  • "The Swords and Shilds will never break, the ranks of Man shall never be broken, the Humming shall never fade." I wish I had had the courage, integrity, and heart as thes men had.Huh, maybe ill find out when i start Basic in september.....HOOOOOORAHHHH

  • i kinda liked how some of the movie effects were kept in. adds drama to the music.

  • I'm rather saddened by the comic everyone is upset about. BUT It's clear that enough has been said about PRenta's ignorance.

As for the video, fantastic work. Good concept, and expertly done. The editing was good and the choppiness of it lent itself well to the subject matter.

The ONLY criticism I have is that the sound effects of the movie are sometimes a little overpowering so some audio tweaking would have been nice. Still, great stuff. Feel proud.

  • The moderate Somalis knew of our good intentions, but of course they were very few in number, and had little power. The warlords, of course, were always involved in petty fighting, very much like gangs in their territorialism and tactics. Really the only things the Somalis agreed on was Islam, and as is the case with any religion, crazy leaders+ignorant people=violence.

  • American imperialism in Somalia? There is nothing profitable there, no reason to 'subjugate' it in any way. We were ONLY there to help people; food and medicinal aid was sent for the starving and the sick, but warlords kept confiscating it so we sent troops. We meant well. It is a pity that the poor, ignorant people of Somalia were whipped into a frenzy by their religious leaders, who told them that the Americans wanted to make them slaves and take Islam from them. So we had to fight...

  • Good video, DerK... although I may have to disagree that 'Saving Private Ryan' is about Upham's transformation into a "warrior". Quite the opposite, in fact. Upham suffers from cowardice from beginning to end in the movie -- including at the end, when he shoots "Steamboat Willie", an unarmed POW. I think Spielberg's point was that by the time Upham finally does kill somebody in the war, it is merely a further act of cowardice on his part.

Excellent use of this song, however.

  • Well done, fits.

  • Nicely Done.

  • although upham came good in the end, ye cant really forgive him for not helpin adam goldberg in the hand to hand death fight, crying little wanker

  • you have really good Editing Skills ! and i think this song should be in every war movie either at the end or during!

  • god have mersy on our souls boys :'( thats a sad movie but good video i always cry when i watch saving private ryan

  • The scene that ALWAYS "crushes" me in this movie is when Ryan breaks down at Cpt Millers grave and ask his wife to tell him he's led a good life and that he's good man . . . gets me EVERY time . . .

  • could do with a little less flickering. but not bad. not bad.

  • Great song, great movie.

  • saving private ryan isnt really much of a music movie if u get what i mean

  • @tmtmtmuu And adding a somber, excellent, & poignant folk song from 200 years ago to a WW2 movie that is full of violence and heroism is called creativity and artistic license. Until you can put something together that's half as good as this, I suggest you just keep your head buried in your ass. if you know what i mean......

  • what's with the constant black flash?

  • @dogface3731 Yes, America's contributions cannot be taken for granted. But do not forget the rest of the world who suffered for standing against oppression. don't forget the Londoner in the midst of the Blitz, the Russian in Stalingrad, the Asians who had their hopes vanquished. America did not win the war. Russia did not win the war. The ALLIES united won the war.

  • this song fits any military theme great choice making this vidio

  • It was estimated by U.S officials that an invasion of Mainland Japan would have cost over a million american lives and millions more japanese. They would have fought to the very end. Yes the bombs were terrible, but thank God it did not come to that.

I feel like Japan had at one point, the best overall military in the world. When you put together their navy, air force and army.

  • Actually Strummer performed this 10/10/2001 in NYC right after the towers came down. Wasn't a dry eye in the house...

  • This is the Joe Strummer version that is ran during the credits of Black Hawk Down. Powerful song, nearly brings a tear to the eye when i hear it.

  • Popular TV movies and cinema have made it seem as if it was America vs Hitler. The millions of men from the Soviet union, the colonies of Britian like India, Pakistan, South Africans, Australians, etc are all forgotten. World War 2 would never have been a victory if it were not for the Soviets. They showed the meaning of determination.

  • Unfortunately many of the Soviets had no choice, sort of like some of the Germans, (many were pressed into the service) regardless of what they believed. Stalin had the philosophy of "a Soviet soldier turns away, you are shot for cowardism."

  • @pm2424 your actually right im being completly honest, thats one thing that is incredibly awe inspiring about the russians in that bloody war, and yes all kinds of different countries and nations fought as well, but to say that the americans did'nt play a specific role in the downfall of Germany and the closeing of the war is literally historically innacurate...D-day, battle of the bulge, Iwo Jima, Peleu (i might have spelt that wrong) we lost alot of guys :(

  • @dogface3731 America did play a very important role in World War 2 against the Japanese and also in Europe, no one in their right mind can dispute that however, America's contributions weren't so significant that one can write off as trivial the millions from other nations that gave their lives to defeat Hitlers armies in Europe or the Japanese in Asia. Hollywood often forgets this fact and in doing so warrants the American public forget as well! That is a crying shame and scandalous.

