I think some people who have posted to this video are confused about professionalism. If someone missteps their place, authority has to be exerted. Same goes for the Dr. As for "watch yourself", it seemed to me like a legal warning rather than a personal or sinister threat, and he was correct to tell her this (perhaps not so strongly). She just wasnt taking him (and therefore his case) seriously, so she should have pulled her socks up and "watched herself".
The judge was wrong for addressing a litigant as "honey" and she was further wrong when she suggested that she would be "delighted" if the bailiff physically assaulted the litigant. The biggest problem is that some people think this is the way real court is conducted, and it undermines their respect for the judicial process in our country. If people do not believe that they will be treated with respect or given a fair hearing, the very foundation of our democracy is at risk. Think about it.

A judge is in charge of he court room, and the authority given to her needs to be respected so that the legal process can be maintained. That is the key. On the other hand however, the manner of this judge shows she is defending more her own cause rather than the process. This is a demonstration of abusing public power given to an official. She might enjoy becoming a celebrity by doing so but she is downgrading the system.

I think some people who have posted to this video are confused about professionalism. If someone missteps their place, authority has to be exerted. When you step into a courtroom, the judge OWNS that chunk of space and time, with the authority to direct ANY AND ALL happenings within it. It's just a fact. Repect it, or be in contempt. When someone acts like Douchy McDouche, the judge MUST EXERT CONTROL. US Presidents are not in control in any courtroom, the presiding judge is.

Well the way I see it, making threats, even subtile ones isn't diplomatic at all. It's stupid. As Sun Tzu said, (which is used by business men and courtroom lawyers) you don't attack when and where the enemy is strong. Well, the moron chose to attack the judge, the strongest person in the courtroom. That's how you lose. Judge loses her cool, but he loses the whole thing.

He was the idiot, pompously mouthing off to the judge, she was not unprofessional, she straightened him out on how to respect the position of judge. Looks like the vast majority agrees. She did make a mistake by using "honey", and you can see that she regretted it immediately (before she was called on it). I think she was trying to be folksy and appealing for TV and that isn't her strong suit. That said, this "doctor" (of what? marketing or some other nonsense no doubt) did not look good. Not only is he wrong, he thinks he somehow runs the proceedings. I don't care where he was born, he was NOT professional but rather infantile. I felt embarassed for him.

@robaifei He didnt address her a honey, she did. I insist on calling a judge by their first name or I call them nothing at all (what the hell is "your honor" all about?!) Same goes for the Dr. As for "watch yourself", it seemed to me like a legal warning rather than a personal or sinister threat, and he was correct to tell her this (perhaps not so strongly). She just wasnt taking him (and therefore his case) seriously, so she should have pulled her socks up and "watched herself".

The judge was wrong for addressing a litigant as "honey" and she was further wrong when she suggested that she would be "delighted" if the bailiff physically assaulted the litigant. The biggest problem is that some people think this is the way real court is conducted, and it undermines their respect for the judicial process in our country. If people do not believe that they will be treated with respect or given a fair hearing, the very foundation of our democracy is at risk. Think about it.

A judge is in charge of he court room, and the authority given to her needs to be respected so that the legal process can be maintained. That is the key. On the other hand however, the manner of this judge shows she is defending more her own cause rather than the process. This is a demonstration of abusing public power given to an official. She might enjoy becoming a celebrity by doing so but she is downgrading the system.
