  • Oh, I'd love to go for a drink with Annie. So much in common to talk about.

  • Annie Angel

    Lennox Love

  • Works so much better with a woman singing it: brings out all the irony. Just brilliant.

  • I love this song and I love Annie. She's the best.

  • I love this song because it sounds like some of the older classic songs you see in those great movies that no one makes anymore xD Annie is just awesome, we love you <3

  • thats cause it was written in 1928...

  • Maybe because it is! Its was originally written for a 1928 movie 'Roman Scandals' and it is sung by Eddie Cantor. You can check it out on You Tube.

  • i love how shes talking about, how most singgers are young, and shes getting up there, soooo shes talking about how no one is going to listen to her any more, well look at that annie ur 55 and still ROCKIN!!! LOV YA!!!!!!!!

  • Right. And to make the message even more sarcastic, she's singing it with an old fashioned melody. Genius.

  • A good follow up for "Sweet Dreams". That woman has a healthy sense of mockery!

  • thanks for sharing, gugulia! great video :-)

  • I love Annie, her videos and all her music but its too bad that she did did not stick to the original lyrics of this song that Eddie Cantor sung in Roman Scandals. Either way I like this and the original.

  • I love this. Clever and fun.

  • Sad, but true Annie.....

"you will always be in someone's arms"....if

Thank you, the patron saint of gay men; Annie dearest.....

    :-)

  • I see.You mean that many people may think you taking it too far!Hmm, now that you mentioned it, we Greeks want our ancient Eliginian things, statues back from English people! They keep our archailogical stuuff in their museum and we keep asking them to give them back at

  • Classy song. Classy Dame.

  • what does ''taking the piss'' in British means?I suppose it hasn't anything to do with toilet! like pee u know :p

  • Taking the piss - One of the things Americans find hardest about the Brits is our sense of humour. It is obviously different and is mainly based on irony, sarcasm and an in-built desire to "take the piss". This has nothing to do with urine, but simply means making fun of someone.

  • She's an angel...

  • she's always looks so young and fit it's amazing!

  • This was a little more than bizarre, but her voice is great!

  • This only proves that She has Such Talent, and is a Gem.

  • She will always remain beautiful

  • Yes indeedy ~)* Thanx sherrylynn70 for this lovely share! Great posting to the host!

  • What a cute song!

  • This video reminds me of those Dennis Potter films.

  • annie is the best hands done

  • I love the 1920's erra, I think the Queen Mother had a lot of fun. I miss her . .

  • she is so beautiful, with or without makeup...

    peace to your dear heart,

    luv,

    louise

  • ugly people get laid too. lol

  • Apparently this song is a remake of a song from the movie Roman Scandals (1933). That being said it should be noted that her version seems especially tongue-in-cheek considering that the Diva album was released in 1992—close to the explosive growth of feminism, human rights concerns, and environmentalism. It's of also of note that Annie Lennox is a very strong supporter of human rights causes.

  • Love it

  • Lovely!

  • ROFL its great, really hillarious :D..... If your wise ecercise all the fat orwwfff haha

  • This song is so camp, surpised that the drag queens haven't used it, would be fab! Don't fail to do your stuff with a little powder and a puff! Excellent!

  • HAHA This cute song just cracks me up laughing when I hear It sometimes! LOL

  • Me and my sister used to dance around to this song when we were really young. Love it!

  • Wow !!

    What magic retro moment!

    Amazing song and woman!!

I'm in love with both of them :))

  • i love this song so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so soso so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so soso so so so so so so so so so soso so so so so so MUCH!!

  • Love it Love it Love it!

  • While I love this whole album and this song included - I think this is the most depressing of all. It shows how vapid human beings can be when it comes to superficialities - then at the end it counts for nothing. I had no idea there was even a video for this one. Her best album to date

  • Pefect!

  • Молодец!!! :-)

  • THE most perfect satirical song for all the fussing and primping we women feel is so essential... I used it to explain the construct of 'superficial beauty' to my two girls when they were still very small. Annie, positively brill !

  • LOL can't stop listening to this.. i'll bet feminists HATE it! haha

  • LOL i don't know what it is, her version is truly hillarious!

  • She will always be young and beautiful!

  • This song makes me laugh. I love the way it she makes it sound like its from the 1920's and I LOVE the angel wings in the video.

  • This song is a satire people, even at the time it was sung in the old days, eddie cantor's face was painted black with make-up! this is a witty parody of superficial girls, and i disagree, madonna can never sing a song that means something. lol

  • I've always liked how Annie Lennox was both deep & shallow both at the same time. A perplexing person.

  • i like the way it sounds like an "old-time" song. record scratches and all. Shes magical : 3

  • What a cute song!

  • This song was originally introduced by Eddie Cantor in the film "Roman Scandals" in 1933. One of the chorus girls in that movie was a young Lucille Ball in a long blond wig. Annie's version here stays true to the style and tongue-in-cheek aspect of the original.

  • Annie has always been holding her own against the men.

Glad to see she still keeps going on and never listen to the pish posh crowd.

Those guys need to have their heads examined.

Think of Annie as member of my family always glad to see her.

  • Of course it's a satire - who would think anything else?

