  • yep...I've got a 17" white iMac....now with 6 vertical lines.

  • JUST USE NICE WHITE BACKGROUND :)

  • The matrix signal tape have two brake pins. Replace the matrix or reheat the matrix pins 200'C.

  • we have also problem like that.. our LED 40 inches tv was bought only 1mo.

  • my hd tv has that

  • Go to the sidewalk in front of the Apple Store at 11am on Saturday morning and set up a table with your iMac. Print up flyers to hand to people with your problem and your name and phone number. Tell them you are happy to discuss how Apple has treated you. This is entirely legal. I don't think the store manager will ignore you. Tell them you want to trade for a new replacement computer. You are not willing to be without a computer while they attempt to repair it. Good luck.

  • Anyone else have small horizontal lines that sometimes flicker, on a 17' iMac with the Intel GMA950 gpu? Model W87

  • call steve jobbs , and ask for ( irac) IRAC, maybe that is the problem

  • @guillekoa Bit late to be fair

  • He is dead

  • i have the same problem with my 17" white imac, i think its just because these computers are not designed to be used longer than, i don't know really i have my imac for like 5 or 6 years now. they want you to buy a new one every few years, and that is very often the case.

  • How come so many people have this problem with the W86....... and not W87........?

Mine is W871blah blah. And I have had many problems with it, hard drive, dvd drive, and now 20 stupid lines.

  • I have 4 vertical lines on my imac :( so is it really heat related?? The first time I saw a line on my computer was when I started up Sims 2.. then the 2nd on came when i was playing sims 3, and the rest came up when i launched the webcam in iMovie ... how do you fix it??

  • @LadyBeatle Yes, that's kind of how mine appeared too... by the end there were so many I couldn't see anything. It seems this particular LCD panel gets too hot. The newer models don't have this problem anymore. Fixes = Replacement by Apple. I got a new iMac (20-inch, Early 2009) with Apple Care Protection Plan so I'm covered upto 2012 AD.

  • that what happened to my lcd hp monitor

  • I have the same problem with my mac. Apparently, it is a fault/ virus that apple takes no blame for.

  • Apple is such "Quality" ;)

  • Like after a year of use and exactly when the warranty has expired will damage the power play and I fix my pocket, now appeared blissfully vertical line.

Steve is not more Chinese equipment or improvements or quality problems will be!

  • Get a PC - problem solved.

Only an idiot would buy an all-in-one computer. Those things are moneypits.

  • vertical lines is a problem of mac! but it's one problem of 10! pc has 1000!

get a mac! make a discovery

  • its all up to buyer!

  • You are a fucking moron !!!! I just searched Imac screen problem and there are lots..not to mention all the comments of people having the same problem. NOT to mention all the kernel panics with the new intel inside.

Once again a apple fanboy with blinders on !!!

  • 'Those things are moneypits'

I bought a All In One 4 years ago

So far I have spent $0 in upkeep and maintenance. Some money pit.

  • finally someone with common sense posts on a mac video. My $2,000 mistake is now a road apple 2 years in.

  • -_- Problem not solved?

I experienced 6 BSoDS, burnt graphic cards, shareware .EXE products and so many crashes.

  • @Habbloxian Apparently you do not qualify to use a PC. Millions of users around the world use PCs succesfully.

  • I bought my iMac in February '07 and now, only 9 months after the end of the guarantee, I was surprised by the vertical line on the LCD. I'm in Brazil and here Apple doesn't care if there are many iMacs with this problem 'cause Apple US didn't do a recall. To fix this problem I will have to pay around the half of the price of a new iMac!

  • Hey buddy, I'm in Mumbai, India, the apple store won't fix my prob for free either. I've started using an external LCD display and it works well. I'm also looking into trying to get the iMac LCD replaced by a non-Apple service person. Ciao! - Raphae

  • I HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

  • Apple loses the legal process concerning the vertical lines - Lionel - 07:47:27

En Last February, we had spoken about a legal procedure launched by one of our readers against Apple. He had two iMacs, both affected by the famous problem of vertical lines that affected many readers.

The judgement was given yesterday. Apple was condemned to refund this reader for two computers. We will reconsider in detail the judgement, but it is very interesting on several points:

  • - Dominique, our reader, did not need to get a detailed technical evaluation (this would have been very expensive) to put forward the latent defect.

    - For that, the judge agreed to regard the testimonies made on discussion forums as evidence of the extent of the problem.

    - The judge qualified that this problem that affected the iMac but also the Powerbook was intrinsic to the manufacture of the machines, in short, a latent defect opening up the right to this refund.

  • Although jurisprudence in France is not amissable in the United States, those which are also affected will be able to try this procedure to obtain a judgement in their favour. To recall, you can only defend yourselves. Our reader prepares a guide in order to help you. Those which are affected by the defective lower memory slot in portables, or by a leak of watercooling in their G5 will be able to follow suit and to win.

  • if i have apple care....... should they fix this???

  • Yes! :-)

  • Hey listen I installed SMC Fan Control on my imac it brought the temp. down from 110 degrees to 73 just by speeding up the fan!!! try it now please save that mac.

  • i have the exact same problem. looks like a mac problem in general, they probably will deny all.

  • Yep, they even removed the thread from the official apple discussion mailing list. So now only 3 courses of action 1) Pay & get iMac serviced (only prob is it might recur) 2) Get a new LCD display and use it in mirroring mode and 3) New iMac (make sure you get Apple Care with it. LO!). Take-Care! Ciao! - Raphae

  • If I Connect a DIV to use an external monitor, the lines will show in the other monitor?

  • No! I tried that. The external monitor shows no lines. :-/

  • I took my 17" imac to apple store when a line appeared and they fixed it for free! crazy I know, it was out of warranty but all I had to do was ring applecare and they said they would fix it for free.

  • Hi, thanks for the info. I did call up Apple Care but they wouldn't fix it for free. Well, things may have changed so I'll give it a try again. I don't mind being charged, only I want to be sure it'll stay fixed. :-) Take-Care! - Raphae

  • I had to take it to the apple store first and a 'Genius' put a note on my file, then I just said the Genius recommended they fix it for free as this was a problem they didn't want to happen again. I got an asshole on the applecare line but I just hung up and dialed again and got a really good guy who helped me get it for free. Hope you can too dude.

  • It seems to me this is a heating issue which causes the connectors to come loose. Hence explaining the vertical lines and also the erratic behaviour of the lines that appear. Apple is such a great company, I'm sure they'll think of a way to help out their undying fans. :-)

  • Hopefully Apple will solve the problem and recall even the out of warranty ones. :-)
