Apparently this song is a remake of a song from the movie Roman Scandals (1933). That being said it should be noted that her version seems especially tongue-in-cheek considering that the Diva album was released in 1992—close to the explosive growth of feminism, human rights concerns, and environmentalism. It's of also of note that Annie Lennox is a very strong supporter of human rights causes.
