It matters if they're tempered most likely. I've done glass scratch removal for many years and having a new blade, preferably a new one makes all the difference in the world. If I can, I only use steel wool 0000.
One more reason to use stainless steel blades (even if they are too darn thin).
I've found that it's best to always use the same side of the blade when scraping. Triumph handles have a small hole on one side. I always make sure that the hole is facing out toward my palm just as a point of referrence so I'll know which side I'm using.
The biggest problem with scratching glass is dropping the scraper and bending a tip.
Also, tempered glass scratches real easy with any scraping at all.
