  • police state alex jones, good documentary about Americas system

  • this man wrote the textbook my ap world class uses. we rejoiced when we heard about this, lol. (in our defense, he pushes his opinion on you, and we have to take notes over it which just makes it miserable)

  • Historians like to say that George Bush will go down in history as a great man. Not pointing out the fact that you need to include Dick Cheney and then include the 1000s of deaths in New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina and the economic disaster. Also, to point out how stupid historians are, they don't even mention the fact that "things get better over time" no matter what the heck a President or someone does...eventually it should get better. If not, you are looking at the Middle Ages repeated.

  • Professor Fernandez-Armesto was one of my best lecturers

  • Quit whining and get on with life. Next time use the cross-walk oh educated one!

  • I am watching this as I am also guilty of the crime of jaywalking , in Las Vegas , My court apperance is friday the 13 th of April ,The officer told me I should be glad he didn't put handcuffs on me .Well I am still pissed off about this whole ordeal . Great Video

  • this is a mess

  • LAND OF THE FREE?? WHERE YOU CANT EVEN CROSS THE ROAD WHERE YOU LIKE??

these laws are createwd to put YOUR details on their computer... a totalitarian state if you ask me

  • May I add some information for those who complain that Prof. Felipe Fernandez-Armesto is using "big words"? He is one of the most brilliant people on Earth. He is a global environmental historian (basically, how humans have screwed the planet) and was a guest of Tufts University teaching Spanish civilization and culture. And as you can see, he's also a very sweet person, deeply humane, shy, gentle. Look up his books on Amazon.

  • ok i admit my previous comment was hasty.i have nothing against the guy. i dont know him. i shouldnt pass judgement. and the big words thing i suppose he is a professor and his choice of lexis would be more complex and come naturally to him. my original arguement was weak and unfounded. there we go.

  • That's very generous of you, rezma90. I didn't mean to sound irate. I was just so taken aback by what had happened to this poor man. I once had a chance to interview him for a newspaper, and turned it down because I just knew I would embarrass myself. Thank you for responding.

  • Is no one else concerned of Rodney King style retaliation on the streets of Atlanta?

What if all ageing English professor's head to down town Atlanta and start ripping up the streets, burning cars and looting shops?

Then those American cops will know they messed with the wrong mother fockers.

(Stupid idiot -- ignorance is no excuse for the law)

  • now i've seen it all! just when i thought america didn't have any more stupid rules/laws i find out you can be arested, imprisoned and fined just for crossing the road!!!! lol how rediculous is that! why is there even a law against crossing the road? over here in the UK all you do i look to see if it is clear then cross. simple. perhaps the US govenment is trying to excersise the population more by making them walk furthur to a leagal place to cross lol

  • He ignored the officer, then mouthed off to him, then struggled and argued while being arrested. It has nothing to do with jaywalking. Jaywalking is common in Atlanta.

  • When did our public servants become storm troopers?

This is becoming a huge problem. Didn't we just hang the leader of a country for using such tactics against his people? If we let this behavior continue, they will be shooting us down like dogs any time they like.

  • Bertdog is really the son of the rather thuggish officer involved in this violent assault. I would say it's the officer himself but we must be honest and realise the knuckle dragger would'nt know where to start with a keyboard.LOL

He J-Walked for godsake, Is this the only come going on in atlanta?

  • Thank you bertdog. One of the joys of reading comments here is seeing how many complete jackasses there are watching videos. Is the professor a "pompous ass" because he is articulate and well spoken? Can you explain how asking for identification from someone who claims they are a policeman while showing neither uniform or badge deserves being violently thrown to the ground and handcuffed, then arrested and held in jail eight hours for JAYWALKING?

  • there is articulate and well spoken and there is above that. he is above that. look at all the big words hes adding in, as if to prove to us that hes smart. his way of describing other cellmates and even police is condescending. i admit, i was heavy handed, but maybe it may have brought this git down to earth a bit.

  • the jaywalking law is to stop people from getting hurt. no one deserves that treatment.

  • Some people use those words naturally. It turns out the more literate you are, the better your vocabulary tends to be. I imagine he seems to look down on the police because he thinks they mistreated them, and on his fellow inmates because he felt sorry for them. He seems to be a bit of a dandy, but is the job of the police to "bring down to earth" people who you don't like? I guess you think it is.

  • If his country, where laws are disregarded is so great, why is he so concerned about his green card to stay in America? The street he was crossing is actually an off ramp from the Interstate, where cars are travleling at a high rate of speed, and it is very dangerous to jaywalk. While the police did not handle it well, the pompous ass of a professor did not handle himself well either. You should all do your research and get your facts straight before making comments.

  • Did you actually listen? Jaywalking isn't a crime in England. He is here as a visiting professor, and lacking a green card would make staying in this country very difficult for the duration of his time here. It's within anyone's rights to ask an officer for identification.
