i have the first model mgt's and i put an OS.30VG on it and i was debating on whether i should sell it and get an 8.0 or just keep it....any opinions would be great...thnx
i have one of the first model mgt's with an OS.30VG and it is a very tough truck...ive broken it once in about 3-4 years and i was thinking about maybe selling it and getting an 8.0......what are your opinions....
just got this truck and had few problems today, but i figured out all the problems. I have about 6 tanks through it and it is almost fully broken in. when i get about 1/2 gallon through it, it should be running perfectly.
just wanted to tell ya video is awesome and it helped to make my mind up on my newest truck purchase. just bought mine and added integy shocks and rpm a arms and f 350 body. nice video man
Thanks. I actually picked up the FT pipe but in the middle of moving so have not had a chance to put it on. I will check out the other pipe probably and let you know how this one runs.
I realize this is a hard question to answer but I'm wondering how much fuel this uses. I can't help but think a 150cc tank and an 8.0 will chug the fuel.
Any ladies in the LA area if you are interested in being part of a new video please let me know. I can't pay you, this is not some huge production but you don't have to do anything nasty. Just dance on top of some dirt hills or stuff like that, lookin all fine and all ya know.... Let me know, it won't take long and you will get some exposure! Oh and ya gotta be over 18, c'mon now...LOL
nice but whe have too see how the Savage XL works out on torque, speed and durability bashing style. Im about too buy me another R/C truck and this are my pics in my list the SAVAGE XL, CEN GST 7.7, LOSI MEGA BAJA or LST but my favorite is the Savage XL, CEN GST 7.7 and the MGT 8.0 do you think they are as good as the MGT 8.0? just looking for help thank's in advance.
I hate CEN, the Mega Baja wont even come close to either MGT or HPI (I had one) LST2 would compare better against the mgt... I bash the hell out of my MGT and it handles. I have one work on it just you will have to do on the HPI. I dont have the HPI so cant compare but the engine on the new one still not as big as the MGT's... I'm sticking with the MGT all the way. NO HPI for me. :)
If you like your HPI and no problems then I would get the next version but the MGT is a good one to try out if you are looking to change... I always say get what they got at your LHS or what a friend has or something like that. I dont care what truck you buy, things break.
hey bro..can u give some tips on my mgt8.0...its not shifting second gear..and also slipper clutch slipping...im new to this hubby..alittle help please!!! appreciate it
Go to your LHS and get a good book on engine tuning, even that DVD works. Learn it like it is second nature and use it for reference. One you get out there and tuning you end up all confused and out of place. Tuning is part mechanics and part "feeling" Understand the science well so that you can "feel" the tune better. Not sure if that makes sense.
Dude, I just realized we are both saying the exact same thing to each other. I agree. The 8.0 is faster. It bashes better too. It looks cooler too. Its easier to work on too. It has torque that will knock your sox off. It Rules.
Then I dont know what you are talking about. I dont see how the smaller engine on the same chassis is going to be faster. I have clocked mine with the Big Joes and running rich from 40-44. That is fast enough for me.
It cracks me up when people say the HPI is tougher than this or that. I have seen all trucks break all the same parts at different times. I bashed my MGT pretty long and hard before I broke a bumper right next to an HPI that kept breaking arms and something else with his clutch... BUt that is ok,I'm sure the HPI bashes the best LOL
This is the MGT. It is the latest version. It has a bigger engine, mount, some other stuff but basically the same truck. I dont see how the older truck is faster and you are the first I have heard make the comment.
Sorry I have owned CEN stuff and I really hate them. They were just bad all the way around for me. Weak, bad designs, hard to work on, break, break break.... snotty support. Sorry, just my experience. I will race you any day tho :)
Yea I'm too new in the hobby to know all the different sounds or even what the hell each # means LOL... But yea, the sucker is loud and it sounds mean... People hear it and come walkig over to see what is making the noise LOL...
Anyone in the SoCal/Los Angeles area, will be at HotRod Hobbies track tomorrow if ya want to meet up and go a few rounds. Was not planning on taking this but I will :)
No offense man, I am not a fanboy or anything. But you cant say it can beat the Savage XL when it's not even out yet. But I wish I had a flag on my Savage. :(
But I am definitely looking at this for my second truck. It's between this and the LST2.
The engine looks like less than what the STS .30 is .50 or not it deff doesn't have the punch a .50 will when that is actually the norm in the industry
STS .30 in anything is loosing or on the edge of loosing control all the time
custom, a little dremel work an it fits right in there. I just need to drill the holes. 2 need to go through the metal part of the chassis and I dont think I can make those holes...
hi ya mate im new to this nitro game, just got my 8.0 up an running today after a day trying but well worth the wait, been checking out your vids keep em coming and any advice you can give would be mucho welcome
In the video I had said I thought that but did say on the board nothing broke. I might not have said it here, it was on another board. No the saver screw just came loose. The only thing I have broken in a ton of bashing is 1 arm and bumper brace. thats it. The truck rocks. I dont know about the savage from what I heard. But I will race/bash you any day dude... you near Los Angeles?
