  • when installing Lion, its stuck at Downloading Components. What do i do

  • Ok so I bought my first mac!! But I would like to do a clean install of Lion do I just use the 2 commands above and restart and update live? I don't have a mac os cd!!

  • did you start this video on snow leopard or lion

  • @TheDanStratton That ended a bit fast. You're logged in as the recovery HD, and you do what to what volume? And how do you then go about installing lion? I mean, I already have lion installed but never "clean installed" it. If I do this, will I be losing a Hard Drive? Or what happens at the end of your video when you say "clear that HD, hit x, and reinstall lion"? In Disk Utilities I have a Fujitsu HD and a Macintosh HD. Where do I clean install it and what do I do to the other HD? THanx

  • Thanks man ;-)

  • Have problem with Disk Utility. Wanted to erase my main HD, but couldn't, because I got an error. Something like this: Can't erase HD, because it's active. Is it possible, that Disk Utility is stored on this main HD, which means that Disk Utility would erase itself?

  • Perfect !! Thanks !

  • can i dirty install Mac OS X Lion?

  • Yes if you mount the hard drive but no if you mount a donkey.

  • hey would this work without the cd? and only with the upgrade that i can buy from apple online? or do i need the actual cd

  • Your video is very instructive, but you should've mentioned that this is for those who actually bought the copy of OSX Lion from Apple. I didn't and now im stuck with a erased hard drive.

  • @mambo087 So what did you do? I didnt buy lion from the app store either. I got it from a friend... What actually happened to your hard drive?

  • Once I boot on Recovery HD and go to disk utilities, on the left i get a hard drive named after the make of the hard drive (my case toshiba) and right below it is the Macintosh HD, if I select the whole hard drive will it erase the Recovery partition too?

  • Hey, the end went so fast. What do you do on disk utility?

  • When you do this will you get lion on your other hardrive with all the features?

  • i cant choose my macintosh hd when i try to install it from the recovery, it aint on the list :S

  • why do you want to do that?????it just crazy.

  • apart from loosing my data, do i loose my OS too?..because i just wana erase my computer. without having to reinstall.

  • @Mistabukun and thats why you reinstall ;)

  • and the option key, is it fn, ctrl or alt ?

  • @OhhGraphicsDesigns It's alt :-)

  • If I do this, will I get Snow Lepoard back ? because I´ve installed lion over it, pls answer ? :)

  • I keep getting an error "Disk couldn't be mounted". What to do please? :S

  • Thanks for doing the vid. I tried it, but a) it wouldn't unmount the disc so couldn't erase it, and b) couldn't connect to internet to re-install Lion. Then remembered the internet re-install is only for more recent Macs (mine's a 2007 iMac).

It also won't let me reinstall Snow Leopard as I already have Lion. Any ideas as to how I can do ANY kind of a clean re-install?!!

  • whoa, wait a minute that ended a bit fast. You're logged in as the recovery HD, and you do what to what volume? And how do you then go about installing lion?

  • Hey can u tell me how much time lion installer takes to download the additional files... My speed is about 500 kb/s..

  • if you clear the hard drive do you loose everything saved on your mac?

  • @Raginggunfire you're cool

  • I can not go to bed

  • If I do this, am I going to loose all my data?

  • @A98Clan Yes.

  • @A98Clan just back it up

  • i partitioned my mac hard-rive but something happened and it partitioned the start up drive to 27gb and i can't delete it.so i want to re install lion i could do that through recovery hd yeah.thks

  • @VaMpEdSnIpInG You're cool.

  • Volume on disk0s3 timed out waiting to mount

    What to do?

  • @DoberFrann Restart holding Command + R. It will bring it up. I did this video before Apple released the easy way to do this.

  • @TheDanStratton I dont have Apple Boot Reovery...What to do?

  • @TheDanStratton have you made a new video about the easy way to do it?

  • Comment removed

  • @pixibuex No, once you buy Lion, doing this will just reinstall it for free.

  • im getting the new mac mini 2011 and it doesnt have a disk drive. how can i install a new OS in the future without a cd? thanx

  • @badguy66626 Just upgrade normally through the Mac App Store, and then if you ever want to do a clean install, just follow the video.

  • If I just buy and install Mac OSX Lion, will I still have all my old files and programs on my computer?

Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm new to mac.

  • Update! Apple released the easy way to access this on their site. Instead of doing all the terminal stuff to mount the Recovery HD, just restart your computer and hold down Command + R. That will bring up Recovery HD.

  • @PatchowPietro Either backup your computer with time machine (recommended) or transfer your iTunes folder (Home Folder > Music > iTunes) to a USB. Make sure you follow directions online about moving iTunes to make sure you don't lose any files.

  • @PatchowPietro If it's backed up.

  • @BikerVsWild Did everything work out okay?

  • Hello, could please tell me how can I burn a LION INSTALL DVD ? I can't find the LION install image on my computer.... Is not in the APPS folder... THANK YOU.

  • @yuyosaine just google Mac OS X Lion DVD and there are a few tutorials.

  • I have one macbook white (C2D 2.1 2GB ram 667) do you recommend me upgrade my macbook to Mac OS X lion??

  • @RicFlcn Yes, Mac OS X Lion should run fine!

  • A New Macbook ar came ouqt with i5 ad i7 processors with lion preinstalled`

  • I already had the lion 'golden' version and it won't let me purchase the mac app store version....wtf?

  • @92davidcanoa Yes, I noticed that, I would downgrade to snow leopard, and then install Lion from the App store.

  • @TheDanStratton All I wanna know is if the 'golden' version is the same as the mac app store one cause if it is it just means we got it for free

  • @92davidcanoa Yes Apple did release the GM.

  • @TheDanStratton hm still i'd feel better having the app store version

  • Hey guys!

I've ran into a problem and I hope somebody can help me out.

I've got a 2009 MacBook Unibody. It came with 2 Gb RAM, I upgraded it to 4 at my local Apple retail store shortly after I bought it.

When I open the "about this MAC" window it still says 1.76 Gb RAM in the Hardware Overview. When I go to memory it sees the two 2Gb RAM slots taken.

Guess what? I've tried installing Lion and it won't work. It says "Lion needs at least 2 Gb memory",

    Anybody got an idea?

  • @kadaverul Take it to the Apple store and have them look at it since they installed it. It could either be that the RAM was not installed right, your computer is not recognizing it, or it is failing.

  • Great video!

    - Sarah :)

  • my only said Apple_HFS Macintosh HD, and Microsoft Basic Data BOOTCAMP (i got bootcamp on my macbook pro) Help!

  • @MrMegatron2002 What version of Lion are you running? (DP 2, GM, etc.)

  • @TheDanStratton GM, but don't know why.

  • @MrMegatron2002 Hmm that's odd, both my Macs with the GM have it. Maybe if you try reinstalling Lion it will show up. Sorry :(

  • @TheDanStratton ok, thx for helping anyway!

  • He said you need snow leopard in order to download Mac OS X Lion from the mac app store

  • @emirozmen Yes, but once you have Lion, you can get it through Recovery HD.