  • dogface take it easy man. the americans arent fucking perfecto alright. actually thanks to you americans we have a problem called obesity.

  • @Garhorium and alittle something called communism came from the russians so yea i GUESS were even.....

  • @dogface3731 your an idiot because all you Americans think your fucking right. Half of the people in your fucking country are artificial... Dude don ttalk to me until you go get some some brains and quit the Botox and the plastic.

  • @Garthorium really botox and plastic..pretty sure thats not our only problem, if you really wanted to make fun of us you would laugh at our joke of an economey, our past president and our failing health care package thats strangling all of our states budgets. btw sry for sending over 9 billion dollars of aid to india when the tidal wave hit, sry for over 6 billion dollars in aid to haiti, sry for all the schools wev created in africa, and sry for bailing you guys out of 2 world wars..our bad...

  • @Garthorium So let me get this straight, Garthorium. According to you, we Americans are all idiots because we think we are right. Got it. Therefore, one must assume that all you Australians are geniuses because.....you uh.....think you're wrong? Yes? No?

  • @Rikki0 i never said we australians were the best i am simply saying that alot of you americans are idiots, your country sluaghtered 100,000 cows because a company decided not to milk anymore, how fucking smart are you guys?

  • @Garthorium My friend, you might be interested in finding that Australia slaughters 24,000 TONS of HORSES each year as of 2009. The cattle that were slaughtered in the case you are speaking of were slaughtered for food, as all countries do. Cows are traditionally killed by most countries for food, as were the ones you speak of. But horses? So I ask, how smart are you guys? I came on this site to listen to the song and saw your post and defended my country. Now defend yours.

  • @Rikki0 good last sentence dude it sounded pretty good i think i might use it for something, now i didnt know that and i guess there are dickheads here too and i know that cows are slaughtered for food, i live on a farm but we dont have cows and we dont kill any of our animals. so thanks for filling me in on that i guess we are all stupid.

  • @Garthorium Nah, we're not all stupid, my friend. But all countrys have their fair share of them. Unfortunately they all to often wind up in seats of power and people often judge the entire populace of a country by the actions of a few stupid people who have the means to project their will and make either national policy or world headlines. I always try to avoid classifying an entire people based on the actions of a few. At any rate, thanks for the reply. Semper Fi, bud.

  • @Rikki0 you are right rikki0, Semper Fi to you to mate.

  • and what did the russians do to berlin stuid shit? you do realize that the americans were fighting in Africa waaay before they attacked normandy and were fight the best tank general that germany had to offer u fuck head and the only reason that russia wasnt complety fucked in the ass was the millions of millions of disorganized untrained and poorly equiped soilders that burned berlin to the ground. We saved your asses and you fucking know it dont EVER disrespect those men that fell...

  • well put, Also the Ruskies were able to turn the Nazi's because Htiler was a dumbass and invaded right before winter, learning nothing from Napoleon, ssnakessnake1 is a dumbshit

  • Upham reminds me of my little cousin dylan

  • Beautiful Irish Melody By Thomas Moore

  • Very well done. I never looked at the Upham character in that light.

  • Amazing video.

  • decent video and all, but... Corporal Upham?? Really?

  • @billykid84 hahaha yeah seriously Upham? wtf lol

  • The Minstrel Boy is an Irish tune. And it should be our National Anthem. "No chains shall sully me" And never result in slavery. Sin é

  • Is it my eyes or the whole clip just flicked all the way???

  • @bunsinh456

The guy thought it was cool to sync the drum beat with a fade out....looks sucky tbh.

  • True that. But anyhow the guy gave his best and I respect it :)

  • Upham is a little pussy bitch. Lets his fellow soldier to get killed while he just stands there on the staircase. i guess he wasn't much of a friend to his comrades.

  • upham wasnt in the infantry he was a map maker. on the other hand the other men like riben and miller went to ranger school and learned to fight in the infantry. so please give him credit he was scared and didnt want to die

  • True, but all soldiers in the Armed forces are to go to basic training where basic fighting skills are learned. He obviously completed this training, therefore he knew what he had to do and sometimes people have to overcome their fear. Don't tell me that even the Rangers don't get scared or fear for their lives. If one of my comrades were in that situation, I don't think I'd just let him get brutally killed like that.offering no help. But maybe that is just too much to ask of a person in uniform

  • I disagree with your description of the corporal. He was not changed into a warrior. He was a coward who let two men die b/c he was afraid. He didn't even point a gun at the enemy until the battle was pretty much over. There is no real "minstrel boy" in this movie except for maybe Private Ryan.

  • well done. As to the song's origin it was written before WW1. It has been used(mistakenly ) in American Civil War circles and in the movie Gettysburg. It actually was written after 1865. It talks of any generation of a boy going off to war. The harp represents dignity and self respect. When the boy dies in battle, his courage cannot be questioned and his death is not in vein. The words of this song relate to what it means to sacrifice oneself for a greater cause.

