  • I'm surprised a business hasn't sprung up that ferries people via airboats. If enough people want to ice fish a capitalist will rent out airboats or sell tickets, even if it's 5 dollars per trip. It's that or stay on the ice. I like Stossel, he is essentially in favor of Darwinism. Stupid people deserve to die, they have to so the smart ones can breed.

  • I went back & forth on this one but I agree with Stossel with a caveat that a county or a state should advertise with signs, etc that if you need to be rescued, you will have to pay.

Watching the segment about the ice fisherman makes me wonder why instead of using 4 wheelers, snow mobiles or walking, they don't think ahead and get an airboat instead? Maybe they should think "I might have to pay for an expensive rescue that is way more than an airboat, so I'll just get an airboat."

  • I agree with john though. if you didn't ask for the rescue, you shouldn't be forced to pay for it.

  • what a stupid thing to say "people won't call even if they really need help"

you're saying you would be more interested in the fact that you don't have the money than ... dying? xD

  • @ninjashade411

problem is abuse of emergency services emergencies should not be from sheer stupidity

  • At 3:30, "WTFD". I know that doesn't stand for What The F Department but four wheelers out on the ice would fit. LOL!

  • The only exceptions ( and I would not have believed this had I not heard it with my own ears ), Many ( private ) search and rescue organizations request that people not be charged.

    A. If people are charged they will hesitate to call ( I know what the video says ).

B, Search and Rescue are going to be out there any way, if not real rescues then training missions.

Personally, I think risk taking idiots should pay. Just some surprising things I learned from search and rescue experts,..

  • People who don't take responsibility for themselves are still children. They expect the government to be their loving parent.

  • Are there any studies on how much it would take to actually deter recklessness? For example, plenty of people still run red lights... And while capital punishment might be argued for in regards to justice, it has no noticeable effect as a crime deterrent...

  • In Western Australia there's a sign warning people they will not get a rescue if they drive off road and get stuck in certain areas.

Local councils can fix this easily with warning signs, fines and jail terms.

  • WTFD? What The Fuck Department? How appropriate.

  • Great video
