  • HAH!!! That IS Jimi on the left in the background!!! He was is LR's band at this time. I froze it on the frame where its just the two guards and Jimi looks like he's about to bust out laughing!!

  • NOT Little Richard.....a witness

  • @srercrcr Yes it IS Little Richard!!!

  • it is little richard.i had asked him one nite when he was performig at the hotel casino in hampton beach.he laughed so hard and said ,,yes chield.oooww lord it was me.

  • @Urbanwarrior88 I don't think anyone's disputing that it's Little Richard...

  • My God, it is Jimi. Little Richard had a big influence on Jimi. It was said that his guitar sound was an effort to imitate Little Richards voicings.

  • Little Richard's wigs always look like he got into a fight :)

  • No one - no one- NO ONE in the world can say for certain that is Hendrix. And to me it doesn't look like Hendrix.

  • @SimonW Little Richard could probably tell us...

  • The guy does not look like Jimi and I would think Jimi would mention that he was on Bandstand.

  • That's some busby Little Richard has on his head!!!

  • IT is absolutly Jimi Hendrix.

  • "Not Jimi !!! " you say ??? And yet most Hendrix scholars say it IS Jimi !!!!

And Jimi's own father offers at least partial corroboration. But some people with vested interests would prefer it not to be so. Whatever. Count the votes here and elsewhere and you'll see you hold the minority opinion.

  • @jazmaan

Hendrix here? It's afact that Jimi was a fill-in with Richard's band, THe Upsetters, until he went full-time, DEc., 1964 or jan., 1965. He certainly could have been on Richard sessions and TV shows, etc., prior to that.

  • That is not JImi !!! Does anyone no what show this is from?

  • @veney21 It's American Bandstand with Dick Clark March 6, 1965.

It could be a cameo by Jimi. He never mentioned it. The video is so fuzzy so his features don't stand out except that you know it's a black guy & he was still touring with Little Richard. Since it's not clear nor is he playing, it's not very important to me, while a few months later in 1965 he is clearly playing on the show Night Train in the back-up line after he quit Richard. Lookin' very Jimi here. See: watch?v=UvklBbYgnsk

  • I just read the best Jimi Hendrix magazine (UniVibes, n° 63) and they did a one page article about the video : "The guard" at the far left is quiet clearly Jimmy Hendrix" as they wrote. These images became the earliest existant footage of Hendrix !!! Great find !

  • "be it large, be it small, do it well or not at all".

  • I don't think that is Jimi. NO WAY! What Al said in his book was that he never saw the show but friends saw it and said it was Jimi. Look at it closely. How do you see Jimi in there? Bandstand was a high profile gig for a musician back in the day.Don't you think at some point in his career Jimi would have mentioned being on Bandstand? I hate to break anyone's bubble out there but that ain't Jimi.

Go to the Night Train footage for the earliest known video of Jimi. I'm just sayin.'

  • @stlrockn "NO WAY" you say? That's a strong statement. What makes you think its NOT Jimi? Most people here seem to disagree with you. Jimi was known to be with Richard around this time period. It certainly looks like him to me.

  • Yep Jimi with a smug smile, great find!!!

  • That's Jimi at 1:28. No doubt in my mind.

  • And now its confirmed. Jimi's father Al mentions the Buckingham Palace hat in his biography!

  • Jazmaan, GREAT FIND, no need to eat his hat, good Lord, that's Hendrix!!

Peterdchecksfield, it's my understanding that Lucille was performed (mimed?) on this episode of American Bandstand. (March 6, 1965)

Perhaps your source would also have access to that film(?)

If so, would love to see it.

Thank you for uploading this performance of "It Ain't What You Do"!

  • Check out the Rap and Pop stars of today. Little Richard set the trends that others tried to follow. Always imitated, but never duplicated. One the most amazing voices in music history. There are reason's why you never see this stuff cause it proves that King Richard was way ahead of his time.

  • Man, I wish they had clapping on the recording!

A fun dancer but it can't be considered a Little Richard classic.

    Oh my Soul.

  • Love that blonde wighat!

  • Thanks for uploading, never seen this clip before..

So, what is that animal on his head ?