Just what it sounds like. Lets say you hit a tree at 30+ mph. Your servo won't get damaged because the servo saver will "slip" depending on how mich tension you put on the spring by turning it.
It pops here and there. If I tighten up that slipper and lean out the low end carb slightly I should wheely a lot more. Then again, you dont want to go around jumping like that ;)
also need another suggestion. I am newb to rc cars. Is it a good starter model or should i get revo3.3? good for beginner? Like maintenance wise and everything. Please help
hey, i have couple of questions. I am about to buy revo3.3. And i saw this. Is this better basher? How about overall experience? Whats it ground clearance? And finally how is starting? is it as simple as revo3.3 easy start? Does it need extra glow plug igniter or comes with package. Thanks a lot.
Revo can bash with the best of them. Revo has many advanced configuration options and does very well as a racer. MGT starting is just like any other roto start. Not like Revo. I dont like Revo's really. The glow starter is a pain in the ass and I do not even use it. It also has that oneway bearing that needs to be cleaned just like every other truck so nothing revolutionary there. I wish I could use starter boxes with all my trucks actually.
Competition was pretty tough between the LST2 and MGT and the battle still wages on. However the MGT 8 is bigger and badder than both of those so it is not really fair to compare. If Losi comes out with the LST3 then we can compare. Now I have a Mega Baja/Aftershock and besides engine power, it is just about as tough as that MGT to be honest. I was pounding the hell out of it yesterday and it handled well and costs less... I still think the MGT is the top of the pile tho ;)
The shop owner told me there is a nut on the side of the gears that you tighten or loosen to set the slip or some thing like that to do wheelies.Good luck.
Yes this is the slipper clutch. Tighten it up and you will be more likely to do wheelies but as someone says below, avoid jumping. The slipper clutch is designed to protect transmission and such on rough landings. If it is tight things will break easier.
Hey RacerRix,Do you have problem starting the truck.I'm having problem with getting it started.First thing is do you use 1 washer or two for the glowplug because the shop owner suggested 2 because it is a long block. How long does your battery pak last for your starter gun? Also when you start it do you give a little gas on the remote?
I use one washer (have only used 2 but default one had 1). It is ok to give some gas on the remote, kinda rev it while you are starting but that is just a small part. You need to know when and how much you know? I have not had any problems with this engine at all so hard to say. If it is all tuned up, return all settings to default then lean about 1/8 turn from there. Now start from scratch and try to tune it up. Buy a book on nitro engines and use it as guide.
Let me know the trick to get this thing started.Apparently it is broken in but still nefver did get to use it yet because it's been pouring like crazy for the last two days. They don't suggest to use it in the rain.I was also thinking using a cordless drill to start itbut don't know if that is a good idea.
This is actually the easiest truck I have to start, break in, what ever. Try running a blow dryer on it for a minute or two. Where is the starter that came with the truck? I would not use the drill but I guess you can. Just be carefull.
Follow the instructions that came with the truck. They really cover all you need. If it still does not start and your local HS can not start it then maybe there is something wrong. YOu said somone else broke it in?
Hi all ,just bought one a couple of hours ago.I'm new to the r/c .The shop owner is going to put it together and break it in for me .I have another 1/8 scale model buggy from ebay that is being ship right now with a 2.5 go engine.I can't believed I purchased 2 nitros within a week and I never even drove one .This truck rocks great video. Can't believed it climbs over a curb with no problem. Can't wait to pick it up on wednesday
that seems a little better, my 4.6 runs 3 tanks before needing a recharge( horrible). I have daul tanks so runtime is a bit longer, I think for the 8.0 that would be the way to go.
I have a Revo and Mega Baja, buggies, trucks etc... and this is by far my favorite now. First of all I have never had something go so long and not break. Maybe I am getting better at driving, maybe I am babying it a bit, or maybe this sucker it tough as nails! LOL. What ever it is, I love it. It is tough, fast, powerful, handles very well... so far it looks pretty easy to work on. Very happy :)
I am using 1600 nimh packs and the first one lasted through break in and another 6 or 7 tanks. I think that was pretty good what do you think? It does seem to drain the gas. I do not know if it is because I am running rich or what. I ran next to a mega baja and I refueled twice to his one tank.
So far it sucks fuel pretty good. I have got some small wheelies but have not really tweaked the truck much, still running everything on the rich side. Since the video I did lean things up a little and it will not be hard to make this thing pop wheelies at all. I do not know about the power of the old version since I never drove one, but this thing is as fast if not faster than my Revo which I did not expect. The 4.6 faster than a stock Revo?
Take a look at my vids when you get a chance, I run the 4.6 on the rich side temps. 190 to 200 and this thing is always on two wheels, and I get 20 minutes of runtime average on a tank of fuel.
Pretty cool. Do you lean the low needle out a lot to get that? I can tell just from sound and smoke you are running a little leaner than I am. OK I am going to find some time ASAP to get this thing doing wheelies!!
I think I was looking at the wrong vid when I posted last video. Found the other one MGT wheelies on demand, pretty cool. I'm afraid to lean things out to much but I want to do wheelies like that! Do you wrench up the slipper tight?