  • I'm young and beautiful! (I hope... :-))

    Annie is the Best

  • She recorded this song for her first solo album in 1992 (Diva).

Music industry bosses (who were male) were telling her she was too old to continue her recording career because she was getting too old and only older males continued having successful recording careers after their 30's.

She proved them wrong time and time again thankfully !

  • Wow! Good to know that!

She has proven, again and again!

  • this is such a good, funny song

  • Am I the only one who noticed the sarcasm in this song? lol

  • Nope, you;re not the only one...

  • great! ;-)

  • Exactly mcasidis, Annie Lennox has the intelligence to really pull off these ridiculously demeaning lyrics from the 30's, and she does it all with a harsh dose of irony lol

    love it.

  • This song was originally written to be ironic and funny. Why do some people think that just because it was written 'way back when' it was meant to be serious? This goes for a lot of comments I have read about things done and written in the past.

  • follow her ya fat flumpy frumps

  • Oh...K... Yes young girls. stay young and beautiful. It's your beauty they like. not your brains. O.o scary

  • ashilly88: That's the point of Annie Lennox —a socially-conscious artist— singing this particular song. When it first appeared (1933) the meaning WAS demeaning (pun intended); but Ms. Lennox sings it today with complete irony, as if to point out the stupidity of the lyrics. :)

  • what pun? :)

  • @mcasidis O yes exactly. That's something she's so good at. I love that she took a late 1920's tune and found a perfectly ironic way to embrace it while ridiculing its ridiculous lyrics.

  • This beauty thing..think of all the most beautiful movie stars having divorces. Beauty on the outside does not last. Beauty inside does. Love ourselves and true love will come.

  • Why didn't this woman act???

  • Annie is a gift to our times.

  • i have to sing this in our school production!!

  • This is AWESOME!!!!!

  • wonderful song!!

  • My love time!

  • so down to earth, gets right to the point, masterpiece

  • Another wonderful work on a woman's stereotype. Bravo!

  • this is by far my favorite of her songs it cracks me up everytime. She is pure genius.

  • I just bought her Diva cd and I heard this song for the first time on the cd. It is now one of my favorites. WOW Annie is by far one of the greatest singers of our time .

  • Beauty and Talent, awesome.

  • I do believe his song appeared in "42nd Street"....a very surreal rendition. Also in the recent Broadway production. Annie Lennox does this great! Usually a jazzy tap-dancing number, this version is refreshing. But you can tell the song's root by the orchestration!

  • I have always thought Annie Lennox was just born into the wrong era. Should have a torch singer in the 30's. This only confirms that belief! She is perfect for this era!

  • This song is from a 1933 Eddie Cantor movie called Roman Scandals. Look it up on YouTube. Also in the movie is Ruth Etting one of the better singers from that era. You remember Her from Her bio movie Love Me or Leave me starring Doris Day.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • That is seriously awesome! :P

  • Annie Lennox- Beautiful and phenomenally talented Scottish lass.

  • This song is so Iconic ... and Ironic, I love it that Lennox is taking a stab it!! I love the seemingly nostalgic and innocent flavour, but the lyrics are an apt and damning echo of today's age of (excuse the pun) age reduction.

  • She is a genius. Thank Heavens.

  • shes mesmerizingly lovely, a true icon of our times.

  • That girl is a GODSEND... no two ways about it.

  • what the crap, i remember hearing this song on fashion television as a child and have been searching for it since. now i realize that the version i heard wasn't annie lennox but i have the diva album from childhood and don't remember hearing this song on it. is it a cd only track?

  • It's definetely on the CD....So, I'd say so..

  • Can You Say DIVVVVA ???

No one compares to Annie Lennox.

    She is Amazing!

  • funny song, not much to the vid... not even a strong concept.

  • This song is from the 20's and it was sung in gay cabarets.

  • Though it was most probably sung in gay cabarets, it wouldn't have been until 1933, as it was a broadway show tune from that year.

  • I hope everyone sees the genius !!!

  • This is a great video. I have not seen it until just now. Earlier, I posted a video using this song. GREAT SONG!

  • Awesome

  • Can I get this on a 78 record? Haha. Annie is just the best with, or without, the irony.

  • is there anything she can't sing ? don't think so!

  • This is kinda her style, if you think about it, irony and sarcasm put forth in a very Annie-like flair and out-there style. LOL It's not her style of music in terms of the melody and whatnot, but her acting on the video and the lyrics, TOTALLY her. LOL

  • Just Incrediable!!!! NOBODY COULD DO THIS AND DO IT AS WELL AS HER!!! And I think she pulled it off, ever so well!

  • Love it, love annie, but its just really weird coz its just not like any other annie lennox song. It was just bizzare hearing annie sing this lol xx

  • It's mean to be ironic...

  • i love it ... its been my song since i was 18 . and i still stick to the rules of vanity . execpt for the marcel wave .cause we all want to be loved .. i love u annie

  • Wooow esta genial. Annie Lennox es toda una leyenda

  • I love this little vid... Annie takes a little 1920s jingle and makes it into a grand performance...

    Fabulous! : )

  • This was'nt a Jingle it was a song in a Eddie Cantor Film

  • just great!

  • que gran comentario...! :D:D esta canción debería ser himno oficial de algun país! mwah!

  • q tia...la mejor!!!
