  • does the kid have progeria?

  • @tallskinnypunk The kid was really a student at a local school with great guitar skills. He's not impaired at all really, there was a lot of makeup used, although he does look a bit 'out there' in reality.

  • the cross of the world....brought city folk and mountain folk together...over the love of a familiar song...

  • musical and cinematic masterpiece. glad I could appreciate this film without the homophobic comments...

  • Whenever I hear this I always cover my rear end. I wonder why that is?

  • Ya sure do have a Purty Mouth! Squeal like a Hog...WEEEEE!

  • I read that they actually found that inbred kid near the set, and this was a coincidental scene.

  • @fajitaboys totally not true, this kid was written in the book, so it wasn't a spur of the moment thing. He was actually a jr. high school kid they made up to look like an inbred. He's a hell of a banjo player.

  • The young David Letterman could play the guitar?

  • I hated this movie except for this part. This part is brilliant. Thank you Pastro for putting it up. :) Songs

  • See that boys fingers fly pure magic

  • He does actually play, and still does today, though the other posters are correct, Eric Weissburg and Steve Mandell recorded it. But it was written by Arthur Smith years ago.

  • Correction, Billy Redden doesn't really play, but I saw a pic of him and assumed he did; he was holding a banjo in the pic.

  • That last comment wasnt very 'pc'...i mean the mentally challenged kid!

  • Does that mad kid really play that banjo? Great film...and no, not one for the kids!

  • No, the performers are Eric Weissberg & Steve Mandel.

  • Yes, he does actually play. Still does today, too. Saw a pic of him online somewhere today, still looks pretty much the same. But that is not him playing the song heard, Weissburg and Mandell recorded it for the movie.
