains it very well. You need not be sorry. Real Jedi are not offended by things like this. We just invite people to see what we're really about. Almost everyone I've ever seen criticize Jediism does not know what it is. MTFBWY
@Presto262 i will also convert my friend for i have studyed buddism spituutally and meditation for so long now. i wish for all the ignorant closeminded people of this world to view this video.
@CNmaster1 we did not use the same emblem do to the fact that the original site had broken into two, secondly our emblem has meaning and stands for our beliefs.check out the sit before you judge.we also never clamed to be the Jedi from the movies we " based" our beliefs on it.We never said we could use the force just like he said in the video,we dont go running around play mindtricks. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.
@Enzo012 I can see how Taoism and the philosophical content of Star Wars share elements in common, but do you know of an actual reference where George Lucas asserts that he deliberately injected Taoist thought into the films? I'd appreciate seeing such a reference if it exists - thanks.
ok first of all darth vader is a sith! its a completeley different concept of the force! secondly weddings cannont be made because REAL JEDI are forbbiden to form attachments! and last but not least stormtroopers cant use the force nor believe in it! oh and in this temple of the jedi order why wont you use the proper emblemem! look im a fan but im no jedi i cant use the force or a lightsaber for that matter and niether can the followers of jediism! but if you wish to follow it then fine!
@CNmaster1 You look too much in the literal, look deeper into the underlining meanings, the ancient ideas, and the faith based on a concept most religions have. What do you have? The single biggest idea known to man! What do you call it? It is much like the Jedi and spans from the wanting of being a jedi turning it into a actual journey filled with knowledge. It is as romeo says "A rose by any other name smells as sweet" meaning call it what you want a name means nothing, the ideas are the goal.
What I don't get is why so many are drawn to dress up as Storm Troopers...they are beings without will. I guess it is the safe choice: the helmet makes them anonymous and shows that they are fans, but they don't bear the burden of being a bold character like Darth Vader or a Jedi.
Also, the Jedi's code to morality over nationality, race, sex, family, etc. resonates with the most mature part of being human. With less self-defining labels, they have less limitations...thus, more divine, more free.
Most religions came from myth, which were inspired by stories. You can trace Christianity back to the Egyptian stories. So a movie-based belief system isn't tha far-fetched.
The Force is merely an extention of the ancient mother earth mythology...which spawned several belief systems (zen, buddism, etc). Gaia is extended to all life throughout the universe.
@ozarkmac For the most part, but I think what he's getting at is more the fact that concepts such as selfless service and compassion have been lost in our society. You find some people in these faiths which practice it, but they are the very minority. Which is sad, really, our world might be a better place if more people stepped to the plate and helped out more.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you SOOOO VERY MUCH for actually doing REAL research. I'm really glad that of all the sites you choose to read from, you decided to go to TOTJO. Most people don't try to give us a fair chance. This is a good video, btw. Well directed and thought out. -Setanaoko/Alethea
@Setanaoko I'm really glad you liked it! I tried to keep the information about Jediism and my look into the films/fans separate so people don't continue to assume Jediism is just a bunch of fanboys. I was a little worried it came out like that, but I'm glad you approve! There are some things I would go back and re-edit/re-record if I still had the file but that's not the case so I can't. Feel free to share this with people...the more that see it the better!
@Setanaoko ok first off, im a big star wars fan...but it seems to me, and correct me if im wrong...that you youve taken these random peaceful practices from diff religions, hinduism, taoism, buddism and created your own religion and slapped the name jediism on it because your obsessed with star wars...A jedi is a warrior for good who servers the republic to fight off evil, essentially with the ability to manipulate an power knows as the force...you are none of those things...
@RustyRocktopus Not a fan of Star Wars. I don't base my beliefs off those stupid movies (just my personal opinion-if you liked them, it was because of the artistic value, and for me it was okay, just not quite my cup of tea). I base my beliefs off of what inspired the movies- the comparative theologist Joseph Campbell. He's the start of it, really, then after that is about doing your own research and drawing parallels.
@Setanaoko and assuming the force does exist...a jedi has the power to manipulate it...and i can assure you, you cannot. so again correct me if im wrong, you wish you were a jedi, so you pretend to be one, while practice religious beliefs that have existed for thousands of years while calling yourself one.
@RustyRocktopus *laughs* I manipulate it by merely typing. "the Force" is nothing more than energy. If you look into research such as Masaru Emoto, by talking I can affect water itself-which is just another piece of the universe made up by mere energy. The Jedi of the movies are just that- Jedi of the Movies. WE are not Jedi of the Movies, we are Jedi REALIST. Which means, we don't bother ourselves with the impractical talents Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and so forth do. (continued Next)
@Setanaoko ok...well i must admit i was bored and trying to troll a bit, but you did surprise me with your answer lol, but my opinion still stands...so basically the way i understand it, is ina nutshell, Jediism as you practice it is a compilation of diff peaceful religions and beliefs, mostly eastern religions...with a believe in an all encompising :"force" that surrounds and exists within all things...what i dont understand is why the need to call yourself a jedi,?
@RustyRocktopus Now what makes us different from other religions-most others tend to put limiters on what exactly "the Force" is. We do not, and accept that every group (to include scientists) across the planet has a piece to the puzzle. We also accept that we cannot possibly understand the full capacity of "the Force". We cannot definitively say that it is a conscious entity, many conscious entities or simply something that allows us to live by sheer miracle.
@Setanaoko ( continued ) ...a jedi is a fictional warrior from a science fiction movie...the premise of this new jediism the way i understand it is a pretty simple one, whose beliefs have been around for thousands of years...i think theres just some need to associate yourself with the movie and the jedis within it and pretend your being prosecuted for your idealogy...when all you have to do is practicce this beliefs and not pretend to be a fictional warrior for the republic...
@RustyRocktopus *smiles* That's pretty much it. Honestly, I would like to see the community move away from the term "Jedi", but there is an aspect to the term which I cannot really ignore-and that is that it's a marketable term...which is rather sad :/. I would honestly prefer that the term "Force Realist". ONLY because "the Force" has been used in books that don't reference Star Wars at all as a description for a belief in an energy source that can't be defined by just one culture.
@RustyRocktopus (continued) That said, the incidents where we find people like the Church of Jediism in the UK is where we end up finding our major criticism coming in. Everyone looks over at them and says: well they must be exactly what the Jedi Community is all about. In reality, Daniel Jones never trained under any of the orders that were available. Instead, he started making it up as he went. :/ Only recently has he began looking into what the real Jedi Path is all about.
@RustyRocktopus (continued) When we feel persecuted, it's not because of our ties to Star Wars...It's because of what has happened with Daniel Jones. :/
@Setanaoko While most of the world criticizes religion that are not their own (and this is using the basis that the most prominent religions are Abrahamic in origin), we do not and learn from all of them when we can. "There is indeed ignorance but there is knowledge in the midst of ignorance and ignorance in the midst of knowledge." -Rivan's Code of the Jedi Way. A Jedi always strives to bridge their ignorance and gain knowledge.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

But Lucas based the Jedi/Force on Taoism so it isn't really particularly new its about 2500 years old.
