I spent 10 years in Country Radio ( '91- '01 ) in Leamington, Ontario. In that time, Aces was in my top 3 songs of that decade by Suzy Bogguss. I knew that Cheryl wrote it, but sadly I had never heard her sing it until tonight. Simply wonderful. Her song writing prowess is absolutely marvelous. Thanx for the terrific post!!!!!!

This has always been my favorite version of this song. I remember when this was on the radio, before Suzy Boggus released her own version, and I thought this Cheryl Wheeler was an awesome singer. I don't know how anyone can say this woman isn't a great singer, If it was up to me, I'd call this the definitive version of this song.
It's a sad indictment on the entertainment industry, but if Cheryl looked like Shania Twain or Faith Hill she would be one of the world's biggest stars. Sadly, immense talent is not enough!
I wanted to add that while I havn't got to see her perform in person, I have friends that have, and they all say they could see her over and over and never tire of her.
I think what some miss when they are critical of Cheryl's singing is that she isn't just singing, she's storytelling. I personally love to hear her sing her songs, even though better singers end up doing them. She's very real, not studio smoke and mirrors.