  • reddevils your an idiot , the song was written by Thomas Moore in the early 1800`s to honour the minstrel boy or as we call him in Ireland the croppy boy , he fought against British tyranny and when he was captured his father refused to claim him so he was hung . "And he tore its cords asunder " the harp was the sign of the united irishmen he tore the cords to show the rebellion was over

  • Well then I'm not the idiot, the person who told me it was written after the Civil War, who is a musician, mind you, is the idiot.

He is that professor know it all types. Sorry for the mistake.

  • @1798Greenflag1916 Im not full irish but im about 50% irish and thanks for posting this, i really wanted to know the true origin of this song i mean i knew it was written in ireland and thanks.

  • @1798Greenflag1916 Yes you are bang on with your correction. The Minstrel boy tears the chords to prevent the harp being played by the oppressor. Music being the one thing the English could not "Take".

  • Great Job! This is a superb video! ;) It definately goes well! As far as your comment on the Minstrel Boy going better with Saving Pvt. Ryan than Black Hawk Down, I am going to have to disagree with you. Truly this goes well with Saving Pvt. Ryan, but you just can't think of Black Hawk Down with out thinking of the Minstrel Boy. Black Hawk Down was the movie that gave the Minstrel Boy his fame. thats just my opinion. All thanks to the American Military, I am entitled to my opinion.

  • Minstrel boy was extremely famous way before black hawk down. Maybe not in america, but in the UK it is. Loads of the irish regiments use it iirc.

  • Yes, I understand that. However, I was speaking on behalf of the United States. I have heard it here once before Black Hawk Down came out. Ever since the movie did come out its popularity has increased superbly here in the U.S.

  • By the way, this is still a good video played to the tune of a soul-stirring song. Good work.

  • Forgive me for disagreeing with you, but I find if hard to call Upham a "warrior", especially considering his actions in the final battle. His cowardice ended up costing two men their lives and the only soldier he kills is an unarmed prisoner (granted, the man deserved it). I'll admit he did good at some points, but to say he grew up and was a warrior is stretching it.

  • Good point about Upham's cowardice. It disgusts me every time I watch the film.

  • That was a very very very well made video, timing, scenechoices and fading were all topnotch!

  • Beautifully done! Bravo!

  • good job man. It totally fits.

i love the editing, quite inspiring.

  • i saw this movie today omg i loved it it was the greatest movie ever!

  • Good job! Good storyline for a video. Its very encouraging! I liked how you put the American flag in a the end.

Not only have you done a great job on the video, you have introduced me to a GREAT song! Love it!

Pay no attention to those mean comments. You've done a fine job. 5 stars and fav'd!

  • you sound like minstrel boy..The Army is no place for poets/musicians..google zeitgeistmovie

  • To surf2liv: Well, poets, musicians, actors,

writers, etc. go to war too and get killed too

...that's partly why the song is so sad. ~_~

    =^__^=

  • From Irish tradition, you needed to be a musician/poet to be a warrior.

    Think about it.

  • the flashes actually made it better. it made it look like the opening credits in band of brothers.

  • This song wasnt played in Saving Private Ryan, it was in Black Hawk Down ending credits. Still nicely done.

  • Yes, I know. However, I thought the song fit Saving Private Ryan more (Corporal Upham in particular). Thanks for the comment!

  • The song in the end credits is the main thing

that I like about Black Hawk Down. (I'm not

really very into war movies. ^_~ [Actually

the movie itself was kind of good at the end

but it took what felt like an *incredibly*

    long time *getting* there.])

    Thanks for posting, DerKaiser92.

    =^___^=

  • @shack130 The comments really make me wonder about the intellectual and moral disconnects here; Black Hawk Down-the Minstrel Boy arises out of the Irish struggle against British occupation and BD is about--American occupation and imperialism in Somalia-seems like role reversal here. I have problems with a lot of with Speilberg and Hanks-the movie endorses a war crime when the American soldiers shoot down German POW's-but hey their Nazis so we can do what we want to anyway.

  • Lovely editing here. The flashes to the beat were sort of distracting BUT once I got used to them they added an incredible tension to this. Well done! The cross fades softened some of these intense scenes and kept us remembering the emotion and fear going on in the scenes. I really like how you editing the clips and increased the pacing when the music gets more intense...the scenes do too! The ending was fantastic and very fitting! Bravo! Very nice!

  • Thank you very much! I really appreciate your comment, thank you for taking the time to write! :D

    Love.

    This.

    Video.

This is going on my best videos playlist. I love how you show Upham's transition from being a naive young man to a tough fighter who can hold out now- you're right, the sing really suits Saving Private Ryan!

I love 2:57, with the ethereal gold on them, and all the scenes you picked really matched the words! I love the last minute. There are so many parts I love about it. 10 stars!
