I can't see a balance problem. A single-crankpin 90-degree V-twin has excellent dynamic balance. This engine is two such engines permanently joined. Firing intervals are 90/270/90/270. Perfectly reasonable.
Just my two cents but, looks like that thing would have serious vibration problems. I had plans of a V4 aswell but not quite with a crank like yours :P
Unless I'm missing something here, but to me it just looks like at high RPM the crank you have for that would vibrate itself to a premature death
The firing order is wrong yes and it would vibrate a lot at higher rpm unless you balance the crank, but it would be a strange way to balance it, but i don't think it's firing the way you think it's not firing 2 on one side then 2 on the other, if you at the valves, it's firing 1,3,2,4 which is right but at the wrong times, so it's not cutting out inertial torque theefore having bad throttle responce, less torque, less hp ad too much vibration off the crank (unless you balanced it)
@EzTheHusky sorry for waking an old responce but in thoery there should be no imballance as the counterwightes on the crank should remove the ballance issue, otherwise it is further ballanced by the right sort of firing order and cam timing
And since thing I have played around with several at-home makes and in some physics programs and found that design would be rather efficiant. My friend and I will be making little cars like Donkervoorts, Ariels, and Caterhams and this video as well as many others has been great inspiration :D
There are three commonly used configurations: 270°, 180° and the 360° crank in the video.
270° - best transverse balance, best inertial torque; mostly first order vibration overall. 1,4,2,3 @ 90-180-90-360
180° - best vertical balance and yaw and pitch rocking couples; mostly second order vibration overall. 1,4,3,2 @ 90-180-270-180
360° - even firing per bank. 1,4,2,3 @ 90-270-90-270
They all vibrate, but it's more of a NVH issue, which is why they're only common in motorcycles.

The valves are going crazy in this video. There is no intake compression power exhause cycle at all. Bad animation.

This is an epic fail.
the back row of cylinder pairs would lay on a different crank pin.

@88manta88 Bikes often share crank pins in V configurations. This looks accurate to me.

I prefer a V8.

the honda vfr v4's
are known to go 100,000 miles.
they rev to 12k......
so premature death....no
