Anyone have a suggestion for similar artist that do this break beat/techno jazz fusion stuff? Unfortunately almost the whole rest of The Bad Plus catalog is nothing like this song (just my opinion not a bash or anything negative).
@severus420 There's an acid jazz band in Orlando FL that does amazing fusion stuff like this, some tasty dnb drum licks with jazz fusion, but I don't know of any big name players. Brad Mehldau Trio has musicians of this caliber but they stick to more standard jazz formats. Check out LTJ Bukem you've never heard of him. Wish I had more for ya.
I saw them for my birthday in Sept. What a present!!! I even have my students tapping to "1980 World Champion" for dance competitions! That's how much I LOVE them!!!
I saw these guys on Conan O' Brien a couple months ago and they left and indellable impression on me. Now I remember why I wrote a note to myself to look for them. I'm buying albums :P
Dude... That's been asked a thousand times... It's on the video and ironically it's called "And Here We Test Our Powers of Observation". Guess yours are not that good... :/
WHERE, pray tell, is the title of the tune. You said it was on the video. Where? How? Does the host introduce it? Yes, I now know the title of the piece. I'm now wanting to know where it is on the video. The poster doesn't have it as part of his/her info.
My favourite band. All three musicians are top class. I think, along with Eric Delaney, David King (Drums) is the best player I have heard. I was lucky enough to sit about 3 meters away from them playing live last week. It was absolutley amazing, and they are really nice people when you talk to them, and happy to sign CDs.
He's called Reid Anderson, and composes a great deal of the music they play. I agree he is a brilliant musician, as are the other two. I think, along with Eric Delaney, David King (Drums) is the best player I have heard. I was lucky enough to sit about 3 meters away from them playing live last week. It was absolutley amazing, and they are really nice people when you talk to them, and happy to sign CDs.
And Here We Test Our Powers of Observation (it comes up at the start of the performance, after Jools introduces them). It's on the album Give, far as I know. Can't stop watching it!
Still blows my mind every time. I saw Dave King live last year in St Paul at the Artist Quarter with Happy Apple. Incredible drummer the best Ive ever seen. Can't wait to see the again.
saw em at sxsw 2 years ago. sick. great band and i wish i played drums like that. too cool 4 school. only a few people were hip to their shit and some were calling out some dumb-ass requests for covers. great band and totally underrated?exposed. britney who?
All three of these guys can not be compared to anyone else; they all play in such a unique manner.
What really makes the Bad+ stand above other trio's is their creativity. Any professional jazz player can be technically outstanding but when you get past all that "he's faster" or "she's younger" it really comes down to have you ever heard something like this before...something even remotely close?
they are really good. if you mean they cant be compared to anyone else in terms of the fact that they are very original, i agree with you. however i dont think we can label one artist/band as being the best.(they are amazing though and if you are talking about them being very original i agree) The drummer is probably one of the best i've ever heard
Anyone who likes BAD will LOVE Hiromi from Japan...a 28 year old little girl who can destroy a piano. She is at her best- and most unbelievable, literally- when she's this type of trio acoustic format, which she mixes up with some electric fusion stuff feat. a guitarist. Yeah, BAD+ are great...but check out Hiromi.
i got to meet them backstage in princeton last week and while ethan talked about touring and reid asked about the philly jazz scene (because he went to curtis) david king talked about aquariums for about ten minutes. some of the coolest guys i've ever met, and yes SEE THEM LIVE. the tom sawyer cover is rediculous
i saw them when they came to st. louis last month. i was really hoping they would play this, but they didn't. however they did break out an amazing cover of the rush tune tom sawyer. no joke, it was badass.
Wow these guys are incredible live! I saw them last year at The Sage in Northern England. They are absolutely hypnotic when they get going - although this is a great track, it doesn't show them anywhere near full stretch. If you get the chance to see them live, even if you need to travel, DO IT you will not be sorry. Also if you like The Bad Plus check out Medeski, Martin and Wood