If it is all tuned up, return all settings to default then lean about 1/8 turn from there. Now start from scratch and try to tune it up. Buy a book on nitro engines and use it as guide.

I meant I have only gone through 2 plugs so far with this truck. What temp is it outside where you are trying to run the truck?

Let me know the trick to get this thing started.Apparently it is broken in but still nefver did get to use it yet because it's been pouring like crazy for the last two days. They don't suggest to use it in the rain.I was also thinking using a cordless drill to start itbut don't know if that is a good idea.

This is actually the easiest truck I have to start, break in, what ever. Try running a blow dryer on it for a minute or two. Where is the starter that came with the truck? I would not use the drill but I guess you can. Just be carefull.
RacerRix 4 years ago
Follow the instructions that came with the truck. They really cover all you need. If it still does not start and your local HS can not start it then maybe there is something wrong. YOu said somone else broke it in?

Another question...when you oil your air filter which one do you oil ?the outside one or the inside one or both?
TooooCoool 4 years ago
You are only supposed to oil the inner filter.

The digital sistem is better 2 keep batteries alive :)
With digital sistem just small pulces os current R used to transmit data to radio receptor
like : _,____,___,_,___ (0,1,0,1,0,0,1,1,1 etc.)

Does it drain the batts fast? 4.6 does
Footballmofo88 4 years ago
I am using 1600 nimh packs and the first one lasted through break in and another 6 or 7 tanks. I think that was pretty good what do you think? It does seem to drain the gas. I do not know if it is because I am running rich or what. I ran next to a mega baja and I refueled twice to his one tank.

Nice vid, but it doesnt seem that much more powerful than the 4.6se ???
Did you get any wheelies yet???
Also is the 8.0 engine really thursty on nitro fuel???
Keep posting some more vids.
sylvainster30 4 years ago
So far it sucks fuel pretty good. I have got some small wheelies but have not really tweaked the truck much, still running everything on the rich side. Since the video I did lean things up a little and it will not be hard to make this thing pop wheelies at all. I do not know about the power of the old version since I never drove one, but this thing is as fast if not faster than my Revo which I did not expect. The 4.6 faster than a stock Revo?
RacerRix 4 years ago
Take a look at my vids when you get a chance, I run the 4.6 on the rich side temps. 190 to 200 and this thing is always on two wheels, and I get 20 minutes of runtime average on a tank of fuel.

Pretty cool. Do you lean the low needle out a lot to get that? I can tell just from sound and smoke you are running a little leaner than I am. OK I am going to find some time ASAP to get this thing doing wheelies!!
RacerRix 4 years ago
I think I was looking at the wrong vid when I posted last video. Found the other one MGT wheelies on demand, pretty cool. I'm afraid to lean things out to much but I want to do wheelies like that! Do you wrench up the slipper tight?
RacerRix 4 years ago
The only thing I did is use some alloy clutch shoes and 1.1 springs, slipper a little on the tight side, no jumping when set up like that OK.
Dont lean the carb, you should see a good trail of smoke, leaner doesnt improve at all.
